HO-PSNC-20 exhibited a significant promotion in nerve regeneration and functional reconstruction compari. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd.In this study, we aimed to prepare and characterize porous scaffolds composed of pure and boron oxide (B2O3) doped bioactive glass (BG) that were infiltrated by cellulose acetate-gelatin (CA-GE) polymer solution for bone tissue engineering applications. Composite scaffolds were cross-linked with glutaraldehyde (GTA) after polymer coating to protect the structural integrity of the polymeric coated scaffolds. The impact of B2O3 incorporation into BG-polymer porous scaffolds on cross-sectional morphology, porosity, mechanical properties, degradation, and bioactivity of the scaffolds was investigated. Human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs) were enzymatically isolated and used for cell culture studies. According to scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis, porous structure of the scaffolds was preserved after polymer coating. After polymer infiltration, porosity of the scaffolds decreased from 64.2% to 59.35% for pure BG scaffolds and from 67.3% to 58.9% for B2O3 doped scaffolds, meanwhile their compressive strengths increased from 0.13 MPa to 0.57 MPa and from 0.20 MPa to 0.82 MPa, respectively. After polymer infiltration, 7% B2O3 incorporated BG scaffolds had higher weight loss and Ca-P layer deposition than pure BG scaffolds, after 14 days of incubation in stimulated body fluid (SBF) at 37oC. Higher attachment and proliferation of hDPSCs were observed on 7% B2O3-BG-CA/GE scaffolds. Additionally, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity of the cells was about 1.25 fold higher in this group than that observed on BG-CA/GE scaffolds after 14 days of incubation in osteogenic medium, while their intracellular calcium amounts were 1.7 fold higher than observed on BG-CA/GE after 7 days of incubation in osteogenic medium. Our results suggested that porous cellulose acetate-gelatin coated boron-bioactive glass scaffolds hold promise for bone tissue engineering applications. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd.BACKGROUND Parkinson disease monitoring is currently transitioning from periodic clinical assessments to continuous daily life monitoring in free-living conditions. Traditional Parkinson disease monitoring methods lack intraday fluctuation detection. Electronic diaries (eDiaries) hold the potential to collect subjective experiences on the severity and burden of motor and nonmotor symptoms in free-living conditions. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to develop a Parkinson disease-specific eDiary based on ecological momentary assessments (EMAs) and to explore its validation. METHODS An observational cohort of 20 patients with Parkinson disease used the smartphone-based EMA eDiary for 14 consecutive days without adjusting free-living routines. The eDiary app presented an identical questionnaire consisting of questions regarding affect, context, motor and nonmotor symptoms, and motor performance 7 times daily at semirandomized moments. However, the widescale adoption of these solutions is lagging behind. The most adverse scenarios often provide an opportunity to develop and test the capacity of digital health technologies to increase the efficiency of health care systems. Catalonia (Northeast Spain) is one of the most advanced regions in terms of digital health adoption across Europe. The region has a long tradition of health information exchange in the public health care sector and is currently implementing an ambitious digital health strategy. In this viewpoint, we discuss the crucial role digital health solutions play during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic to support public health policies. In this research, the effect of hydraulic retention time (HRT), and scale-up on the performance of a novel expandable modular design of single-chamber MFC (SCMFC) has been investigated. In the first part of the paper, the effect of HRT on chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal and electricity generation was examined. The generated steady open-circuit voltage (OCV) was 785 mV at HRT 90 h, and the provided maximum power density (PD) was 113 mW/m2 at HRT 15 h. At HRT of 45 h, COD removal increased up to 87% via an increase in the HRT. In the second part, the scale-up of SCMFC was investigated by serial (SFC) or parallel (PFC) connecting the outlets and inlets of fluid flows. The average produced OCV was 760 mV in PFC mode, and average produced PD in PFC and SFC modes were 97 and 75.6 mW/m2, respectively. COD removal in SFC and PFC modes were reported to be 89 and 42%, respectively. Compared to PFC mode, SFC mode was more efficient in terms of COD removal and coulombic efficiency. However, it produced lower PD compared to PFC mode. It is possible to control the quality and capacity of wastewater treatment by using combining the SFC and PFC mode connections in packages of MFCs. OBJECTIVE To consider the association of injuries with transition periods in the dance year, i.e., when dancers return at the start of the year, and when they transition from rehearsal to performance periods. METHODS Six electronic databases were searched to November 2019. All English language peer-reviewed studies, of any study design investigating ballet and contemporary pre-professional and professional dance populations were included. Only those studies reporting on the timing of injury were included. RESULTS Fifteen cohort and two case-series studies were included. link3 A meta-analysis of seven studies revealed the rate of injuries to be significantly higher for the second and third months (1.52; 95% confidence interval [CI]1.11-2.08; 1.26; 95%CI1.07-1.48 respectively) after the return to dance. Two further studies report more injuries up to Week 13 of the year. One study showed an increase in injured dancers at three and four weeks after transition from rehearsals to a performance season. Four studies show an increase in injuries at performance times. CONCLUSIONS Meta-analyses of seven studies shows the second and third months after returning to dance have a significantly higher rate of injuries. More research is needed to quantify training loads in dance. Practitioners should be cognisant of the higher injury rates during periods of transition and consider modifying load, as it is a potential contributing factor. OBJECTIVES In patients with advanced oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), surgical treatment is often administered in combination with radiotherapy-based postoperative adjuvant therapy. The aim of the present study was to determine the most appropriate dose by comparing patient outcomes between doses of 50- and 66-Gy for postoperative cervical irradiation. MATERIALS AND METHODS This retrospective study included patients who underwent postoperative cervical irradiation following neck dissection for OSCC with lymph nodes metastases, and their primary lesions were controlled. They were divided into the 50- and 66-Gy irradiation groups and were examined for sex, age, primary lesion site, tumor/node/metastasis stage, initial treatment for primary cancer, neck dissection procedure, number of metastatic lymph nodes, presence or absence of extranodal extension (ENE), concomitant anticancer agents, and therapeutic outcomes. RESULTS A total of 78 patients met the clinical criteria for study enrollment. The 50- and 66-Gy postoperative cervical irradiation groups included 40 and 38 patients, with neck dissection performed at 45 and 38 sites, respectively. Cervical control rate was 97.5% and 97.3% in the 50- and 66-Gy irradiation groups (p = 0.74). The cumulative disease-specific 5-year survival rate was 85.6% and 88.3%, respectively, with no significant difference (p = 0.64). CONCLUSION The findings of our study indicate that the irradiation dose of 50 Gy is appropriate for postoperative cervical irradiation in patients with OSCC. A left ventricular accessory chamber is a complex and uncommon phenotype consisting in a subdivision of the left ventricle by a thick-walled muscle bundle or septum into two cavities. Multiple aetiologies such as congenital double-chambered left ventricle and acquired endomyocardial form of restrictive cardiomyopathy have been reported. The endomyocardial form of restrictive cardiomyopathy, owing to its structural heterogeneity, can present a similar phenotype to the congenital abnormality with intraventricular lesions bridging the ventricular septum and left ventricular free wall. Conventional echocardiography is the first-line, accepted, non-invasive imaging modality to investigate underlying cardiac disease but presents limitations for the overall assessment of myocardial tissue. This report describes the use of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging as an additional imaging modality to provide multiplanar morphological, structural, and functional information of the myocardium. In the presented images, hyperintensities on cardiac magnetic resonance imaging within the myocardium along with hyperechoic and heterogeneous myocardial tissue on echocardiography and elevated troponin I were suggestive of a presumptive acquired pathological process such as feline endomyocarditis-left ventricular endomyocardial fibrosis complex, rather than a sole congenital anomaly. Although the diagnosis was not confirmed, this case exemplifies the advantages of using complementary multimodality imaging in a cat presented with a left ventricular accessory chamber. A seven-year-old, spayed female, domestic longhair cat was referred for management of a sudden aortic thromboembolism (ATE). Echocardiography showed hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with severe left atrial enlargement. Ultrasonography of the abdominal aorta confirmed a large thrombus at the level of the aortic trifurcation, involving both iliac arteries. Considering the recent onset and bilateral involvement of the iliac arteries, the cat underwent emergent surgical embolectomy (SE) of the aortoiliac embolus. A standard caudal celiotomy was performed and the abdominal aorta was identified. Vessel loops with tourniquets were placed around the abdominal aorta proximal to the thrombus and on both iliac arteries distal to the thrombus. A full-thickness incision was made in the ventral surface of the aorta. The aortic thromboembolus was removed. The trifurcation was subsequently flushed with sterile saline. The SE resulted in a good outcome, with both clinical and ultrasound signs of complete reperfusion of the rear limbs within a few hours.
