In regenerative medicine, the problem of growing mesenchymal stem cells from the bone marrow often arises. In such cases is important that the number of initial cells was large enough and their proliferative activity was high. We believe that this problem can be solved by short-term heating of local areas of the bone marrow in vivo with laser radiation. In this regard, it is of interest to study the optical and temperature fields induced inside the tubular bone under external laser irradiation. In this work, we obtained experimental data on the spatial distribution of temperature in the bone marrow of the rat femur in vitro under external exposure to laser radiation with wavelengths of 970 and 1940 nm. Radiation delivery was carried out using an optical fiber which tip contacted the surface of the femur bone. A thin thermocouple was used to measure the temperature in a local area of the bone marrow. By moving the optical fiber tip discretely along the longitudinal axis of the bone, and the thermocouple in the perpendicular direction, the spatial temperature distributions in dynamics were measured. Similarly, the spatial distributions of the laser radiation intensity were measured by replacing thermocouple with optical fiber probe. A thermal camera was used to control the temperature of the bone surface near the tip of the fiber. It was shown that the marrow could be heated from the outside by about 5-10 °C during 10 s without significant overheating of the bone tissue. The data obtained make it possible to estimate the volume of the bone marrow heated by the laser to a predetermined temperature and to make a reasonable choice of laser exposure modes to stimulate the proliferative activity of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells in vivo.Neurons are susceptible to different cellular stresses and this vulnerability has been implicated in the pathogenesis of Huntington's disease (HD). Accumulating evidence suggest that acute or chronic stress, depending on its duration and severity, can cause irreversible cellular damages to HD neurons, which contributes to neurodegeneration. In contrast, how normal and HD neurons respond during the resolution of a cellular stress remain less explored. In this study, we challenged normal and HD cells with a low-level acute ER stress and examined the molecular and cellular responses after stress removal. Using both striatal cell lines and primary neurons, we first showed the temporal activation of p-eIF2α-ATF4-GADD34 pathway in response to the acute ER stress and during recovery between normal and HD cells. HD cells were more vulnerable to cell death during stress recovery and were associated with increased number of apoptotic/necrotic cells and decreased cell proliferation. This is also supported by the Gene Ontology analysis from the RNA-seq data which indicated that "apoptosis-related Biological Processes" were more enriched in HD cells during stress recovery. We further showed that HD cells were defective in restoring global protein synthesis during stress recovery and promoting protein synthesis by an integrated stress response inhibitor, ISRIB, could attenuate cell death in HD cells. Together, these data suggest that normal and HD cells undergo distinct mechanisms of transcriptional reprogramming, leading to different cell fate decisions during the stress recovery.
Pancreaticoduodenal artery aneurysms (PDAAs) are rare visceral aneurysms, and prompt intervention/treatment of all PDAAs is recommended at the time of diagnosis to avoid rupture of aneurysms. Herein, we report two cases of PDAA caused by the median arcuate ligament syndrome, treated with surgical revascularization by aortosplenic bypass followed by coil embolization.
Case 1 A 54-year-old woman presented with a chief complaint of severe epigastralgia and was diagnosed with two large fusiform inferior PDAAs and celiac axis occlusion. To preserve the blood flow of the pancreatic head, duodenum, liver, and spleen, we performed elective surgery to release the MAL along with aortosplenic bypass. At 6days postoperatively, transcatheter arterial embolization was performed. At the 8-year 6-month follow-up observation, no recurrent perfusion of the embolized PDAAs or rupture had occurred, including the non-embolized small PDAA, and the bypass graft had excellent patency. Case 2 A 39-year-old man who had been in good health was found to have a PDAA with celiac stenosis during a medical checkup. Computed tomography and superior mesenteric arteriography showed severe celiac axis stenosis and a markedly dilated pancreatic arcade with a large saccular PDAA. To preserve the blood flow of the pancreatic arcade, we performed elective surgery to release the MAL along with aortosplenic bypass. At 9days postoperatively, transcatheter arterial embolization was performed. At the 6-year 7-month follow-up observation, no recurrent perfusion or rupture of the PDAA had occurred, and the bypass graft had excellent patency.

Combined treatment with bypass surgery and coil embolization can be an effective option for the treatment of PDAAs associated with celiac axis occlusion or severe stenosis.High-mobility Ge nMOSFETs with ZrO2 gate dielectric are demonstrated and compared against transistors with different interfacial properties of ozone (O3) treatment, O3 post-treatment and without O3 treatment. It is found that with O3 treatment, the Ge nMOSFETs with ZrO2 dielectric having a EOT of 0.83 nm obtain a peak effective electron mobility (μeff) of 682 cm2/Vs, which is higher than that of the Si universal mobility at the medium inversion charge density (Qinv). On the other hand, the O3 post-treatment with Al2O3 interfacial layer can provide dramatically enhanced-μeff, achieving about 50% μeff improvement as compared to the Si universal mobility at medium Qinv of 5 × 1012 cm-2. These results indicate the potential utilization of ZrO2 dielectric in high-performance Ge nMOSFETs.
This study aims to evaluate data quality, scaling properties, and reliability of the Swedish RAND-36 in a general population sample and to present reference data for the Swedish population.
Testing of data quality, scaling assumptions and reliability followed methods recommended for the International Quality of Life Assessment Project, previously used for psychometric testing of SF-36 and RAND-36. Data were collected via regular mail for a random stratified sample of the general population in a Swedish county. Weighted means for RAND-36 scores were used and differences by sex, age, education, and occupational groups were tested.
The response rate was 42%, and the sample comprised 3432 persons (45% men, 55% women) with a median age of 56.9 years. The internal consistency reliability was satisfactory, with Cronbach's alphas > 0.80 for all eight scales. The percentage of missing items was low, ranging between 1.3% and 3.2%. No floor effects (≥15%) were noted, while ceiling effects were observed for physd to those with mandatory education.
The study suggests that the Swedish version of RAND-36 is an acceptable and reliable instrument for measuring HRQoL in the general population. The study provides reference data that can be used for norm-based comparisons.

The study provides reference data that can be used for norm-based comparisons.We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis for the effectiveness of Favipiravir on the fatality and the requirement of mechanical ventilation for the treatment of moderate to severe COVID-19 patients. We searched available literature and reported it by using PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines. Until June 1, 2021, we searched PubMed, bioRxiv, medRxiv, ClinicalTrials.gov, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), and Google Scholar by using the keywords "Favipiravir" and terms synonymous with COVID-19. Studies for Favipiravir treatment compared to standard of care among moderate and severe COVID-19 patients were included. Risk of bias assessment was performed using Revised Cochrane risk of bias tool for randomized trials (RoB 2) and ROBINS-I assessment tool for non-randomized studies. We defined the outcome measures as fatality and requirement for mechanical ventilation. A total of 2702 studies were identified and 12 clinical trials with 1636 patients were analyzed. Nine out of 12 studies were randomized controlled trials. Among the randomized studies, one study has low risk of bias, six studies have moderate risk of bias, and 2 studies have high risk of bias. Observational studies were identified as having moderate risk of bias and non-randomized study was found to have serious risk of bias. Our meta-analysis did not reveal any significant difference between the intervention and the comparator on fatality rate (OR 1.11, 95% CI 0.64-1.94) and mechanical ventilation requirement (OR 0.50, 95% CI 0.13-1.95). There is no significant difference in fatality rate and mechanical ventilation requirement between Favipiravir treatment and the standard of care in moderate and severe COVID-19 patients.Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, other respiratory illnesses decreased worldwide. This study described the consequences of public health measures on respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) severe infections in France, where an interseasonal resurgence of RSV occurred recently. buy RRx-001 All patients admitted to Necker Hospital (Paris) between August 2018 and April 2021 with a diagnosis of RSV-associated acute lung respiratory infection (ALRI) were enrolled. Characteristics of subjects with RSV-associated ALRI in 2020/2021 were compared to those infected during the two previous outbreaks. Overall, 664 inpatients were diagnosed with RSV-associated ALRI 229, 183, and 252 during the 2018/2019, 2019/2020, and 2020/2021 outbreaks, respectively. During autumn 2020, a national lockdown began in France but schools remained open. A 3-month delayed RSV epidemic occurred at the end of this lockdown. Compared to previous outbreaks, the 2020/2021 epidemics involved more children aged 6 to 11 months (25.8% versus 13.1%, p less then 0.0001), but less infants aged less then 6 months (41.3% versus 56.6%, p less then 0.0001) and less adults (0.0 versus 2.7%, p less then 0.0001). Shorter length of stay at hospital, less frequent requirement of admission to intensive care unit, use of non-invasive ventilation, and/or high-flow nasal oxygen were observed in 2020/2021 than during previous epidemics (p less then 0.0001). Delayed RSV outbreak was associated with more hospitalizations for ALRI, higher age of pediatric inpatients, but milder median clinical phenotype. Reinforced public health measures (even while keeping nurseries and schools open with mandatory face masks since six years of age) could impact, at least transiently, the burden of RSV-related hospitalizations.Evolutionarily, polyploidy represents a smart method for adjusting agronomically important in crops through impacts on genomic abundance and chromatin condensation. Autopolyploids have a relatively concise genetic background with great diversity and provide an ideal system to understand genetic and epigenetic mechanisms attributed to the genome-dosage effect. However, whether and how genome duplication events during autopolyploidization impact chromatin signatures are less understood in crops. To address it, we generated an autotetraploid rice line from a diploid progenitor, Oryza sativa ssp. indica 93-11. Using transposase-accessible chromatin sequencing, we found that autopolyploids lead to a higher number of accessible chromatin regions (ACRs) in euchromatin, most of which encode protein-coding genes. As expected, the profiling of ACR densities supported that the effect of ACRs on transcriptional gene activities relies on their positions in the rice genome, regardless of genome doubling. However, we noticed that genome duplication favors genic ACRs as the main drivers of transcriptional changes.
