Effects of prokinetics around the intestinal tract.
A new methodology for the selective extraction of antioxidants from mate tea leaves (and decaffeinated mate tea leaves), using different natural deep eutectic systems (NADES), is reported in this paper. A fractionated extraction was carried out and the optimization of the extraction conditions such as solid/liquid ratio, temperature, time, stirring and the use of ultrasound assisted extraction (UAE) technology was performed. The results demonstrate that a sequential extraction using, in a first step, an hydrophobic system MenLau (21) and, in a second step, an hydrophilic lactic acid-based NADES, leads to two distinct extracts the first one rich in pigments and the second one rich in polyphenols. NADES systems were able to extract 30% more of the polyphenolic components of the mate tea leaves matrices, when compared with traditional solvents/techniques. Moreover, it has been shown that the incorporation of the extract in the NADES, compared to the same extract in aqueous medium was beneficial for the stabilization of the antioxidants. It maintains their functionality at least for three months, reaching 41% more versus the extracts obtained by traditional solvents/techniques. The absence of caffeine in the extracts did not shown to have any effects on the stability results.Students' self-determined motivation (acting out of interest, curiosity, and abiding values) is associated with higher academic well-being, persistence, and achievement. Self-determination theory posits that self-determined motivation is dependent on the satisfaction of three psychological needs (relatedness, competence, and autonomy), which are in turn facilitated through need-supportive behaviors from notable others. In this meta-analysis, conducted over 144 studies and more than 79,000 students, we sought to overview pathways to student motivation in order to verify (1) how do psychological needs rank in the strength of their prediction of self-determined motivation and (2) which autonomy-support providers (parents or teachers) are the most relevant for psychological need satisfaction in students and self-determined motivation. Results show that teacher autonomy support predicts students' need satisfaction and self-determined motivation more strongly than parental autonomy support. In addition, competence is the most positive predictor of self-determined motivation, followed by autonomy and then by relatedness.
Dysregulated immune response arising in the periphery can induce depressive symptoms through neuroimmune interactions. Inflammatory oral pathology can be a potent inducer of chronic neuroimmune response relevant to depression. We aimed to synthesize available evidence for the association between inflammatory periodontal diseases (IPD) and major depression (MD) in relation to a broad range of biomarkers.

Medline, Embase, PsycInfo, Cochrane Library, Web of Science and Scopus databases were searched from inception until January 27, 2022. Search terms included subject headings and synonyms for inflammatory periodontal disease and depression. Studies that reported data on both depression and inflammatory periodontal disease as categories along with measurement of a biomarker were considered. Two reviewers independently selected the articles for inclusion, extracted data and assessed the quality of each study. The protocol for this study was registered with PROSPERO, CRD42021215524.

Twenty-eight studies were es showed interaction of immune, inflammatory and neurotrophic biomarkers in the relationship between depression and periodontal disease, human studies showed mixed findings. In most studies, there were risks of bias due to the sample selection and assessment protocol. Study heterogeneity and limited number of comparable studies reporting on shared biomarkers precluded a meta-analysis.

Immune-inflammatory contribution to depression was evident in the context of inflammatory periodontal diseases, but whether biomarkers mediate the associations between IPD and MD needs to be tested through methodologically rigorous studies aiming specifically at this hypothesis.

Gliomas are highly invasive tumors with the highest mortality among all primary malignant brain tumors. Until now, the molecular mechanism that is responsible for glioma tumorigenesis and progression remains unclear. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are short non-coding RNAs with 18-22 nucleotides in length which function as key regulators of various biological processes through negative control over gene expression at the post-transcriptional level. MiRNA dysregulation plays a key role in cancer oncogenesis, including the development and progression of gliomas. MiRNAs regulate a wide range of tumor processes including cell proliferation, differentiation, angiogenesis, invasion and apoptosis. In addition, microRNAs can be selectively packaged, secreted, and transported between cells in exosomes that are able to cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and are readily available in almost all types of human body fluids, making them promising biomarkers for gliomas. Increasing evidence has shown that miRNAs play an important role in glioma. For example, a large number studies indicated that this miRNA-21could affect on a variety of cellular and molecular pathways such as insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-binding protein-3 (IGFBP3), RECK, and TIMP3. Exosomal miR-21 may has key roles in gliomas pathogenesis. These findings indicated that miR-21 has critical roles in gliomas pathogenesis and could be used as diagnostic and therapeutic biomarkers for glioma patients. Profiling miRNAs expression in various human pathological conditions is a rapidly growing field, and it is likely that the knowledge gained from these studies regarding the genesis of gliomas will have the potential in the field of minimally invasive therapy with miRNA to improve the prognosis of patients with this pathology.
The study aimed to evaluate the nicotine addiction syndrome among students of the medical university of Wroclaw.

The anonymous self-administered online questionnaire regarding tobacco and e-cigarettes smoking was sent to 5616 students. A total of 407 students from Wrocław Medical University who fulfilled the questionnaire were enrolled.

One-fourth of the surveyed medical students smoke or have smoked cigarettes in the past. About 75% of students report that there is no information about the harmfulness of smoking and its consequences in the course of teaching in medical studies. The majority of students, 74.5% of women and 62.8% of men, agree that nicotine dependence syndrome should become part of the curriculum of medical universities.

The proportion of smokers among medical students is very high, and their knowledge of smoking is insufficient. It seems necessary to implement urgent education for medical students about the consequences of smoking and the treatment of nicotine dependence syndrome. The knowledge of future doctors about the harmfulness of smoking in the future will allow reducing the number of patients suffering from smoking-related diseases and may help reduce the number of smokers among students. It seems necessary to intensify the antismoking campaigns in Poland and worldwide.

Blood transfusion is traditionally 'authorised' by doctors, not prescribed. However, there is an increasing interest in extending the capability of authorisation to other practitioners - that is, non-medical authorisation (NMA). A UK framework for nurses and midwives has existed since 2007, but training for critical care paramedics (CCPs) has been limited. The Resuscitation with Pre-Hospital Blood Products (RePHILL) trial was launched in 2016, requiring pre-hospital administration of red cells and LyoPlas. Authorisation was initially restricted to doctors, leading to missed recruitment by paramedic-only crews. The trial protocol was amended in 2019 to permit NMA following suitable training and stakeholder consultation. We present a targeted training programme designed to support paramedic-led transfusion within the framework of the pre-hospital trial. We considered the knowledge and skills required for NMA and compared this with baseline knowledge from paramedic training to identify the training gap. We examined examples of existing military and civilian NMA training to develop a targeted programme for a single air ambulance. The four elements of our training programme were pre-course online training, previous trial participation, face-to-face training and competency assessment. Training was delivered to three CCPs, who cascaded the training to 14 colleagues. The training time was one morning, including a face-to-face session and assessment. NVP-TNKS656 datasheet Novel topics included physiological triggers for transfusion and transfusion risks in the pre-hospital environment. Paramedics were encouraged to recognise and report new patterns of adverse events. Reflective feedback suggests the programme provided CCPs the knowledge to autonomously recruit trial patients and authorise transfusion.Stress elicits divergent patterns of structural plasticity in the amygdala and hippocampus. Despite these contrasting effects, at least one of the immediate consequences of stress - elevated levels of extracellular glutamate - is similar in both brain areas. This raises the possibility that the contrasting effects of stress on neuronal plasticity is shaped by differences in astrocytic glutamate clearance in these two brain areas. Although astrocytes play a key role in glutamate reuptake, past analyses of, and interventions against, stress-induced plasticity have focused largely on neurons. Hence, we tested the impact of riluzole, which potentiates glutamate clearance by astrocytic glutamate transporters, on principal neurons and astrocytes in the basal amygdala (BA) and hippocampal area CA1. Chronic immobilization stress reduced spine-density on CA1 pyramidal neurons of male rats. Riluzole, administered in the drinking water during chronic stress, prevented this decrease; but, the drug by itself had no effectn the astrocytic glutamate reuptake machinery that are likely to have important functional consequences for stress-induced dysfunction, and its reversal, in two brain areas implicated in stress-related psychiatric disorders.
