Type II Diabetes (T2D) is considered a major health burden locally, regionally and internationally. Gender differences in T2D prevalence were found in several epidemiological and observational studies. The primary goal of this study was to assess the prevalence of T2D-related comorbidities and treatment modalities and the impact of gender.

This was a cross-sectional study that was conducted between June of 2013 and July of 2016 for patients with T2D at the 2 main outpatient diabetes clinics in Taif city, Saudi Arabia. Those with type I diabetes, gestational diabetes and drug-induced diabetes were excluded.

A total of 945 patients with a mean age of 58.4±11.8 years with a nearly equal distribution among both genders but with slightly more male predominance (52.2%). When compared to females, male patients were more likely to be older (p<0.001) and exhibit a longer T2D duration (P 0.003), lower mean BMI (p<0.001), lower systolic blood pressure (P 0.062), higher diastolic blood pressure (P 0.468), less likely to have hypertension and be on ACE/ARB blockers (P 0.065 and 0.019, respectively), more likely to have hyperlipidemia and be on a statin (P 0.065 and 0.124, respectively), and more likely to have cardiac disease and stroke and to be on beta-blockers (P 0.005, 0.279, 0.005, respectively).

Mystus nigriceps is a consumption fish species and also preferred as ornamental fish. The existence of this species population in Kampar Kanan and Kampar Kiri river continues to decline due to non-selective fishing. While conservation efforts through domestication are currently not done. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between length and weight and relative condition factors of M. nigriceps on Kampar Kanan and Kampar Kiri river.

A total of 414 fish were collected from both rivers. Fish samples were collected from local fishermen in Kampar Kanan and Kampar Kiri rivers. The fish length measured by using calipers with an accuracy of 0.01 mm and the weight measured with a digital scale with 0.01 g accuracy.

The total length of M. nigriceps from Kampar Kanan river ranges from 97.48-160.45 mm and weighs 5.58-59.54 g, while from Kampar Kiri river has a total length ranging from 94.66-198.64 and weight of 6.28-60.44 g. The length and weight relationship of M. negriceps in Kampar Kanan river can be estimated with equation W = 0.0029*L3.393 (R2 = 0.86) with relative condition factor value (Kn) 3.37 and have positive allometric growth pattern. While the length and weight relationship in Kampar Kiri river is W = 0.0034*L3.256 (R2 = 0.91) with relative condition factor value (Kn) 4.62 and also have positive allometric growth.

This study provides the first baseline data on the relationship between length and weight and relative condition factors of M. nigriceps from Kampar Kanan and Kampar Kiri rivers in Riau Province, Indonesia. Preeclampsia (PE) is a life threatening disease prevailing in pregnant women in Indonesia. Impaired kidneys and livers function in PE has a high risk during pregnancy. This study aimed to determine the role of nanoherbal haramonting and Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) on kidney and liver safety in preeclampsia rats. Nanoherbal Rhodomyrtus tomentosa is a medicinal plant with antioxidant activity such as EVOO which acts as inhibitor of oxidation, reduces lipid peroxidation and increases the speed of epithelialization.

This study used pregnant rats (Ratus norvegicus) consisting of 5 treatments. Animal models of preeclampsia were made by injection of NaCl 6% 3 mL/day/kg b.wt., subcutaneously in pregnancy of 6-12 days and then given herbs in pregnancy at 13-19 days. The study group consisted of, C- Normal pregnant rats, C+ PE rats, T1 PE rats were given EVOO, T2 PE rats were given nanoherbal haramonting and T3 PE rats were given EVOO and nanoherbal haramonting. Tissue histology was made by the paraffin method and staining Hematoxylin Eosin which was dissected on the 20th day of pregnancy.

There was no significant difference in weight of the liver and kidneys after administration of EVOO and nanoherbal haramonting. Apoptosis related inhibitor The administration of this herb significantly decreased the narrowing of the kidney tubules and the glomerular diameters. Both of these herbs also repaired preeclamptic liver damage (p<0.05) in normal hepatocyte cells, parenchymal degeneration and necrosis.
