Preclinical studies have reported significant changes in the gut microbiome after traumatic brain injury (TBI). We hypothesized that TBI induces the growth of Proteobacteria in the human gut. Our primary outcome was to study the profile of the human fecal microbiome after TBI and the secondary outcome was to identify colonization with colistin-resistant and multidrug-resistant pathogens.
Consecutive patients with moderate-severe TBI admitted to the neurotrauma-intensive care unit within 48 hours of injury were enrolled into this observational study. Samples from rectal swabs obtained on days 0, 3, and 7 after admission were assessed for microbial growth and antibiotic resistance. Demographic data and variables such as hypotension, blood transfusion, surgery, start of nasogastric feeding, use of antibiotics, length of hospital stay and mortality were noted.
One hundred one patients were enrolled into this study; 57 (56.4%) underwent surgery, 80 (79.2%) required blood transfusion, 15 (14.9%) had an episode of hypotension, 37 (36.6%) received enteral feed within the first 3 days, and 79 (78.2%) received antibiotics. Rectal microbiological samples were collected from 101, 95, and 85 patients on days 0, 3, and 7, respectively. All organisms isolated at the 3 time-points belonged to the Proteobacteria phylum, with Enterobacteriaceae forming the largest group. Colistin-resistant organisms were found in 17 (16.8%) of 101 patients and multidrug-resistant organisms in 25 (64.1%) of the 39 patients in whom isolates were tested against the entire panel of antimicrobials.

There is limited literature on the representation of women in leading roles in neuroanesthesiology and neurocritical care academia. We aimed to determine the representation of women as first and corresponding authors in articles published in 3 dedicated journals of neuroanesthesiology and neurocritical care during last 5 years.
Articles published in the Journal of Neurosurgical Anesthesiology, Neurocritical Care, and Journal of Neuroanaesthesiology and Critical Care between July 1, 2015 and June 30, 2020 were included in this study. The primary outcome was the proportion of women first authors, and secondary outcomes were the percentage of women corresponding authors, and representation of women as first and corresponding author by article type and country of affiliation.
Of the 1164 articles included in the study, 403 (34.6%) had a woman first author. Women first authorship was highest for Special Articles (5/11; 45.5%), Clinical Reports (44/113; 38.9%) and Narrative Review Articles (58/151; 38.4%) and lowest for Original Research Articles (198/597; 33.2%). IPI-145 order Women accounted for 29.6% (344/1164) of corresponding authors across all article types. Overall, the United States and India had the highest representation of women first authors (159/403; 39.0% and 107/344; 31.0%, respectively), and India also had highest proportion of women corresponding authors (107/272; 39.3%).

The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the predictive ability of the Örebro Musculoskeletal Pain Screening Questionnaire (ÖMPSQ) in regard to work productivity (absenteeism and presenteeism) in early adulthood.
A prospective study was performed using data from the Raine Study Generation 2 (Gen2) 22-year follow-up. The ÖMPSQ was completed at baseline, and absenteeism and presenteeism assessed at 4 intervals over the following 12 months.
In early adulthood, the full and short versions of the ÖMPSQ showed some predictive ability for work absenteeism but the Receiver Operator Characteristic demonstrated poor discrimination. There was no evidence of predictive ability for presenteeism.
Further work is required to increase the fidelity of screening for risk of reduced work productivity at the population level.

To quantify adequacy of personal protective equipment (PPE) for U.S. healthcare personnel (HCP) at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic and its association with infection risk.
March-May 2020 survey of the national Nurses' Health Studies and the Growing Up Today study regarding self-reported PPE access, use and reuse. COVID-19 endpoints included SARS-CoV-2 tests and COVID-19 status predicted from symptoms.
Nearly 22% of 22,232 frontline HCP interacting with COVID-19 patients reported sometimes or always lacking PPE. Fifty percent of HCP reported not needing respirators, including 13% of those working in COVID-19 units. Lack of PPE was cross-sectionally associated with two-fold or greater odds of COVID-19 among those who interacted with infected patients.

Identify work-related factors associated with the mental health and well-being of construction workers.
We completed eight key informant interviews, six worker focus groups, and a survey, informed by the interviews and focus groups, of 259 construction workers on five construction sites. Negative binomial regressions examined associations between psychological distress and work-related factors including safety climate, work-to-family conflict, psychological demands, social support, harassment, and job security.
Three themes emerged from the interviews and focus groups, job demands and structure, social support and workplace relations, and job precarity. From the survey higher psychological demands, higher work-to-family conflict, lower supervisor support, higher discrimination, and higher likelihood of losing a job were associated with higher psychological distress. When combined into a single model job demands and work-to-family conflict remained significant.
Work-related factors were associated with high levels of distress.
