The training involved running on treadmills (at 5 km/h) to simulate heavy manual labor, and performing heat stress tests (HST) under six different conditions (32 °C/40% RH, 35 °C/40%, 38 °C/40%, 32 °C/70%, 35 °C/70%, and 38 °C/70%). Their physiological indices (rectal temperature, heart rate, sweat loss and skin temperature) and one psychological index (thermal sensation) were measured. Furthermore, a hazard avoidance test device (HATD) was designed to evaluate the individual safety performance by detecting human errors. The results show that training and environmental conditions have different effects on HA. After HA, the physiological and psychological strain were significantly improved. More importantly, HA also helped improve the participants' awareness of the dangers and required emergency responses to face potential hazards. Overall, a reasonable HA training under proper conditions is helpful to ensure the safety of human beings. Embryos were either maintained at control temperatures (3 oC) or exposed to a repeated thermal stress (TS) of 3 or 6 oC above control temperature every 3 or 6 days throughout embryonic development. At 82 days post-fertilisation, repeated TS treatments were stopped and embryos received either a high level TS of 12, 15, or 18 oC above ambient temperature for 1 or 4 h, or no additional TS. These treatments were carried out after a 6 h recovery from the last repeated TS. Embryos in the no repeated TS group responded, as expected, with increases in hsp70 mRNA in response to 12, 15 and 18 oC high-level TS. However, exposure to repeated TS of 3 or 6 ⁰C every 6 days also resulted in a significant upregulation of hsp70 mRNA relative to the controls. Importantly, these repeated TS events and the associated elevations in hsp70 attenuated the upregulation of hsp70 in response to a 1 h, high-level TS of 12 oC above ambient, but not to either longer (4 h) or higher (15 or 18 oC) TS events. Conversely, hsp90α mRNA levels were not consistently elevated in the no repeated TS groups exposed to high-level TS. In some instances, hsp90α levels appeared to decrease in embryos exposed to repeated TS followed by a high-level TS. The relative expression of genes for growth hormone (GH), insulin-like growth factors (IGF-1 and IGF-2) and heat shock proteins (hsp70 and hsp90) were measured by real-time quantitative PCR. The results revealed that the highest acclimation temperature (36 °C) significantly decreased the weight gain (WG) and specific growth rate (SGR), and increased the feed conversion ratio (FCR) compared to 30 °C (control), while increased WG, SGR and lowered FCR were observed in fish reared at the intermediate temperature (33 °C) compared to 30 °C. Similarly, the GH gene expression in the pituitary was significantly decreased and increased at 36 °C and 33 °C, respectively as compared to 30 °C. A significantly lower expression of IGF-1 and IGF-2, and higher expression of hsp70 and hsp90 were observed in the liver of fish at 36 °C. The results of the present study indicate that although slightly elevated temperature promotes the growth of juvenile L. rohita, the higher acclimation temperature may induce stress response and impair growth performance by suppressing GH/IGF system.Heat induced stress associated with dry climatic conditions in the tropics does have adverse effects reproduction in rabbits, and this in-turn impacts negatively on the income of rabbit farmers.
