Gaining a global understanding of parental burnout, in other words, rests on building firmer and more differentiated pictures at the local level. The papers in this volume nevertheless present an important step forward in what promises to be an exciting journey of discovery.In recent years, cultural safety has been proposed as a transformative approach to health care allowing improved consideration of Indigenous patient needs, expectations, rights and identities. This community-based participatory study aimed to identify potential barriers and enablers to cultural safety in health care provided to Atikamekw living with diabetes in Québec, Canada. Based on a qualitative descriptive design, the study uses talking circles as a data collection strategy. Three talking circles were conducted with Atikamekw living with diabetes and caregivers, as well as with health professionals of the family medicine teaching clinic providing services to the community. Two team members performed deductive thematic analysis based on key dimensions of cultural safety. Results highlight four categories of barriers and enablers to cultural safety for Atikamekw living with diabetes, related to social determinants of health (including colonialism), health services organization, language and communication, as well as Atikamekw traditional practices and cultural perspectives of health. This study is one of the few that provides concrete suggestions to address key aspects of diabetes care in a culturally respectful way. Our findings indicate that potential enablers of cultural safety reside at different (from individual to structural) levels of change. Solutions in this matter will require strong political will and policy support to ensure intervention sustainability. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION Partners and patients have been involved in identifying the need for this study, framing the research question, developing the data collection tools, recruiting participants and interpreting results.Partnerships in Health Information (Phi) was a UK charity which worked with African health librarians, and other information professionals, to improve access to high-quality information for health professionals and the public in Africa from 1992 to 2016. This research was initiated by Shane Godbolt and aims to explore the experiences of African librarians and information professionals who visited the UK and who otherwise worked in partnership with Phi, following up on a previous Phi report that had shown significant mutual learning and development benefits for the UK hosts of such visitors. In March 2020, a total of 21 people who had participated in partnership activities with Phi were invited to take part in an online survey. Thirteen people completed the survey. The results from the survey indicate it was hugely beneficial to visiting information professionals from Africa, for themselves and their services, through capacity building, networking, professional and personal development and learning tangible skills. Respondents provided several ideas on how partnerships could be improved in the future, including more opportunities for networking, longer-term evaluation, enlarged programmes and increased funding. We conclude that partnerships based on Phi's long-term, flexible approach can be of great benefit and provide insights and recommendations that could help any organisation seeking to emulate the Phi model of partnership working, based on co-development between UK health libraries and those in low- to middle-income countries.The emerging field of molecular cybernetics has the potential to widely broaden our perception of chemistry. Chemistry will develop beyond its current focus that is mainly concerned with single transformations, pure compounds, and/or defined mixtures. On this way, chemistry will become autonomous, networked and smart through communicating molecules each of which serves a control engineering purpose, like the set of wheels in the machinery of life. The present personal account describes our latest developments in this field.
Allergic contact dermatitis to cosmetics (ACDC) complicates the diagnosis and treatment of rosacea, and is increasingly observed in daily practice.
The present study aimed to identify the contact allergens responsible for ACDC in Chinese female rosacea patients with or without suspected ACDC (SACDC).
From a total of 1267 women with rosacea, 122 with SACDC, 145 without SACDC, and 100 age-matched healthy controls without rosacea or SACDC were examined on a voluntary basis. Skin patch tests with C-1000 cosmetic series (Chemotechnique Diagnostics, Malmo, Sweden) were conducted, including 20 selected allergens.
Positive allergic reaction was found in 85.2% and 33.8% of SACDC and non-SACDC (P<.001), respectively, and 27.0% of healthy volunteers. Most reactions occurred at day 3, and the majority of all the examinees including normal controls reacted to more than 1 allergen. In SACDC patients, leading allergens were methylchloroisothiazolinone/methylisothiazolinone (28.7%), linalool hydroperoxide (27.1%), fragrance mix I (21.3%), methylisothiazolinone (17.2%), limonene hydroperoxides (16.4%), formaldehyde (14.8%), myroxylon pereirae (13.9%), and propolis (10.7%); the overall allergic reaction rate positively correlated with new onset of facial pruritus (P<.001). The occurrence of irritant contact reactions correlated with positive allergic reactions in rosacea patients with or without SACDC (P=.032 or P<.001, respectively).

Patch testing should be considered in the suspected patients.Nucleophilic substitutions, including SN 1 and SN 2, are classical and reliable reactions, but a serious drawback is their intolerance for both bulky nucleophiles and chiral tertiary alkyl electrophiles for the synthesis of a chiral quaternary carbon center. An SRN 1 reaction via a radical species is another conventional method used to carry out substitution reactions of bulky nucleophiles and alkyl halides, but chiral tertiary alkyl electrophiles cannot be used. Therefore, a stereospecific nucleophilic substitution reaction using chiral tertiary alkyl electrophiles and bulky nucleophiles has not yet been well studied. In this paper, we describe the reaction of tertiary alkyl alcohols and non-chiral or chiral α-bromocarboxamides as a tertiary alkyl source for the formation of congested ether compounds possessing two different tertiary alkyl groups on the oxygen atom with stereoretention.
Using natural populations of Helicoverpa zea from Arizona, we tested the hypotheses that gene flow between Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) plants and non-Bt plants in a seed mixture of 10% non-Bt corn and 90% Bt corn producing Cry1A.105 and Cry2Ab reduces larval performance on ears from non-Bt plants, or increases performance on ears from Bt plants.
Gene flow was not detected in blocks of non-Bt or Bt corn but was extensive in seed mixtures. Analyses of larval weight and abundance over a period of 3 to 4 weeks did not indicate consistent effects of gene flow on development rate and survival. However for non-Bt plants, the ear area damaged and percentage of ears with exit holes were significantly lower in the seed mixtures than blocks. By contrast, the percentage of ears with exit holes and ear damage did not differ significantly between the seed mixtures and blocks for Bt plants. Nearly 100% of the ears were damaged and the damaged area was substantial, showing that H. zea is a major ear-feeding pest in Arizona. Relative to non-Bt corn, the pyramided Bt corn did not significantly reduce the percentage of damaged ears and only reduced the ear area damaged by 21 to 39%, indicating that H. zea may have evolved resistance to Cry1A.105, Cry2Ab, or both.

Reported herein is a facile synthesis of two-dimensional coplanar Pt-carbon nanomeshes (NMs) that are composed of highly distorted Pt networks (neck width of 2.05±0.72 nm) and carbon. X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy demonstrated the metallic state of Pt in the coplanar Pt/C NMs. Fuel cell tests verified the excellent activity of the coplanar Pt/C NM catalyst with the peak power density of 1.21 W cm-2 and current density of 0.360 A cm-2 at 0.80 V in the H2 /O2 cell. Moreover, the coplanar Pt/C NM electrocatalysts showed superior stability against aggregation, with NM structures preserved intact for a long-term operation of over 30 000 cycles for electrode measurement, and the working voltage loss was negligible after 120 h in the H2 /O2 single cell operation. Density-functional theory analysis indicates the increased vacancy formation energy of Pt atoms for coplanar Pt/C NMs, restraining the tendency of Pt dissolution and aggregation.The landscape of possible polymorphs for some metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) can pose a challenge for controlling the outcome of their syntheses. Demonstrated here is the use of a template to control in the vapor-assisted formation of zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF) powders and thin films. Introducing a small amount of either ethanol or dimethylformamide vapor during the reaction between ZnO and 4,5-dichloroimidazole vapor results in the formation of the porous ZIF-71 phase, whereas other conditions lead to the formation of the dense ZIF-72 phase or amorphous materials. Time-resolved in situ small-angle X-ray scattering reveals that the porous phase is metastable and can be transformed into its dense polymorph. This transformation is avoided through the introduction of template vapor. The porosity of the resulting ZIF powders and films was studied by N2 and Kr physisorption, as well as positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy. The templating principle was demonstrated for other members of the ZIF family as well, including the ZIF-7 series, ZIF-8_Cl, and ZIF-8_Br.Alginate lyases are potential agents for disrupting alginate-rich Pseudomonas biofilms in the infected lungs of cystic fibrosis patients but there is as yet no clinically approved alginate lyase that can be used as a therapeutic. We report here the endolytic alginate lyase activity of a recombinant Cellulophaga algicola alginate lyase domain (CaAly) encoded by a gene that also codes for an N-terminal carbohydrate-binding module, CBM6, and a central F-type lectin domain (CaFLD). CaAly degraded both polyM and polyG alginates with optimal temperature and pH of 37°C and pH 7, respectively, with greater preference for polyG. Recombinant CaFLD bound to fucosylated glycans with a preference for H-type 2 glycan motif, and did not have any apparent effect on the enzyme activity of the co-associated alginate lyase domain in the recombinant protein construct, CaFLD_Aly. We assessed the potential of CaAly and other alginate lyases previously reported in published literature to inhibit biofilm formation by a clinical strain, Pseudomonas aeruginosa MCC 2081.
