The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of 10 intraoral scanners (IOSs) (CEREC Omnicam, CEREC Primescan, CS 3600, DWIO, i500, iTero Element, PlanScan, Trios 2, Trios 3, and True Definition) in obtaining the accurate positions of 6 cylinders simulating implant scan bodies. Digital scans of each IOS were compared with the reference dataset obtained by means of a coordinate measuring machine. Deviation from the actual positions of the 6 cylinders along the XYZ axes and the overall 3D deviation of the digital scan were calculated. The type of IOSs and position of simulated cylindrical scan bodies affected the magnitude and direction of deviations on trueness. The lowest amount of deviation was found at the cylinder next to the reference origin, while the highest deviation was evident at the contralateral side for all IOSs (p  0.05), and the DWIO and PlasScan had the lowest trueness in partially edentulous mandible digital implant scans (p  less then  0.001).Compliance of member States to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons is monitored through nuclear safeguards. Promptly before and after each participant's treatment regimen, high-fidelity LTM outcome measures were tested to assess mnemonic discrimination and other memory measures. The results showed a post-treatment gain in high-fidelity LTM capability for the Labyrinth-VR arm, relative to placebo, which reached the levels attained by younger adults in another experiment. This novel finding demonstrates generalization of benefits from the VR wayfinding game to important, and untrained, LTM capabilities. These cognitive results are discussed in the light of relevant research for hippocampal-dependent memory functions.This multi-site, double blind, parallel arm, fixed dose, randomised placebo controlled phase III study compared megestrol acetate 480 mg/day with dexamethasone 4 mg/day for their net effects on appetite in people with cancer anorexia. Patients with advanced cancer and anorexia for ≥ 2 weeks with a score ≤ 4 (0-10 numeric rating scale (NRS) 0 = no appetite, 10 = best possible appetite) were recruited. Participants received megestrol 480 mg or dexamethasone 4 mg or placebo daily for up to 4 weeks. Primary outcomes were at day 7. Responders were defined as having a ≥ 25% improvement in NRS over baseline. There were 190 people randomised (megestrol acetate n = 61; dexamethasone n = 67, placebo n = 62). At week 1 (primary endpoint), 79·3% in the megestrol group, 65·5% in the dexamethasone group and 58·5% in the placebo group (p = 0.067) were responders. No differences in performance status or quality of life were reported. Treatment emergent adverse events were frequent (90·4% of participants), and included altered mood and insomnia. Hyperglycemia and deep vein thromboses were more frequent when on dexamethasone than the other two arms. There was no difference in groups between the three arms, with no benefit seen over placebo with anorexia improving in all arms.Trail registration The trial was registered on 19/08/2008 with the Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry (ACTRN12608000405314).Red blood cells (RBCs) stressed by high temperature are similar to senescent or damaged RBCs in pathological conditions. RBCs can be efficiently labelled with 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG). The aim of this study was to assess stressed RBCs erythrophagocytosis and organ distribution in vivo with the application of 18F-FDG PET/CT. RBCs were induced under high temperature (48 °C) to prepare stressed RBCs. Fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) was used to analyse reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, intracellular Ca2+ concentration and membrane phosphatidylserine (PS) externalization of RBCs. 18F-FDG was used to label RBCs and assess the erythrophagocytosis. Finally, 18F-FDG PET/CT was applied to reveal and measure the organ distribution of stressed RBCs in mice. Compared with untreated RBCs, stressed RBCs decreased in cell volume and increased in ROS level, intracellular Ca2+ concentration, and PS exposure. RBCs could be labelled by 18F-FDG. Stressed RBCs tended to be phagocytosed by macrophages via assessment of FACS and radioactivity.
