With the increasing number of patients undergoing arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR), postoperative pain control in these patients has become an important issue. We investigated and compared post-operative pain relief with intravenous acetaminophen (IA) and interscalene brachial plexus block (IBPB) after ARCR.
This prospective study involved 66 consecutive patients who underwent ARCR in 2019-2020at our hospital. Overall, 23 and 43 shoulders were assigned to the IA and IBPB groups, respectively. We evaluated the visual analog scale (VAS) pain scores at rest, during activity, and at night for the first 72h postoperatively. We compared the results statistically between the groups. A p-value <0.05 was considered statistically significant.
VAS scores for night pain in the IBPB group were significantly lower than those in the IA group for the first 24h postoperatively (p=0.017). In contrast, the same scores were significantly lower in the IA group than in the IBPB group at 72h postoperatively (p=0.024). Other scores were not significantly different between the groups.
IBPB provides superior night pain control during the first 24h postoperatively, and IA provides superior night pain control at 72h postoperatively. However, there were no significant differences in other pain scores between the two groups.

We aimed to clarify the iliac anatomy in developmental dysplasia of the hip using three-dimensional computed tomography.
The distance between two points along each anatomical portion of the ilium, including the acetabular center, were compared between patients in the dysplasia and control groups.
There were no significant differences in the upper part of the ilium between the groups. However, three distances that included the acetabular center were significantly shorter in the dysplasia group than in the control group.

Databases were searched according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews. PD patients had higher wound infections, dislocations, peri-prosthetic fractures, and revision surgery compared to their non-PD counterparts. They also had inferior functional outcomes, and longer and expensive hospital admissions. Dual-mobility (DM) implants had the lowest survival rate. THR in PD patients is associated with significant surgical complications and peri-operative challenges. Despite the use of DM implants to minimize instability, there is insufficient evidence on its effectiveness and long-term survivorship.
The purpose of this study was retrospectively to analyze the risk factors for non-union in Anderson-D'Alonzo type III odontoid fractures with conservative treatment.
25 patients with type III fractures were analyzed. Coronal and sagittal tilt as well as sagittal and lateral mass gaps were measured by using computed tomography.
The non-union group had significantly higher age, greater coronal tilt and lateral mass gap. Especially, the lateral mass gap was >2mm in all cases with non-union.

The usage of short stems in primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) has constantly gained popularity over the last decade, however, to date, short stems are not eligible to be used as revision implants. The aim of this study was to retrospectively evaluate the outcome of revision surgery of failed hip resurfacing arthroplasty (HRA) using short-stem THA.
In a single center, retrospective analysis, 6 consecutive patients who were treated with a calcar-guided short stem after failure of HRA were evaluated. The mean follow-up was 3.25 years (SD 0.45). Patient reported outcome measurements (PROMs) were recorded using the Harris hip score (HHS) and The Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC). The health status was evaluated by the EQ-5D-5L score. Pain and satisfaction were obtained using the visual analogue scale (VAS). Radiographic analysis was performed by evaluating osteolysis, stress shielding, alignement and signs of aseptic loosening. Complications were documented.

This is a retrospective cohort single-surgeon study of consecutive primary THAs using the DAA or PA.
There was no significant difference in HHS and JHEQ score. Posterior dislocation occurred in 4 cases in PA group (9.5%, p=0.038) while there was no dislocation in DAA group.

However, in the fight of preserving the environment and pioneering renewable energy sources, environmentally sustainable carbon precursors with superior electrochemical performance are needed. Therefore, bio-based materials are excellent candidates to replace PAN as a carbon precursor. Depending on the design requirement (e.g. carbon morphology, doping level, specific surface area, pore size and volume, and electrochemical performance), the appropriate selection of carbon precursors can be made from a variety of biomass and biowaste materials. This review provides a summary and discussion on the preparation and characterization of the emerging and recent bio-based carbon precursors that can be used as electrodes in energy storage applications. The review is outlined based on the morphology of nanostructures and the precursor's type. Furthermore, the review discusses and summarizes the excellent electrochemical performance of these recent carbon precursors in storage energy applications. Finally, a summary and outlook are also given. Easy and no contact acquisition of the radiological images makes it a suitable alternative and this work can help to locate and interpret some prominent features for the screening purpose. One major challenge of this domain is the absence of appropriately annotated ground truth data. Motivated from this, a novel unsupervised machine learning-based method called SUFMACS (SUperpixel based Fuzzy Memetic Advanced Cuckoo Search) is proposed to efficiently interpret and segment the COVID-19 radiological images. This approach adapts the superpixel approach to reduce a large amount of spatial information. The original cuckoo search approach is modified and the Luus-Jaakola heuristic method is incorporated with McCulloch's approach. This modified cuckoo search approach is used to optimize the fuzzy modified objective function. This objective function exploits the advantages of the superpixel. Both CT scan and X-ray images are investigated in detail.
