Objective Developmental dyslexia is a highly heritable specific reading and writing disability. To identify a possible new locus and candidate gene for this disability, we investigated a four-generation pedigree where transmission of dyslexia is consistent with an autosomal dominant inheritance pattern. Methods We performed genome wide array-based SNP genotyping and parametric linkage analysis and sequencing analysis of protein-coding exons, exon-intron boundaries and conserved extragenic regions within the haplotype cosegregating with dyslexia in DNA from one affected and one unaffected family member. Cosegregation was confirmed by sequencing all available family members. Additionally, we analyzed 96 dyslexic individuals who had previously shown positive LOD scores on chromosome 4q28 as well as an even larger sample (n = 2591). Results We found a single prominent linkage interval on chromosome 4q, where sequence analysis revealed a nucleotide variant in the 3' UTR of brain expressed SPRY1 in the dyslexic family member that cosegregated with dyslexia. This sequence alteration might affect the binding efficiency of the IGF2BP1 RNA-binding protein and thus influence the expression level of the SPRY1 gene product. An analysis of 96 individuals from a cohort of dyslexic individuals revealed a second heterozygous variant in this gene, which was absent in the unaffected sister of the proband. An investigation of the region in a much larger sample further found a nominal p-value of 0.0016 for verbal short-term memory (digit span) in 2,591 individuals for a neighboring SNV. After correcting for the local number of analyzed SNVs, and after taking into account linkage disequilibrium, we found this corresponds to a p-value of 0.0678 for this phenotype. Conclusions We describe a new locus for familial dyslexia and discuss the possibility that SPRY1 might play a role in the etiology of a monogenic form of dyslexia.A pandemic designated as Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is spreading worldwide. To analyze the inflammatory profiles of COVID-19 patients and demonstrate their implications for the illness progression of COVID-19. Age (95%CI, 1.017 to 1.048; P less then 0.001), serum amyloid A protein (SAA) (95%CI, 1.216 to 1.396; P less then 0.001) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) (95%CI, 1.006 to 1.045; P less then 0.001) were likely the risk factors for the disease progression. The Area under the curve (AUC) of SAA for the progression of COVID-19 was 0.923, with the best predictive cutoff value of SAA of 12.4 mg/L, with a sensitivity of 83.9% and a specificity of 97.67%. SAA-containing parameters are novel promising ones for predicting disease progression in COVID-19.This brief report summarizes Adult Protective Services training provided to workers across the nation, using survey results from the National Adult Protective Services Association (NAPSA). Results As in the index study, both Tele-MACE and Tele-Free-Cog proved sensitive for dementia diagnosis. Tele-MACE had a better balance of sensitivity and specificity than observed with MACE. Tele-MACE was sensitive for mild cognitive impairment diagnosis, whereas Tele-Free-Cog was more specific for mild cognitive impairment. Participants completed two trials performed on separate days comprising blood sampling at rest (n=22) and after treadmill-running (n=14). Between-day CVs for FORT (4.6%) and FORD (4.8%) were acceptable at rest. There was no difference in the between-day magnitude of change in any biomarker from pre- to post-exercise (p>0.05), yet the within-trial change in FORD was variable (trial one +4.5%, p=0.15; trial two +6.3%, p less then 0.05). TAC and FORD were significantly correlated pre- and post-exercise (r=~0.53, p less then 0.05), whereas F2-isoprostanes and FORT had a significant correlation pre-exercise only (r=0.45, p=0.03). Overall, the POC tests are reliable and could be used for baseline longitudinal redox monitoring. More data is required on POC tests for assessing redox perturbations induced by exercise.
Wellness champion networks are deemed an important component to workplace wellness programs. By encouraging colleagues to engage in healthy behaviors, champions can help improve employee health and well-being outcomes, while reducing healthcare costs and increasing productivity. However, little evidence exists regarding factors that impact the effectiveness of a wellness champion. This study examined the relationship between employee engagement in a workplace wellness champion program and the direct manager's support of the wellness champion role.

A descriptive study was conducted with a 15-item cross-sectional survey that was developed and disseminated to 470 wellness champions at a large academic institution. Survey questions addressed manager/supervisor support for the wellness champion, manager/supervisor support for faculty and staff direct reports participating in wellness activities, and demographic questions.

One hundred and ninety-nine (42%) wellness champions responded to the survey and respongenerate cost-savings, manager support of wellness champions is necessary to facilitate employee engagement in workplace wellness champion programs.
Food insecurity and malnutrition has been reported to have a strong connection with human immunodeficiency viruses (HIV); this is more pervasive in Sub-Saharan Africa including Ethiopia. In this study, we examined the predictors of food insecurity and factors associated with malnutrition among people living with HIV (PLHIV) in Benishangul Gumuz Regional State, Ethiopia.

We conducted a cross-sectional study at outpatient antiretroviral therapy (ART) clinics. Data were collected using participant interview, anthropometry, and participants' chart review. Interviews were carried out with 390 PLHIVs who were on antiretroviral treatment follow-up. Four robust multivariate linear regression models were used to identify predictors of food insecurity and factors associated with malnutrition.

The prevalence of food insecurity and malnutrition among PLHIV were found to be 76% and 60%, respectively. The predictors of food insecurity were urban residence; household dependency; average monthly income below 53.19 USD; and nutrition security with HIV treatment and care programmes.The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) AgrAbility Program was established as part of the 1990 Farm Bill. It functions through partnerships between land grant universities and nonprofit disability organizations to improve the independence and quality of life of ranchers and farmers with disabilities. This article reports on analyses of the first 25 years of demographic data from clients served by funded state AgrAbility projects. Between 1991 and 2016, State or Regional AgrAbility Projects (SRAPs) provided information, education, and service annually to an estimated average of 490 new clients for a total of 11,754 new clients. link3 New clients' average age was 52.1 with 75.1% male. Primary causes of reported disabilities were chronic nonincident-related disabilities (41.7%), non-agricultural incidents (32.2%), and agricultural incidents (19.5%). Typically AgrAbility served clients for one to 74 months (M = 14.85 months), because of the severity of their disabilities, the deterioration of their situation, and the years it sometimes took to assist them in reaching their goals. Combining new, ongoing, reopened, and closed case reports, SRAPs served approximately 1,190 clients annually on average. The average age of new, ongoing, reopened, and closed case reports was 52.7 with 78.0% male. Here, we expand these findings to adult female mice and profiled genome-wide ventral hippocampal 5hmC levels related to malnutrition-induced anxiety-like behaviours and their rescue by an enriched environment. This approach revealed 508 differentially hydroxymethylated genes associated with protein malnutrition and that several genes (N = 34) exhibited a restored 5hmC abundance to control levels following exposure to an enriched environment, including genes involved in neuronal functions like dendrite outgrowth, axon guidance, and maintenance of neuronal circuits (e.g. Fltr3, Itsn1, Lman1, Lsamp, Nav, and Ror1) and epigenetic mechanisms (e.g. Hdac9 and Dicer1). Sequence motif predictions indicated that 5hmC may be modulating the binding of transcription factors for several of these transcripts, suggesting a regulatory role for 5hmC in response to perinatal malnutrition and exposure to an enriched environment.
