We describe the efficacy of lateral transorbital canthopexy using a silicone tube in managing severe paralytic ectropion.

Patients with paralytic ectropion involving at least two-third of lower eyelid length and scleral exposure of 3 mm or more were considered. A silicone prosthetic was inserted during canthopexy.

Lateral transorbital canthopexy using a silicone tube was performed on 10 eyelids in nine patients. All patients had corneal surface abnormalities. Scleral exposure resolved completely in three cases. At 8-month follow-up, residual scleral exposure of 1 mm and 2 mm persisted in

 = 1 cases, respectively.

To investigate the effect of chronic smoking on the macula and optic nerve integrity using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA).

This prospective, comparative study involved the right eyes of 160 healthy subjects (80 smokers group, and 80 control group). OCTA scanning was performed for all subjects. All macular subfields thickness, peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness, macular ganglion cell complex (GCC) thickness, superficial and deep macular vessel density, foveal avascular zone (FAZ) area, and the macular outer retina flow area, were measured and analyzed.

Autistic transition age youth struggle with obtaining employment, and interviewing is a critical barrier to getting a job. We adapted an efficacious virtual reality job interview intervention to meet the needs of autistic transition age youth, called the Virtual Interview Training for Transition Age Youth. This study evaluated whether Virtual Interview Training for Transition Age Youth can be feasibly delivered in high school special education settings and whether Virtual Interview Training for Transition Age Youth improves job interview skills, job interview self-efficacy, job interview anxiety, and access to employment. Forty-eight autistic transition age youth received school-based pre-employment services as usual with Virtual Interview Training for Transition Age Youth, while 23 autistic transition age youth received services as usual only. Local teachers trained and supervised autistic transition age youth using Virtual Interview Training for Transition Age Youth. Participants reported Virtual Intervieview Training for Transition Age Youth, compared to participants receiving services as usual only, had better job interview skills and lower job interview anxiety as well as greater access to jobs. Overall, Virtual Interview Training for Transition Age Youth appears to be effective at teaching job interview skills that are associated with accessing competitive jobs. We interviewed combatants in South Kivu in eastern DRC about their experiences with sexual violence, what they think causes it, and how it might be mitigated. Although respondents in this study strongly believe that sexual violence is a serious crime and an immoral act which should be avoided in their ranks, they sometimes perpetrate it systematically, suggesting a disconnect between their good soldiering ideals and own actions. Combatants report that they want to protect women and men in armed conflicts, but the contexts in which they operate lead them, contrary to their wishes, to behave violently against the civilians they are supposed to protect. To mitigate sexual violence in armed conflicts they propose improving their socioeconomic conditions, getting rid of militias and uniting the Congolese army, punishing perpetrators and adequately training new soldiers joining the united army.Meralgia paresthetica (MP) is a painful mononeuropathy that causes paresthesia, tingling, stinging or a burning sensation in the thigh's anterolateral part due to the entrapment of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve under the inguinal ligament. The treatment options for MP include conservative or interventional management and must follow an algorithm. The objective is to eliminate the underlying cause if known. In the present study, four patients with MP who were successfully treated with either conservative or interventional management are presented. The advantages and disadvantages of neurolysis (decompression and transposition) and neurectomy procedures for surgical treatments are discussed.
