The present study aims to determine the impact of phyllanthin on the MOLT-4 cytotoxic effect. MOLT-4 cells and MS-5 cells were cultured at different concentrations of phyllanthin (5, 10, 25, 50, 75, and 100 μM/ml), and the viability was assessed by the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide method. The level of reactive oxygen species, the membrane potential of mitochondria, apoptosis by 2',7'-dichlorofluorescin-diacetate (DCF-DA), rhodamine, acridine orange (AO)/ethidium bromide (EB), 4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI)/propidillanthin can be used as a potential target for leukemia treatment.Microsurgical reconstructive head and neck cancer patients are at high risk of venous thromboembolism. The use of anticoagulation can reduce their risk; however, this also increases their bleeding risk. It is not clear whether the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks, and whether a specific post-operative anticoagulation regime is superior. The aim of this review is to evaluate the evidence pertaining to the risks and benefits of post-operative anticoagulation and to provide a rationale for its use in head and neck cancer patients receiving free flaps. The secondary aim was to determine the optimal post-operative anticoagulation regimen. A search was conducted in the PubMed and EMBASE databases identifying studies reporting venous thromboembolism rates in reconstructive head and neck cancer patients undergoing free flaps. These studies were reviewed for their eligibility. Outcomes measured were rates of venous thromboembolism, bleeding-related and microsurgical complications. A total of 306 studies were found from the search with another seven studies identified from citations of key articles. After assessment, nine studies were included. Venous thromboembolism rates ranged from 0.5% to 7% and the rates of bleeding-related complications ranged from 2.4% up to 29%. Anticoagulation appears to lower the risk of venous thromboembolism in this patient group, but also increases the bleeding risk. Risk stratification using the Caprini risk assessment model can help surgeons make decisions. For patients with cancer, low molecular weight heparin appears to be superior to heparin given twice daily but equal to heparin given three times daily and the bleeding risk of each medication appears similar.Tandem duplication mutations are increasingly found to be the direct cause of many rare heritable diseases, accounting for up to 10% of cases. Unfortunately, animal models recapitulating such mutations are scarce, limiting our ability to study them and develop genome editing therapies. Here, we describe the generation of a novel duplication mouse model, harboring a multi-exonic tandem duplication in the Dmd gene which recapitulates a human mutation. Duplication correction of this mouse was achieved by implementing a single-guide RNA (sgRNA) CRISPR/Cas9 approach. This strategy precisely removed a duplication mutation in vivo, restored full-length dystrophin expression, and was accompanied by improvements in both histopathological and clinical phenotypes. We conclude that CRISPR/Cas9 represents a powerful tool to accurately model and treat tandem duplication mutations. Our findings will open new avenues of research for exploring the study and therapeutics of duplication disorders.The use of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) in practical applications demands shaping them into macroscopic objects, which remains challenging. Herein, we report a simple three-step method to produce COF aerogels, based on sol-gel transition, solvent-exchange, and supercritical CO2 drying, in which 2D imine-based COF sheets link together to form hierarchical porous structures. The resultant COF aerogel monoliths have extremely low densities (ca. 0.02 g cm-3 ), high porosity (total porosity values of ca. 99 %), and mechanically behave as elastic materials under a moderate strain ( less then 25-35 %) but become plastic under greater strain. Moreover, these COF aerogels maintain the micro- and meso-porosity of their constituent COFs, and show excellent absorption capacity (e.g. toluene uptake 32 g g-1 ), with high removal efficiency (ca. 99 %). The same three-step method can be used to create functional composites of these COF aerogels with nanomaterials.
To compare the psychometric properties of different short versions of the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) among community-dwelling widowed older people.

A cross-sectional design was conducted between February 2018 and August 2019 in southern Taiwan (n=330). The GDS short versions included Hoyl et al's 5-item version, Molloy et al's 5-item version and van Marwijk et al's 4-item version.

All GDS short versions had satisfactory internal consistency (α=0.83-0.90), with strong item loading embedded in the same construct of depression (0.43-0.72). The activity of daily living (ADL) scores had strong associations with van Marwijk et al's 4-item version (absolute standardised coefficient [|β|]=0.15-0.59), Hoyl et al's 5-item version (|β|=0.16-0.45) and Molloy et al's 4-item version (|β|=0.09-0.40).

Hoyl et al's 5-item version was found to be more suitable than the other two versions of the GDS to assess the precise construct of depression. Meanwhile, van Marwijk et al's 4-item version can be used when the focus is on ADL performance. However, the conclusion should be interpreted with caution since the results were derived only from a widowed population in Taiwan. More research on this topic among other populations is thus needed to corroborate our conclusion.
