There were no statistically significant associations overall between moderate or higher (vs. lower) intakes of potatoes and risks of overweight, prehypertension, elevated fasting triglycerides, high TGHDL ratio or IFG. Also, no adverse associations were found between fried or non-fried potato intake and cardiometabolic outcomes. Potato consumption has been the subject of much controversy in recent years. This study adds evidence that potato consumption among healthy girls during the critical period of adolescence was not associated with cardiometabolic risk.We previously developed a malnutrition risk index, the Elderly Nutritional Index for Geriatric Malnutrition Assessment (ENIGMA) with good predictive accuracy for mortality risk in an original population cohort (SLAS1). Herein, we further evaluate the concurrent and predictive validity of the ENIGMA construct in an external validation cohort (SLAS-2) of 2824 community-dwelling older adults aged 55+ years. They were assessed on the ENIGMA index, Mini Nutritional Assessment-Short Form (MNA-SF) and the Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI), known correlates of malnutrition, and baseline and follow-up functional dependency and 10-year mortality risk. Higher ENIGMA risk categories were significantly associated (P less then 0·001) with lower education, living alone, smoking, low physical activity, BMI less then 18·5 kg/m2, poorer muscle strength and functional mobility, exhaustion, physical frailty, homocysteine, glomerular filtration rate, Hb, red and white blood cell counts, platelets, systemic inflammation indexes, metabolic syndrome, CVD, cognitive impairment and depressive symptoms (Geriatric Depression Scale ≥ 5). ENIGMA scores showed statistically significant (P less then 0·001) correlations but low-to-moderate concordance with MNA-SF (r = 0·148, agreement = 45·9 %, kappa = 0·085) and GNRI scores (r = 0·156, agreement = 45·8 %, kappa = 0·096). Controlling for known correlates of malnutrition, only high-risk ENIGMA among the indexes significantly predicted baseline functional dependency (OR = 1·64, 95 % CI 1·01, 2·65) and mortality (hazard ratio = 1·65 (95 % CI 1·04, 2·62). ENIGMA marginally out-performed MNA-SF and GNRI in predicting baseline functional dependency (AUC 0·625 v. 0·584 v. 0·526), follow-up functional dependency (AUC 0·594 v. 0·525 v. 0·479) and 10-year mortality risk (AUC 0·641 v. 0·596 v. 0·595). The concurrent and predictive validity of the ENIGMA construct is replicated in an external evaluation study of community-dwelling older persons.Everolimus combined with exemestane can modulate endocrine resistance. The combination showed significant improvement in progression-free survival (PFS) in phase III clinical trials for hormone receptor positive metastatic breast cancer patients. It also showed serious adverse events. We evaluate the efficacy and prevalence of serious adverse events in a real-world setting. We retrospectively examined 91 breast cancer patients; all were previously treated with chemotherapy and fulvestrant (84% and 59%, respectively). After a 13-month median follow-up, 29% had a partial response, and 32% had stable disease. The PFS was 7.8 months. Due to adverse events, 19% of patients stopped the treatment, while 31% required a dose reduction. Tivozanib in vitro Despite enrolling heavier-pretreated patients, our real-world outcome for the efficacy and safety of the exemestane and everolimus match those of the clinical trials. Such results should assure clinicians and lead to wider adoption of this oral, chemotherapy-sparing regimen.
Forced evictions are common in conflict-affected settings. More than 500 internally displaced persons (IDPs) are evicted daily in Mogadishu. Context specific research is necessary to inform responsive humanitarian interventions and to monitor the effectiveness of these interventions on IDPs health.

This study explored the causes of forced evictions and their health impacts among IDPs in southern Somalia.

We used a qualitative approach, conducting 20 semi-structured interviews, six key informant interviews and four focus group discussions. We used maximum variation sampling to include a wide range of participants and used the framework approach and Nvivo software to analyse the data.

In this context, landlords often rented land without proper tenure agreements, resulting in risk of forced evictions. Informal tenure agreements led to fluctuations in rent, and IDPs were evicted because tenancy laws were inadequate and failed to protect IDP rights. IDP settlements often increased the value of land by cleaemain one of the biggest challenges for IDPs as they exacerbate existing vulnerabilities. Prioritizing implementation of legal protection for IDP tenure rights is necessary to prevent unlawful evictions of IDPs. Humanitarian agencies should aim to respond more effectively to protect evictees and provide support to prevent poor health outcomes. Further quantitative research is needed to further examine the relationship between forced evictions and health outcomes. This study examined an ecological model of sexual satisfaction in midlife women. Participants were 1,411 midlife women who participated in the Midlife in the United States (MIDUS) study. Regression analyses were used to test the hypothesis that an ecological model - including the macrosystem level variable of religiosity, the exosystem level variables of SES, social support, and parenthood, the mesosystem level variables of affectual solidarity, relationship length, and sexual functioning, and the microsystem level variables of age, negative affect, and physical health - would together predict sexual satisfaction. Partial support for an ecological understanding of sexual satisfaction was found.
Problem alcohol use is a risk factor for the development of head and neck cancer (HNC) and continued use is associated with poor outcomes; depressive symptoms may be associated with this behavior.

Exploratory cross-sectional study examined depressive symptoms as a correlate of self-reported problem alcohol use at diagnosis.

Multivariable linear regression examined depressive symptoms as a correlate of problem alcohol use in a sample of rural HNC patients (
 = 249).

Over half (55.2%) of rural patients with potentially problem alcohol use exhibited mild to moderate depressive symptomatology. Regression models controlling for age, cancer site, stage, sex, tobacco use, and treatment modality indicated that depressive symptoms at diagnosis were associated with self-reported problem alcohol use scores at diagnosis (ß = .186, sr
= .031,
< .01). Follow-up subgroup analyses demonstrated that depressive symptoms at diagnosis were significantly associated with self-reported problem alcohol use in male ped disease is also warranted. This article reports on a subset of findings from a recent UK survey of the impact of COVID-19 on older LGBT+ people in the UK. It considers the responses of 149 lesbian/gay women (137 cisgender, 12 trans) to questions relating to physical and mental health and wellbeing. Findings indicate that those women - in couples and singles - who were happy with their living circumstances pre-COVID showed stoicism, adaptability, and determined positivity in response to the pandemic and associated lockdown. Some even reported an improved quality of life, better personal relationships and increased neighborly support. By contrast, those women who were very unhappy with their circumstances prior to COVID-19 - generally women who lived alone and experienced a mismatch between their actual and desired social network - either remained unhappy or became more unhappy, due to its impact on fragile support systems. For trans women, formal support from trans/LGBT+ specific networks - online during COVID lockdown - were central to their wellbeing. Having access to, and being able to use, online technologies were essential to good mental health during lockdown. These findings reaffirm the diversity among older lesbians/gay women as well as highlighting how COVID-19 has acted as a magnifier to their preexisting circumstances. The narratives of those doing well - generally better-networked, intentionally positive and engaged in practices which promote their well-being - may offer insights for supporting those who find their lives more challenging, both during a public health crisis and more generally.ABSTRACTIt is important to distinguish patients in a minimally conscious state (MCS) from patients in a vegetative state (VS) when assessing disorders of consciousness (DOC) as prognosis, selection of therapy, and drug treatment could differ accordingly. Clinical evaluation of a patient's eye movements, such as visual startle, visual fixation, and visual pursuit, provides valuable evidence but is often subject to misdiagnosis. To minimize such misdiagnosis caused by human judgment, a virtual reality (VR) technology-based quantitative assessment method with an eye-tracking system is proposed in this study. The new VR system presented 3 stimuli to 20 healthy participants, and visual response data were recorded to define valid responses to each stimulus. Further, the newly defined stimuli were presented to five chronic patients in VS, and the system classified three of them as showing visual fixations that could not be verified through clinical assessment beforehand. The proposed system, as verified through such experimentation, suggests quantitative and objective evaluation methods for examining three visual functions of patients with DOC.Receiver-operating characteristic curves from confidence ratings and remember/know (R/K) judgments are often used to estimate the contribution of familiarity and recollection to recognition memory. Both coming with specific advantages and disadvantages, which could be reduced by their combination. Little is known how the combination of both methods impacts response behaviour. This could be particularly important for emotional memory research, which is susceptible to variation in meta-mnemonic processes. We obtained reference performance indices from the two methods, instructing individuals to give confidence ratings or R/K judgments in one step. Against these, we contrasted R/K judgments in a two-step format and two combined formats, confidence ratings followed by R/K judgments and vice versa. Regarding reference formats, confidence ratings resulted in more liberal response criteria and false alarm rates than R/K judgments. Two-step R/K judgments and confidence ratings followed by R/K judgments resulted in patterns similar to one-step R/K judgments. Reversing the order resulted in more liberal response biases, higher hit and false alarms rates. Recollection and familiarity were unaffected by response formats. Valence effects did not vary with response formats. The present results suggest that confidence ratings followed by R/K judgments provide the advantages of both without biasing response behaviour. The objectives of this study were to examine cytotoxic and genotoxic damage in human BJ fibroblasts caused by three pesticides used worldwide by trypan blue dye exclusion assays and to measure the relative level of phosphorylated histone H2A.X by flow cytometry at different concentrations. Captan-based fungicide and methyl thiophanate-based fungicide (100 and 1000 µΜ) showed immediate cytotoxic effects; furthermore, after 24 h, captan-based fungicide, chlorothalonil-based fungicide and methyl thiophanate-based fungicide caused cytotoxic effects in the concentration ranges of 40-100 µM, 30-100 µM and 150-1000 µM, respectively. All fungicides generated DNA damage in the treated cells by activating ATM and H2A.X sensor proteins. The three fungicides tested generated DNA double-stranded breaks and showed cytotoxicity at concentrations 33, 34, and 5 times lower (captan, chlorothalonil and thiophanate-methyl respectively) than those used in the field, as recommended by the manufacturers.
