CONCLUSION Trunk stabilization differs between LBP patients and controls, with the same perturbations causing less trunk movement in patients, due to stronger reflexes. In order to better understand the influence of this ontogenetic shift on Hg accumulation, this study evaluates the concentrations of total mercury (THg), methyl mercury (MeHg), and stable isotopes of carbon and nitrogen (δ13C and δ15N) in a group of juveniles of the green turtle. Tissue samples (liver, kidney, muscle, and scutes) were sampled from 47 turtles stranded dead on the coast of Bahia, NE, Brazil, between 2009 and 2013. The turtles analyzed showed a size range of 24.9-62.0 cm and an average of 36.4 ± 7.2 cm of curved carapace length. The scutes showed to be a viable method for Hg monitoring in the green turtles. The concentrations of THg and MeHg decreased with increasing size. The isotope values of δ15N and δ13C did not show a clear relationship with the size, suggesting that the green turtles used in our work would be occupying similar trophic levels, and foraging habitat.This study was designed to assess the synergistic effects of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) concentrations on oil content, fatty acid profile, and predicted fuel properties of Dunaliella salina. Axenic D. salina cells were grown in F/2 growth medium of salinity 34 ppt containing 33.6 g.l-1 ultramarine synthetic sea salt. Growth dry weight, cell count, and their relationship were measured, and oils were extracted by soaking following Soxhlet extraction. Growth dry weight was markedly affected by N and P concentrations, with maximum growth dry weights of cultures grown at recommended N and P concentrations (control), half of the recommended N concentration (0.5 N) and (0.5 N/0.5P) being 0.911 g.l-1, 0.755 g.l-1, and 0.615 g.l-1, respectively. Oil content showed the reverse pattern, with cultures grown in the absence of phosphorus (0.0P), full N/P starvation (0.0 N/0.0P), and control resulting in maximum oil contents of 24.86%, 22.85%, and 5.88%, respectively. Estimated fuel properties of algal cells grown under NP stress conditions were found to meet the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and European Committee for Standardization (EN) guidelines.A novel composite material (nZVI/UiO-66) of nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI) with a functionalized metal-organic framework was synthesized by this study via a coprecipitation method, which was used for the efficient removal of U(VI) in the aqueous solution. The nZVI/UiO-66 had an excellent removal capacity of 404.86 mg g-1 with an initial U(VI) concentration of 80 mg L-1, 313 K and pH = 6. The transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed that nZVI particles were inhomogeneously distributed on the surface of UiO-66. The analysis by the X-ray diffraction (XRD) has further illustrated that the introduction of nZVI did not change the structure of UiO-66. The adsorption process closely followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic and the Freundlich isotherm model. The removal process of U(VI) by nZVI/UiO-66 was spontaneous and endothermic. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses have illustrated that the mechanism was mainly related to adsorption of U(VI) from UiO-66 and reduction of U(VI) by nZVI. Therefore, these results manifested that the nZVI/UiO-66 is a promising sorbent for the efficient and selective removal of U(VI) in radioactive wastewaters.Imazalil (IMZ), a fungicide containing imidazole group, is extensively used for the prevention and treatment of fungal diseases in plants. Current study was performed to examine cyto-genotoxic potential of IMZ on Allium cepa roots by following Allium ana-telophase and single cell gel electrophoresis (comet) assays. The concentration which reduced the growth of the root tips of IMZ by 50% compared to the negative control group (EC50) was found to be 1 μg/mL by Allium root growth inhibition test. 0.5, 1, and 2 μg/mL concentrations of IMZ were exposed to Allium roots for intervals of 24, 48, 72, and 96 h. 10 μg/mL of methyl methane sulfonate (MMS) and distilled water were used as control groups, both positive and negative. Statistical analysis was performed by using one-way ANOVA with Duncan's multiple comparison tests at p ≤ 0.05 and Pearson correlation test at p = 0.01. IMZ showed cytotoxic effect by statistically decreasing root growth and mitotic index (MI) and also genotoxic effect by statistically increasing chromosomal aberrations (CAs) and DNA damage compared to the negative control group. With these cyto-genotoxic effects, it should be used carefully and further cyto-genotoxic mechanisms should be investigated along with other toxicity tests.An accurate knowledge of the epidemiology of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is key for selecting appropriate antimicrobial treatments. Very few etiological studies assessed the appropriateness of empiric guideline recommendations at a multinational level. This study aims at the following (i) describing the bacterial etiologic distribution of CAP and (ii) assessing the appropriateness of the empirical treatment recommendations by clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for CAP in light of the bacterial pathogens diagnosed as causative agents of CAP. Secondary analysis of the GLIMP, a point-prevalence international study which enrolled adults hospitalized with CAP in 2015. The analysis was limited to immunocompetent patients tested for bacterial CAP agents within 24 h of admission. The CAP CPGs evaluated included the following the 2007 and 2019 American Thoracic Society/Infectious Diseases Society of America (ATS/IDSA), the European Respiratory Society (ERS), and selected country-specific CPGs. Among 2564 patients enrolled, 35.3% had an identifiable pathogen. Streptococcus pneumoniae (8.2%) was the most frequently identified pathogen, followed by Pseudomonas aeruginosa (4.1%) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (3.4%). CPGs appropriately recommend covering more than 90% of all the potential pathogens causing CAP, with the exception of patients enrolled from Germany, Pakistan, and Croatia. The 2019 ATS/IDSA CPGs appropriately recommend covering 93.6% of the cases compared with 90.3% of the ERS CPGs (p  less then  0.01). S. pneumoniae remains the most common pathogen in patients hospitalized with CAP. Multinational CPG recommendations for patients with CAP seem to appropriately cover the most common pathogens and should be strongly encouraged for the management of CAP patients.Pentamidine sensitizes FDA-approved antibiotics to combat Gram-negative pathogens. We screened 1374 FDA-approved non-antibiotics for their ability to be sensitized by pentamidine against Escherichia coli. We identified mitomycin C and mefloquine as potent hits effective against multiple drug-resistant, Gram-negative bacteria. Killing kinetics and an in vivo model with Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) revealed that such combinations produced synergy against colistin-resistant Enterobacter cloacae (E. cloacae). These findings suggest combinations of FDA-approved non-antibiotics, and pentamidine can be repurposed into new antimicrobial agents.BACKGROUND To address concerns about access to care, the Veterans Access, Choice, and Accountability Act of 2014 was enacted to make care available in the community when Veterans Health Administration (VA) care was unavailable or not timely. This paper examined VA referrals for diagnostic sleep studies from federal fiscal year (FY) 2015-2018. DESIGN Sleep studies completed between FY2015 and 2018 for Veterans tested within VA facilities (VAF) or referred to VA community care (VACC) providers were identified using VA administrative data files. Sleep studies were divided into laboratory and home studies. KEY RESULTS The number of sleep studies conducted increased over time; the proportion of home studies increased in VAF (32 to 47%). Veterans were more likely to be referred for a sleep study to VACC if they lived in a rural or highly rural area (ORs = 1.47 and 1.55, respectively), and had public or public and private insurance (ORs = 2.01 and 1.35), and were less likely to be referred to VACC if they were age 65+ (OR = 0.
