Saturated riparian buffers (SRBs) reduce nitrate export from agricultural tile drainage by infusing drainage water into carbon-rich riparian soils where denitrification and plant uptake occur. The water quality benefits from SRBs are well documented, but uncertainties about their effect on streambank stability have led to design standards that limit the maximum bank height and minimum buffer width, thus reducing the number of suitable candidate sites. In this study, the relationship between SRB design and streambank stability was examined through numerical slope stability modeling and validated using field sites. At the study sites, the addition of SRB flow increased the probability of failure by less than 3% for both simulated dry and rainfall scenarios. Furthermore, the simulations provide no evidence to support excluding potential sites based on bank height alone. Multivariate analysis of dimensionless parameters developed for SRB flow conditions was used to predict the factor of safety as a function of the SRB site and design conditions. The equation presented allows designers to assess the stability of a potential site where bank failure poses a heightened risk. The results of this study alleviate the need for extensive geotechnical evaluations at future SRB sites and could increase SRB implementation by expanding the range of eligible sites.

The developed Z eff engine in the 3DQI software facilitated accurate and efficient Z eff estimate for various DECT applications.Xanthones are compounds with a diphenyl ether skeleton mainly found in plants and often glycosylated at carbon atoms. Although many C-glycosyltransferases (CGTs) participating in flavone C-glycosylation have been identified, MiCGT from Mangifera indica, adding sugar to an open-chain benzophenone skeleton, is the only identified xanthone biosynthesis-related CGT. Here, we identified two CGTs from Hypericum perforatum that add sugar to the closed-ring xanthone, but not benzophenone. These CGTs catalyze sugar transfer to the C-4 position of norathyriol (1,3,6,7-tetrahydroxyxanthone) to form isomangiferin (1,3,6,7-tetrahydroxyxanthone 4-C-glucoside), a major xanthone C-glucoside. This is the first study to report CGTs that mediate the direct C-glycosylation of xanthone.Inflammation after injury of the central nervous system (CNS) is increasingly viewed as a therapeutic target. However, comparative studies in different CNS compartments are sparse. To date only few studies based on immunohistochemical data and all referring to mechanical injury have directly compared inflammation in different CNS compartments. These studies revealed that inflammation is more pronounced in spinal cord than in brain. Therefore, it is unclear whether concepts and treatments established in the cerebral cortex can be transferred to spinal cord lesions and vice versa or whether immunological treatments must be adapted to different CNS compartments. By use of transcriptomic and flow cytometry analysis of equally sized photothrombotically induced lesions in the cerebral cortex and the spinal cord, we could document an overall comparable inflammatory reaction and repair activity in brain and spinal cord between day 1 and day 7 after ischemia. However, remyelination was increased after cerebral versus spinal cord ischemia which is in line with increased remyelination in gray matter in previous analyses and was accompanied by microglia dominated inflammation opposed to monocytes/macrophages dominated inflammation after spinal cord ischemia. Interestingly remyelination could be reduced by microglia and not hematogenous macrophage depletion. Our results show that despite different cellular composition of the postischemic infiltrate the inflammatory response in cerebral cortex and spinal cord are comparable between day 1 and day 7. A striking difference was higher remyelination capacity in the cerebral cortex, which seems to be supported by microglia dominance.
A mitotic count is required for histological grading in resections of gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GISTs). However, no consensus on the utility of mitotic count in fine needle aspiration (FNA) GIST material currently exists. This study examines the relationship between mitotic counts of FNAs and subsequent resections of GISTs of the stomach.

We identified 39 cases of GISTs of the stomach diagnosed via FNA at our institution between January 1, 2014, and December 31, 2019, with subsequent resection. We noted if rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) was performed. Cell block (CB) material from FNAs was analysed for total area, percentage containing neoplastic cells, and number of mitoses. ROSE was performed in 82% of cases and called adequate every time. Mean values for total CB area, neoplastic material percentage, and area of neoplastic cells were 54.7mm
(range 1-986), 45% (range 10%-90%), and 19.2mm
, respectively; 27 cases (69%) had greater than 50 high powered fields of GIST material in the CB. Mean numbers of mitoses per 5 mm
were 0.38 (range 0-11) for CBs versus 5.92 (range 0-70) for resections (P<0.05).

At our institution, ROSE adequacy of spindle cell lesions focuses on diagnosing GIST rather than obtaining adequate material for histological grading. Mitotic figures were statistically lower in FNA CB material than subsequent resections, and using mitotic counts from CB material may underestimate the histological grade of GISTs of the stomach.

In Brazil, zoonotic sporotrichosis became a national public health problem, with thousands of cases in the last decade in several regions of the country. In this context, health education activities are critical, especially in promoting early diagnosis and access to proper health care in sporotrichosis hyperendemic areas. Therefore, we report the implementation of a public specialised reference service (SRS) for diagnosis and treatment of sporotrichosis in southern Brazil. We evaluated the impact of the SRS on diagnostic confirmation and speed of diagnosis.

The SRS was implemented in Rio Grande City. We implemented a public service to promote the correct diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of human sporotrichosis cases. To study the impact of implementing SRS, the annual number of cases and the period between the appearance of lesions until diagnosis were compared, using prior data and that post-implementation.

The implementation of the SRS directly benefited almost 50 patients in only four years, with the collaboration of almost 50% of the local health groups, together with an increase of more than 200% in diagnosis confirmation and speed of diagnosis, showing the reach, impact and importance of the SRS.

However, studies are often limited to severe clinical cases with small sample sizes and most do not include replication. Here, we examine two relatively large samples with structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), measures of lifetime MDD and cognitive variables Generation Scotland (GS subsample, N = 980) and UK Biobank (UKB, N = 8,900), for discovery and replication, using an exploratory approach. Regional measures of FreeSurfer derived cortical thickness (CT), cortical surface area (CSA), cortical volume (CV) and subcortical volume (subCV) were input into a clustering process, controlling for common covariates. The main analysis steps involved constructing participant K-nearest neighbour graphs and graph partitioning with Markov stability to determine optimal clustering of participants. Resultant clusters were (1) checked whether they were replicated in an independent cohort and (2) tested for associations with depression status and cognitive measures.
