Inadvertent migration of Avalon-Elite cannula in patients receiving veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV-ECMO) support is often difficult to manage. Cannula repositioning conventionally requires temporary discontinuation of the ECMO support which is often poorly tolerated in small infants with poor pulmonary reserve. We reported a case of a small infant weighing 3.9 kg requiring VV-ECMO support with a 13Fr Avalon-Elite cannula for respiratory failure secondary to severe pneumonitis, complicated by 2 episodes of cannula migration which were both successfully managed by transcatheter repositioning in the cardiac catheterization laboratory without interruption of ECMO flow.The purpose of this study was to evaluate the control effect of Bacillus atrophaeus TE7 on Cladosporium cladosporioides of mango fruit and how it effects quality attributes during 'Tainong' mango fruit storage. The results showed that strain TE7 had inhibition ability with the biocontrol efficacy of 85.56%. Furthermore, strain TE7 could produce lipopeptide substance, iturin A, and surfactants, which inhibited the growth and development of C. cladosporioides. Moreover, strain TE7 had the ability of improving the activities of defense response-related enzyme in mangoes. The changes of peel color, flesh firmness, contents of total soluble solids (TSS), titratable acid (TA), and ascorbic acid (Vc) were significantly delayed by strain TE7. The results demonstrated that B. atrophaeus TE7 could be applied as a biocontrol agent for the pathogen C. cladosporioides of mango fruit.
This study aimed to analyze the following PICO question Are animals infected with Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis) or bacterial lipopolysaccharide (Pg-LPS) more affected by neurodegeneration, similar to the pathogenesis generated by Alzheimer's disease(AD), compared with non-infected animals?

Databases PubMed, Lilacs, SciELO, Science Direct, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane were searched for pre-clinical in vivo studies in which mice were infected with P. gingivalis or received Pg-LPS, in order to assess the brain tissue and cognitive impairment. No limit for date or publication language was imposed and this study was registered at the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO), with nine articles included. Syrcle's protocol was used to evaluate bias in the selected studies.

Nine articles were included. Infection by P. gingivalis or the administration of Pg-LPS increased the production of the inflammatory mediators, TNF-α(tumor necrosis factor-alpha), IL-6(interleukiases in the elderly population.
Association between length and gauge of dental needle and success rate and pain perception during an inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB) has not been investigated using a randomized clinical trial (RCT). This RCT aimed to compare the success rate of IANB and perceived pain using 27- or 30-gauge needles for the extraction of adult mandibular molars.

A prospective RCT was conducted on two hundred and twelve adult patients requiring extraction of mandibular molars using standard methods as described by Malamed with 1.8ml of 2% lidocaine with 180,000 adrenaline. One hundred six patients received IANB using 27-gauge needles (32mm × 0.2mm) and one hundred six patients received IANB using 30-gauge needles (25mm × 0.15mm). Predictor variables were 27-gauge and short and 30-gauge. Outcome variables were the success rate of IANB and pain perception during injection using a visual analogue scale.

There was a highly significantly increase in the success of IANB using 27-gauge needle (95.28%) versus 30-gauge needle (41.51%) (P = 0.001). There was a significant increase in pain perception for patients who received IANB by shorter and thinner needle (30-gauge) when compared to the long and thicker needle (27-gauge).

This RCT demonstrated that 27-gauge needle seems to be associated with a higher success rate of IANB and lower pain perception during injection when compared to 30-gauge needle in the extraction of adult mandibular molars when compared to 30-gauge needles.

Following these new sequencing opportunities, the use of restriction enzyme-based genotyping techniques, such as restriction site-associated DNA sequencing (RAD-seq) or double-digest RAD-sequencing (ddRAD-seq), has dramatically increased in the last decade. From DNA sampling to SNP calling, the laboratory and bioinformatic parameters of enzyme-based techniques have been investigated in the literature. However, the impact of those parameters on downstream analyses and biological results remains less documented. The results of the study of surface, ground- and leachate waters from 2008 to 2016 were subjected to detailed statistical analysis based on 15 physicochemical indicators. Factor analysis accounted for the requirements of the WHO, the European Union and the nation of Poland using 8 statistical analytical methods. The analysis of leachate contamination from the landfill site with the use of advanced statistical tools revealed its interaction with groundwater. The assessment was based on increased and statistically significant values and correlations of temperature, Zn and N-NO3 between leachate and groundwater, factors demonstrating the negative impact of the landfill. In the case of Zn, there was also a correlation between the tested waters below the landfill. The increased PAH values in the examined surface and ground waters were not a consequence of waste disposal. The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of the multiple linear regression and Box-Jenkins methods for predicting the concentration of sea ice along the northwest coast of the Antarctic Peninsula. Sea ice concentration data from May to November for the period 1979-2018 were extracted from passive remote sensors including a scanning multichannel microwave radiometer, special sensor microwave imager, and special sensor microwave imager/sounder. Meteorological variables from the atmospheric reanalysis model ERA5 of the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts were used as predictor variables, and the leave-one-out cross-validation technique was used to calibrate and validate the models. It was found that both statistical models have similar performance when analyzing residual analysis results, root mean square error of cross-validation, and final accuracy and residual standard deviation, these responses being related to the regionalization of the study area and to the Box-Jenkins presents strong, homogeneous, and stable correlations in the time series modeled for each pixel.The aim of this study was to assess whether home phototherapy was feasible and safe in a cohort of otherwise healthy term-born neonates who fulfilled the criteria for in-hospital phototherapy. This was a randomized controlled trial in which term newborns with a total serum bilirubin of 18-24 mg/dL (300-400 μmol) were randomized to either home phototherapy or conventional in-hospital phototherapy. The primary outcome measurements were safety and efficacy, length of stay and the number of failed treatments. The secondary outcomes were the number of blood samples and weight gain during treatment. One hundred forty-seven patients were recruited, 69 patients randomized to conventional phototherapy and 78 to home phototherapy. The results showed that no patients needed blood exchange and only 4% of the patients allocated to home phototherapy were admitted to the hospital. The duration of phototherapy, length of stay, amount of blood tests and weight change showed no statically significant differences.Conclusion Home phototherapy could be a safe alternative to inpatient phototherapy for otherwise healthy newborns with hyperbilirubinemia if daily checkups and 24/7 telephone support can be provided. What is New • This is the first randomized controlled trial comparing home phototherapy with hospital phototherapy. • Results indicate that home phototherapy could be considered as a safe and feasible alternative when performed according to instructions given, to hospital treatment for otherwise healthy term newborns.From clinical practice, we noted that a subset of neonates with hyperinsulinism develop conjugated hyperbilirubinemia. A relationship between these two conditions has not been previously described. We aimed to assess the incidence of cholestasis in a cohort of neonates with hyperinsulinism and describe their clinical characteristics. In a retrospective cohort of 63 neonates with hyperinsulinism, 48% developed cholestasis (conjugated bilirubin > 17 μmol/L) with a median maximum conjugated bilirubin of 81 [21 to 191] μmol/L. A history of fetal distress (RR 2.3 [1.24-4.45], p less then 0.01) and prematurity (RR 2.0 [1.23-3.26], p less then 0.01) was associated with the development of cholestasis, but not parental nutrition or other pharmacological treatments. An underlying etiology for the cholestasis was only found in 1 patient, and in all cases the cholestasis spontaneously improved.Conclusions A significant percentage of infants with hyperinsulinism develop idiopathic, spontaneously resolving, conjugated hyperbilirubinemia.
