Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common skin disease. At present, there is little evidence regarding its impact on patients' health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in Taiwan. Therefore, this study investigated the relationship between AD severity and patients' HRQoL in Taiwan.

Patients with AD were recruited from three hospitals in Taiwan from April 2018 to April 2019. AD severity was measured using the Scoring of AD (SCORAD) scale, and HRQoL was assessed using the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) and the five-level version of EuroQol five-dimension questionnaire (EQ-5D-5L).

A total of 200 patients (mean age 34.4 years) were recruited, including 103 males and 97 females. They were further classified as 79 mild, 72 moderate, and 58 severe AD patients according to their SCORAD scores. There was a positive correlation between their SCORAD and DLQI scores (Spearman's r=0.77, p<0.001). Patients with severe AD had higher scores in all the DLQI questions, particularly the symptoms, feelings, and work/school. In addition, both the EQ-5D visual analogue scale (VAS) scores and utility index values were negatively correlated with the SCORAD scores (Spearman's r=-0.46 and -0.60, respectively, both p<0.001). Patients with higher AD severity had more problems with mobility, usual activity, pain/discomfort, and anxiety/depression, while demographic characteristics did not significantly affect HRQoL.

Various skeletal and soft tissue abnormalities have been identified in Madelung deformity and have been hypothesized to play a causal role in its progressive symptomatology; however, our pathological understanding of these changes remains limited. In this study, we biomechanically assessed the Madelung deformity wrist, using 4-dimensional computed tomography imaging.

Nine Madelung deformity wrists (5 patients; age, 24 ± 5 y) and 18 healthy wrists (9 volunteers; age, 28 ± 3 y) underwent 4-dimensional imaging during flexion-extension motion and radioulnar deviation. Carpal kinematics and radiocarpal joint parameters were quantified and compared.

In Madelung deformity wrists, significantly decreased rotation was seen in the lunate (-4.6°) and the triquetrum (-4.8°) during flexion-extension motion. During radioulnar deviation, significant decreases were visible in lunate bone translation (-0.7 mm), triquetrum bone translation (-0.6 mm), and triquetrum bone rotation (-1.9°). Patients had significantly decreased articulating surface areas of the scaphoid (1.4 ± 0.2 cm
versus 1.6 ± 0.2 cm
) and lunate (1.2 ± 0.4 cm
versus 1.5 ± 0.3 cm
) fossa, and significantly increased radioscaphoid (1.3 ± 0.1 mm versus 1.2 ± 0.1 mm) and radiolunate (1.6 ± 0.2 mm versus 1.3 ± 0.3 mm) joint space thicknesses.

There is a decreased mobility of the lunate and triquetrum bones in Madelung deformity.

Four-dimensional imaging could be used in future studies that investigate the effect of surgical ligament release on carpal kinematics and subsequent wrist mobility.Human factors account for most reported errors in the serious hazards of blood transfusion report, thus staff training on safe blood transfusion is strongly recommended. This study aimed to assess knowledge of blood transfusion safety among pediatricians and determine the impact of an educational initiative. A quasi-experimental study was conducted on 190 pediatricians. A questionnaire was designed and validated through a pilot study after which all participants were invited to fill it pre- and posteducational intervention. The educational material has been prepared based on the WHO blood transfusion safety guidelines; prepared by the researcher and reviewed by experts in the field. Near miss was identified by 47% of the participants and around 78.3%, 63.2%, and 60% of them correctly identified the indication of red blood cells, fresh frozen plasma, and platelet transfusion. These percentages were significantly improved post education. Only 55% knew that it's not allowed to co-administer drugs or IV fluids with the transfused blood and that rose to almost 80% after intervention. Consent information and correct patient identification were well known among most of them. Only 18.4% knew the pre transfusion screening protocol, which was increased to 85.8 % posteducation. Almost 65.3% correctly responded to the transfusion reaction quiz with no significant change after intervention. Age and work experience were significant independent risk factors for poor knowledge of transfusion safety. Transfusion safety knowledge needs further enhancement with more tailored training programs focusing on the topics that did not show a significant change after our educational training.
To analyze the determinants and severity of perineal pain in the adventures of Tintin and Snowy.

All 23 adventures of Tintin and Snowy (Hergé, Moulinsart Ed.) were reviewed in order to determine the presence, causes and severity of perineal pain (PP) observed in the various heroes of this comic book. Several parameters were studied the cause which could be either accidental or voluntary; the type of patient (good guys-bad guys); the hero concerned (Tintin, Captain Haddock, Thompson and Thomson, Snowy, Professor Calculus …); the duration of the pain (by the number of boxes where the subject was represented suffering from such pains); finally, the severity of these pains, by the number of stars or signs designating the region and stereotyping the importance of the pain. The Student and Chi
tests were used to analyze these different qualitative and quantitative variables.

Five hundred and one traumas were found in the adventures of Tintin and Snowy, including 47 PP, 9.4% of cases compared to 299 head traearer for cephalic trauma (r
=0.1436) than for PP (r
=0.2189).

The frequency of traumatic PP in Tintin's adventures is important and is second only to head injuries. This frequency of PP traumas is undoubtedly linked to the hectic and adventurous life of Tintin and his acolytes exposed in all circumstances to all kinds of direct or indirect injuries. Future studies will have to specify the risk of after-effects and the psychological impact of PPs on the heroes concerned.

This aim of this study was to provide a comprehensive understanding of the clinical characteristics, treatment, and prognosis of patients with small bowel adenocarcinoma (SBA), mucinous small bowel adenocarcinoma (MSBA), and signet ring cell carcinoma of the small bowel (SRCSB).

Information on patients with SBA, MSBA, and SRCSB (2004-2015) was obtained from the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database. Cox proportional hazards models and Kaplan-Meier curves were used for the survival analyses. Propensity-score matching (PSM) was implemented to determine the differences among these tumors.

In all, 3697 patients with SBA (n=3196), MSBA (n=325) and SRCSB (n=176) were ultimately eligible for this study. Poor differentiation, local invasion, and lymph node metastasis were more likely to be observed in SRCSB than in SBA and MSBA. Surgery was the most common treatment modality in all groups. The prognosis of SBA was similar to that of MSBA, but better than that of SRCSB in both unmatched and matched cohorts. M stage, surgery, and chemotherapy were identified as independent predictors of survival in all patients. Surgery and chemotherapy could significantly improve outcomes in all groups before and after PSM. Radiotherapy was associated with a survival benefit in patients with SBA, but this trend was not maintained after PSM. Survival advantages of SBA and MSBA were remarkable in the stratified analysis of surgery after PSM.

The incidence and patterns of local recurrence of colon cancer are not well reported. The aim of this study was to investigate the contemporary rates and patterns of local recurrence after sigmoid cancer resection, comparing pre and post-operative biomarkers in predicting local disease recurrence.

A multi-centre, retrospective analysis of 414 patients undergoing resectional surgery for sigmoid colon cancer was conducted. Multivariable Cox Proportional Hazard models were created to identify variables associated with local disease recurrence. PIK-III Patterns of recurrence and prognostic significance of pre and post-operative variables were identified.

In 414 patients, the local recurrence rate was 12.6%. The R1/R2 rate was 2.4%. Local recurrence occurred most commonly within the peri-anastomotic region (50%), followed by the peritoneum (33%). On multivariate analysis, local recurrence was predicted by pathological T stage (HR 1.15) and R1 resection (HR 2.95), but also computerised tomography (CT) identified tumour deposits (HR 2.40) and local peritoneal infiltration (2.70).

Different material options are available for fixed dental prostheses (FDPs), but valid data on the favored materials of German dentists for 3-unit FDPs are lacking. It is unclear whether preferences depend on the individual characteristics of the dentists or their dental practices.

The purpose of this survey was to identify the preferred material selection of German dentists for the fabrication of tooth-supported 3-unit FDPs depending on the location of the abutment teeth and the individual characteristics of the dentist or the dental practice.

A survey was developed that included questions on the demographic characteristics (sex, area of expertise, age group, time since graduation, number of inhabitants, and the postal code of the dental practice or dental school) of the participating dentist and their preferred materials for the fabrication of tooth-supported 3-unit FDPs. Three clinical scenarios (anterior maxillary FDP, posterior maxillary FDP, posterior mandibular FDP) were presented. The dentists were allowed to select from predefined options or to give a free answer.
