These were then evaluated in a final logistic regression model adjusting for potential confounders (age, SES, geography). All analyses were stratified by sex.

Among men, trauma and solvents were associated with higher odds of ALS (OR=1.55, 95% CI 1.08-2.23; OR=1.49, 95% CI 1.17-1.89, respectively), and presented a negative interaction (OR=0.49, 95% CI 0.30-0.80). A positive diesel/CVD interaction was observed (OR=1.56, 95% CI 0.94-2.60). Among women, solvents, trauma, lead, and CVD were associated with higher odds of ALS, and a negative lead/solvents interaction was documented (OR=0.52, 95% CI 0.42-0.63).

This study is one of the first attempts to evaluate joint and interactive effects of multiple risk factors on ALS, identifying potential synergistic and antagonistic mechanisms.

Agricultural workers may be occupationally exposed and general populations may be exposed to GLY mainly through diet. We studied the kinetics of GLY by measuring the parent compound and its metabolite aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA) in urine samples of three volunteers after an experimental oral exposure. We further examined GLY exposure by measuring GLY and AMPA in spot urine samples of 197 young adults in the general population in Scania, southern Sweden. Urine samples were analyzed using LC-MS/MS. In the experimental exposure, three healthy volunteers received an oral dose equivalent to 50% of the ADI for GLY. Urinary samples were collected up to 100 h after the exposure. The excretion of GLY to urine seemed to follow first-order kinetics and a two-phase excretion. The excretion half-life of GLY (density adjusted) was 6-9 h in the rapid phase and 18-33 h in the slower phase. The total dose recovered as unchanged GLY in the urine samples of volunteers was 1-6%. The metabolite AMPA was found to be 0.01-0.04% of the total dose of GLY. In the population of young adults, the median concentration was below 0.1 μg/L and a maximum concentration being 3.39 μg/L (density adjusted). AMPA was generally detected in lower concentrations (maximum = 0.99 μg/L). A moderate correlation (Spearman's ρ = 0.56) was observed between GLY and AMPA concentrations. Overall, the results may suggest that GLY and AMPA partly originate from separate exposures and that unchanged GLY is a more suitable biomarker of exposure.Somatic inputs originating from bioregulatory processes can guide cognition and behavior. One such bodily signal, mostly overlooked so far, is represented by visuo-vestibular coupling and its alteration, which in extreme cases may result in motion sickness. We argued that the inherently perturbed interoceptive state that follows can be a powerful determinant of human motivated behavior, resulting in a blunted response to appetitive stimuli and an exaggerated response to noxious ones. We sought to assess such differential impact of visuo-vestibular mismatches on value through a task involving conflict monitoring. We therefore administered to 42 healthy participants a modified version of the Flankers task, in which distractors (arrows, pointing in either a congruent or incongruent direction) signaled the availability of monetary incentives (gains, losses, or neutral trials). While performing the task, participants received either galvanic vestibular stimulation (GVS), or sham stimulation. We have found impaired behavioral performances when value, which was attached to task-irrelevant information, was at stake. Gains and losses, interestingly, dissociated, and only the latter caused enhanced interference costs in the task, suggesting that negative incentives may be more effective in capturing human attention than positive ones. Finally, we have found some weak evidence for GVS to further increase the processing of losses, as suggested by even larger interference costs in this condition. Results were, however, overall ambiguous, and suggest that much more research is needed to better understand the link between the vestibular system and motivation. While functional lateralization of the human brain has been a widely studied topic in the past decades, few studies to date have gone further than investigating lateralization of single, isolated processes. With the present study, we aimed to arrive at a more unified view by investigating lateralization patterns in face and word processing, and associated lower-level visual processing. We tested a large and heterogeneous participant group, and used a number of tasks that had been shown to produce replicable indices of lateralized processing of visual information of different types and complexity. Following Bayesian statistics, group-level analyses showed the expected right hemisphere (RH) lateralization for face, global form, low spatial frequency processing, and spatial attention, and left hemisphere (LH) lateralization for visual word and local feature processing. Compared to right-handed individuals, lateralization patterns of left-handed and especially those who are RH-dominant for language deviated from this 'typical' pattern. Our results support the notion that face and word processes come to be lateralized to homologue areas of the two hemispheres, under influence of the RH- and LH-specializations in global form, local feature, and low and high spatial frequency processing. As such, we present a more unified understanding of lateralized vision, providing evidence for the input asymmetry and causal complementarity principles of lateralized visual information processing. The absence of correlations between spatial attention and lateralization of the other processes supports the notion of their independent lateralization, conform the statistical complementarity principle.
Family members are a part of the team to improve the outcomes of the person with cancer. Families require support and information to optimise their care, however, their needs are often unacknowledged and within clinical areas there is a lack of family focused interventions. Studies highlight families' needs but lack a family representation. The aim was to explore research with family as the unit-of-care during cancer treatment.

The Pickering systematic quantitative literature review method; a 15-step process from searching, database development and analysis was followed. Research published 2008-2019 within databases MEDLINE, SCOPUS, PsycINFO, Cochrane, CINAHL; key words, 'family* or caregiver*, and cancer*, neoplasm* and coping*, distress* in November 2019. Quality assessment completed using Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool, descriptive quantitative analysis and thematic analysis.

Studies involving patients and family members were included in the review (N=73). The analysis identified participants had a mean age of 58 years and primarily lung, breast or prostate cancer.
