Resveratrol (RES) is a polyphenol with increasing interest for its inhibitory effects on a wide variety of viruses. Zika virus (ZIKV) is an arbovirus which causes a broad spectrum of ophthalmological manifestations in humans. Currently there is no certified therapy or vaccine to treat it, thus it has become a major global health threat. Retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) is highly permissive and susceptible to ZIKV. This work explored the protective effects of RES on ZIKV-infected human RPE cells. RES treatment resulted in a significant reduction of infectious viral particles in infected male ARPE-19 and female hTERT-RPE1 cells. This protection was positively influenced by the action of RES on mitochondrial dynamics. Also, docking studies predicted that RES has a high affinity for two enzymes of the rate-limiting steps of pyrimidine and purine biosynthesis and viral polymerase. This evidence suggests that RES might be a potential antiviral agent to treat ZIKV-induced ocular abnormalities.
Colon cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide. The increased incidence of comorbid diseases in elderly patients above 70 leads to the need of less aggressive strategies to be used in the adjuvant setting of stage III colon cancer.

Our prospective cohort study was performed in the period from April 2017 to March 2020. Seventy-five patients with newly diagnosed stage III colon cancer received adjuvant chemotherapy after surgery. Patients who either received adjuvant chemotherapy less than 3months due to intolerability or toxicity from medications or who have more than one type of cancers or metastatic disease from the start were excluded from the study. Patients' clinicopathological characteristics in relation to oxaliplatin- and non-oxaliplatin-based chemotherapeutic regimens were analyzed with survival assessment.

In our study, patients above 70 had better overall survival (OS) in the non-oxaliplatin chemotherapy group (p-value = 0.032) in contrast to OS in patients under reatment option in the adjuvant management of stage III colon cancer patients in all age groups. The benefit of non-oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy was limited to patients above 70 which might be an effective option for elderly patients.
The appropriate selection of a personalized strategy for treatment of stage III colon cancer plays an important role in the outcome of the disease. Renal denervation (RDN) has been demonstrated as a potential therapy for treatment of hypertension; however, lack of indicators of intra-/post-procedure results in inconsistent clinical outcomes. Renal nerve stimulation (RNS), a simple and promising method, could evoke elevated blood pressure as an intraoperative indicator for RDN. But related researches on patterns of blood pressure responses to RNS are still incomplete. To investigate and categorize the phenotypes of blood pressure response to RNS and heart rate alteration before and after RNS, 24 Chinese Kunming dogs were used to perform RNS from bifurcation to ostium of renal arteries after angiography, and a total of 483 stimulated sites were complete. We identified five different patterns of blood pressure response to RNS in 483 stimulated sites, (1) continuous ascending and finally keeping steady above baseline (26.9%), (2) declining and then rising over baseline (11.8%), (3) declining and then rising but below baseline (14.5%), (4) fluctuating in the vicinity of baseline (39.5%), and (5) continuous declining and finally keeping steady below baseline (7.2%), and found no difference in RR intervals among five blood pressure responses before and after renal nerve stimulation. Renal nerve stimulation could elicit different patterns of blood pressure response, which could potentially assist in distinguishing sympathetic-excitatory sites and sympathetic-inhibitory sites from mixed nerve components, which might help to improve the efficacy of RDN.We evaluated the real-time diagnostic capability of a new tool enhancing early diagnosis of pump thrombosis (PT) of the HeartWare left ventricular assist device via time-frequency analysis (TFA) of the log files. We analyzed 173 log files, including 24 (14%) associated with a clinical diagnosis of PT and 149 (86%) controls. The 30-day log file records were discretized into consecutive windows of a 24-h duration, which were iteratively acquired and processed via TFA. This way, we simulated longitudinal acquisition of pump parameters and provided real-time analysis of consecutive data, thus resembling the clinical scenario. Sensitivity and specificity of the tool were 79% and 84%, respectively. Sensitivity against PT events with progressive "build-up" thrombus increased up to 95%, and early signs of a forthcoming PT were identified 10±8 days prior to its clinical manifestation. This study demonstrates high reliability and the potential for effective clinical translation of this prognostic tool.
