Older adults with cognitive impairment often experience poor oral health outcomes due to inadequate oral hygiene practices. This pilot study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of a care partner-assisted intervention to improve the oral hygiene of community-dwelling older adults with cognitive impairment.

The 6-month intervention included 25 older adults with mild dementia or mild cognitive impairment, who were randomly assigned to Treatment Group 1 or Treatment Group 2. Treatment Group 1 (n=7) received an educational booklet. Treatment Group 2 (n=18) received a booklet, a tailored care plan for the participants with cognitive impairment and the care partner received four coaching sessions to learn to facilitate good oral hygiene. Both groups received electric toothbrushes. The study consisted of a 3-month active intervention and 3-month maintenance phase. The outcomes of gingival index, plaque index and overall oral health status based on the Oral Health Assessment Tool were measured at baseline, 3months (end of active intervention) and 6months of the study.

This study had very low dropout rate. Participants' oral hygiene improved in this study. In comparison to Treatment Group 1, participants in Treatment Group 2 had a greater reduction in plaque level and gingival inflammation, and greater improvement in overall oral health status.

This study aimed to examine the relationship between the temporal changes in endometrial blood flow impedance during natural and hormone replacement therapy (HRT) cycles and clinical outcomes of vitrified-warmed embryo transfer (ET).

Apathy is a neuropsychiatric symptom frequently observed in patients with cognitive impairment. It has been found to be a predictor of conversion from mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to dementia of Alzheimer disease type. However, this association between apathy and dementia conversion has not yet been confirmed in vascular MCI, especially post-stroke MCI. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether apathy would increase the risk of dementia conversion in patients with post-stroke MCI after 6 months.

A prospective multi-centre cohort study was performed in 14 clinics in seven provinces and cities of China. A total of 989 subjects were included 2 weeks to 6 months after stroke, and met the diagnostic criteria of International Working Group for MCI. Human whole blood samples (n = 23) and spiked whole blood samples (n = 7) with a concentration range between 5 and 2000 ng/ml were analysed at specific time intervals, up to 90 days. Differences were evident between the stability of authentic and spiked samples. PEth was stable at 4°C for 60 days (concentrations within 15% of initial concentration) in authentic samples, whereas spiked samples were stable for up to 30 days. We report on a 35-year-old male patient who presented to the emergency department a day after celebrations. The night before, the alcoholized patient tried to spit fire with an oily fuel paste. A fever, dyspnea and chest pain were present.
