After a short hiatus, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. The album is a departure from the ballads of previous albums and includes some heavy rock. It was their first platinum album in North America.

During the recording process for the fifth album The group loses its manager and faces financial challenges. They decide to change their name and record a new album with a new producer. The lead singer Fergie Frederiksen leaves the band and is replaced by Joseph Williams, son of the legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman and gives the band a much-needed boost.

The band releases Mindfields in 1999 and embarks on a major tour across the globe. After several weeks in Europe, the band heads to Japan for sold-out shows. After a short break, Toto resumes recording and continues to record their first live album titled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes the cover of Weezer's track Hash Pipe in response to the band covering their hit Africa on the recent tour. Toto's touring group includes drummer Lenny Castro and bassist Shannon Forrest, as well as keyboardist Shem Von Schroeck.

Toto is a rock group from America who achieved their greatest success in the 1980s. The band was founded by session musicians with experience and has sold more than 40 million albums around the world.

The next year, Toto toured together with Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band. This was the last time that the original members of Toto were performing together. The band broke up again after this. Toto reunited for the benefit concert in 2010 to raise money for the ALS Foundation. This was the first time that all original Toto members had been performing together for more than 31 years. In addition to the original members, keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.
