Coronary artery revascularizations and psychological drop : A planned out evaluation.
Results Residents all agreed that the four cases were realistic. All but two residents agreed that OSCEs like this one are an appropriate or objective way of assessing the ACGME professionalism milestones. All preceptors reported that they strongly agreed the assessment improved their ability to assess the professionalism milestones. Colcemid Discussion This OSCE offers a structured method to assess professionalism milestones and a forum to discuss ethical problem solving. It can also be used solely as a training exercise in ethical decision making and having difficult conversations. Use of the familiar SOAP diagnostic framework can ensure that faculty develop a thorough differential diagnosis and target their interventions to address underlying issues affecting learner success. Methods We developed a workshop to teach medical education faculty essential skills for supporting learners in difficulty. Teaching methods included didactic presentation, large-group discussion, and small-group work with role-plays. Over three 2-hour sessions, participants learned to assess a learner in difficulty, develop an initial remediation plan, and evaluate their learning system with the goal of improving support to learners in difficulty. Evaluation included pre- and postsession assessment of learner self-perceived confidence and skill with working with struggling learners, as well as brief postsession evaluation. Results Ninety-nine faculty participated in the Learners in Difficulty workshop over 7 years. Participants' overall rating of the workshop was 4.9 (1 = poor, 5 = outstanding). Pre- and postworkshop evaluation showed a statistically significant increase in perceived self-confidence to "Meet the needs of a struggling learner," from an average of 4.4 to 7.6 on a 10-point scale (mean Δ = 3.2; 95% confidence interval, 2.6-3.8; p less then .001). Discussion This workshop provides a stepwise approach to working with learners in difficulty and assessing participants' educational systems to identify strengths and weaknesses. Evaluations indicated participants felt more confident in their ability to engage in this topic following completion of the workshop. The fat content and the fillet yield are important parameters in the marketing of carp. Although the influence of the environment on the body composition of the carp has been well studied, there is little research in the field of breeding. For this purpose, precise phenotyping is indispensable. Therefore, during this study a total of 33 mirror carps were examined using computed tomography (CT) technology. First, the fish were examined alive. Total body weight and linear measurements such as lengths, height and circumferences were measured, and ultrasound was used to determine the back-fat thickness. The fish were then slaughtered and whole body scans of all fish using CT were made. The carps were filleted and the fillets with skin were chemically analyzed. In order to predict the chemical fillet fat content, thickness measurements and volume calculations of the back fat were carried osurements. Revealing the composition feature of AT depots will provide valuable information for further research on the development and fat deposition patterns in buffalo. This study explored the cellular morphology and gene expression profiles of brown and beige markers in seven AT depots of fattened buffalo three subcutaneous depots (back, sternum, and inguinal) and four visceral depots (perirenal, mesenteric, pericardial, and omental). Histological results showed unilocular adipocytes in all seven AT depots. Uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) mRNA, a brown and beige adipocyte gene, was detected in all depots with the highest level in VAT depots, and a limited number of UCP1-positive unilocular adipocytes were observed in the three VAT depots. The mRNAs of PPARG coactivator 1 alpha (PGC1 α ) and transmembrane protein 26 (TMEM26), brown or beige adipocyte markers, were identified in all seven depots and were mainly expressed in VAT depots. However, the mRNA of zinc finger protein of the cerebellum 1 (ZIC1), a brown adipocyte-specific marker, was almost undetectable. Our results demonstrated that all seven AT depots are white adipose tissue (WAT), with potential function of non-shivering thermogenesis in fattened buffalo. Beige adipocytes are more active in VAT depots than in WAT depots. These results improve our knowledge on the feature of different adipose tissue depots in buffalo, which will be useful for the research of fat deposition. The preference of the breeders for local breeds is due to their higher adaptability to the particular climate and relief conditions of the mountain areas, to the high rate of assimilation of the feeds from these regions and to their increased resistance to diseases. This study analyzes the genetic variation of the main four local Romanian sheep breeds (Tsurcana, Tsigai, Ratska and Teleorman Blackhead) in terms of stock and economic importance, using 18 microsatellite markers. The mean number of alleles per locus was of 9.764. The values of genetic diversity parameters exhibited a high degree of polymorphism for the analyzed breeds, although inbreeding was highlighted particularly in Tsurcana and Tsigai. These breeds also showed an intense gene flow among them and were less differentiated in comparison with Ratska and Teleorman Blackhead. The results of this study may be useful for breeding programs and conservation plans since the genetic resources of the local breeds must be preserved so as to maintain an adequate level of biodiversity in animal husbandry.
