The benefits of gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogues (GnRHa) in the treatment of central precocious puberty are well established, and their use is regarded as both safe and effective. Possible adverse effects on blood pressure (BP) and cardiac outcomes, body composition, bone health and brain development, however, continue to be of some concern. The aim of this study was to analyze BP changes in transgender female adolescents before and after receiving GnRHa and after adding estrogen treatment.
This was a retrospective pilot study. We analyzed systolic BP (SBP) and diastolic BP (DBP) before and after GnRHa initiation and after adding estrogen.
Nineteen transgender female adolescents received GnRHa and 15 continued to estrogen treatment. Their baseline SBP and DBP percentiles did not change significantly after either GnRHa or the addition of estrogen treatment.
Blood pressure is apparently not affected by GnRHa or GnRHa+estrogen treatment in transgender female adolescents. Further larger studies are indicated to confirm these findings.

Further larger studies are indicated to confirm these findings.This study reports the effects of aqueous extracts obtained from three fern species of Bulgarian origin Asplenium ceterach L., Asplenium scolopendrium L., and Asplenium trichomanes L. on the contractility and bioelectrogenesis of rat gastric smooth muscle tissues. In the concentration range 0.015-0.150 mg/mL the three extracts contracted smooth muscle tissues in a concentration-dependent manner. The contractions caused by A. ceterach L. and A. scolopendrium L. Debio 0123 datasheet extracts (0.150 mg/mL) were reduced by ketanserin (5 × 10-7 and 5 × 10-6 mol/L), an antagonist of serotonin 5-HT2 receptor. The contraction evoked by A. trichomanes L. (0.150 mg/mL) was significantly reduced by 1 × 10-6 mol/L atropine, an antagonist of muscarinic receptors, and turned into relaxation against the background of 3 × 10-7 mol/L galantamine. After combined pretreatment with galantamine and l-arginine (5 × 10-4 mol/L), this relaxation become more pronounced. The study demonstrates that constituents of A. ceterach L. and A. scolopendrium L. extracts act as agonists of 5-HT2 receptors and cause contraction by activating serotonergic signaling system. A. trichomanes L.-induced reaction is an additive result of two opposite-in-character effects. The dominant contraction is initiated by inhibition of acetylcholinesterase activity. The relaxation develops with pre-inhibited acetylcholinesterase, it is significantly potentiated by l-arginine, and therefore associated with nitrergic signaling pathway.
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the association of body fat distribution with cardiometabolic risk factors clustering among Chinese adolescents.
In this cross sectional study a total of 1,175 adolescents aged 10-18 years underwent a comprehensive assessment of cardimetabolic risk factors. Body fat analysis was performed with bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA).
Individuals with the CVRFs≥1 or CVRFs≥2 had higher indices of body fat distribution such as body fat mass (BFM) compared to those with normal CVRFs (all p<0.001). The prevalence of CVRFs≥1, CVRFs≥2 increased with increasing of the quartile of BFM, TBFM, ABFM, LBFM, PBF, VFL compared to normal subjects. After adjusted for age and sex, the study indicated an linear relationship between TBFM (
= 0.693, 95% CI0.363, 1.023), LBFM (
=-1.471, 95% CI-2.768,-0.175) and CVRFs z-score. Logistic regression models suggested TBFM was associated with CVRFs≥1 andCVRFs≥2 by higher odds. Lower odds of LBFM was associated with CVRFs≥2.

The function and expression of cytochrome P450 (CYP) drug metabolizing enzymes is highly variable, greatly affecting drug exposure, and therapeutic outcomes. The expression of these enzymes is known to be controlled by many transcription factors (TFs), including ligand-free estrogen receptor alpha (ESR1, in the absence of estrogen). However, the relationship between the expression of ESR1, other TFs, and CYP enzymes in human liver is still unclear.
Using real-time PCR, we quantified the mRNA levels of 12 CYP enzymes and nine TFs in 246 human liver samples from European American (EA, n = 133) and African American (AA, n = 113) donors.
Our results showed higher expression levels of ESR1 and six CYP enzymes in EA than in AA. Partial least square regression analysis showed that ESR1 is the top-ranking TF associating with the expression of eight CYP enzymes, six of which showed racial difference in expression. Conversely, four CYP enzymes without racial difference in expression did not have ESR1 as a top-ranking TF. These results indicate that ESR1 may contribute to variation in CYP enzyme expression between these two ancestral backgrounds.
These results are consistent with our previous study showing ESR1 as a master regulator for the expression of several CYP enzymes. Therefore, factors affecting ESR1 expression may have broad influence on drug metabolism through altered expression of CYP enzymes.

P. gingivalis expresses a glutaminyl cyclase (PgQC) whose human ortholog is known to participate in the beta amyloid peptide metabolism. We have elucidated the crystal structure of PgQC at 1.95 Å resolution in unbound and in inhibitor-complexed forms. The structural characterization of PgQC confirmed that PgQC displays a mammalian fold rather than a bacterial fold. Our biochemical characterization indicates that PgQC uses a mammalian-like catalytic mechanism enabled by the residues Asp149, Glu182, Asp183, Asp218, Asp267 and His299. In addition, we could observe that a non-conserved Trp193 may drive differences in the binding affinity of ligands which might be useful for drug development. With a screening of a small molecule library, we have identified a benzimidazole derivative rendering PgQC inhibition in the low micromolar range that might be amenable for further medicinal chemistry development.This review analyzed the studies that evaluated cardiovascular health indicators (blood pressure, waist circumference, heart rate, glucose index and lipid blood) in recreational soccer players during adolescence, and identify possible associated factors. The search was performed in the electronic databases (PubMED, SciELO, LILACS, Scopus, SPORTDiscus and Web of Science). Inclusion criteria were population composed of children and/or adolescents (10-19 years or average age up to 19 years); studies adolescents engaged in recreational soccer regularly and observational studies with cross-sectional or longitudinal design. The process of analysis of studies involved reading titles, abstracts and full texts. After these phases, seven articles were eligible. Regarding the design, all studies were cross-sectional. Of the total studies included, five presented moderate methodological quality values and two presented low methodological quality values, according to National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute instrument. The most cardiovascular health indicators used in recreational soccer players during adolescence was waist circumference; three studies analyzed heart rate, two evaluated blood pressure, one analyzed insulin resistance and none of the included studies analyzed lipid profile. Factors associated were analyzed in four studies, being that sedentary time and body mass index (BMI) present association with at least one indicator of cardiovascular health.Emotion is one of the most complex and difficult expression to be predicted. Nowadays, many recognition systems that use classification methods have focused on different types of emotion recognition problems. In this paper, we aimed to propose a multimodal fusion method between electroencephalography (EEG) and electrooculography (EOG) signals for emotion recognition. Therefore, before the feature extraction stage, we applied different angle-amplitude transformations to EEG-EOG signals. These transformations take arbitrary time domain signals and convert them two-dimensional images named as Angle-Amplitude Graph (AAG). Then, we extracted image-based features using a scale invariant feature transform method, fused these features originates basically from EEG-EOG and lastly classified with support vector machines. To verify the validity of these proposed methods, we performed experiments on the multimodal DEAP dataset which is a benchmark dataset widely used for emotion analysis with physiological signals. In the experiments, we applied the proposed emotion recognition procedures on the arousal-valence dimensions. We achieved (91.53%) accuracy for the arousal space and (90.31%) for the valence space after fusion. Experimental results showed that the combination of AAG image features belonging to EEG-EOG signals in the baseline angle amplitude transformation approaches enhanced the classification performance on the DEAP dataset.

Additional testing of RT-PCR positive samples for SARS-CoV-2 subgenomic RNA showed that, by three groups, PPA was 63.
