Analyses also show that the importance of male-breadwinner norms is strongest among couples for whom the male-breadwinner identity is most salient, namely married couples. By directly measuring and leveraging variation in the key explanatory of interest, gender culture, our study offers novel and robust evidence reinforcing the importance of gender norms to understand when romantic relationships end.The central role of MRI in neuro-oncology is undisputed. The technique is used, both in clinical practice and in clinical trials, to diagnose and monitor disease activity, support treatment decision-making, guide the use of focused treatments and determine response to treatment. Despite recent substantial advances in imaging technology and image analysis techniques, clinical MRI is still primarily used for the qualitative subjective interpretation of macrostructural features, as opposed to quantitative analyses that take into consideration multiple pathophysiological features. However, the field of quantitative imaging and imaging biomarker development is maturing. The European Imaging Biomarkers Alliance (EIBALL) and Quantitative Imaging Biomarkers Alliance (QIBA) are setting standards for biomarker development, validation and implementation, as well as promoting the use of quantitative imaging and imaging biomarkers by demonstrating their clinical value. In parallel, advanced imaging techniques are reaching the clinical arena, providing quantitative, commonly physiological imaging parameters that are driving the discovery, validation and implementation of quantitative imaging and imaging biomarkers in the clinical routine. Additionally, computational analysis techniques are increasingly being used in the research setting to convert medical images into objective high-dimensional data and define radiomic signatures of disease states. Here, I review the definition and current state of MRI biomarkers in neuro-oncology, and discuss the clinical potential of quantitative image analysis techniques.Patient registries include data on patient diagnosis, demographics, treatment, and outcomes and are now fundamental to the provision of successful global health systems. Patient registries include mainly local, regional, and national patient data on general or specific patient groups. Global registries currently exist mainly for rare diseases. Some of the most studied registries include the national Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) program and the hospital-based Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC-III) dataset. The limitations of registry databases have included lack of feedback from clinical studies to the clinical center, the lack of patient involvement, and limited findings on patient-reported outcomes (PROs). In September 2020, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) published its draft guidelines on registry-based clinical studies. Guidelines for the development and analysis of registry data will improve the quality and registry-based studies and increase the role of registry data to support clinical trials. This Editorial aims to present the current status of registries and population databases in clinical research and practice.BACKGROUND Chest imaging may be taken into consideration in detecting viral lung infections, especially if there are no tests available or there is a need for a prompt diagnosis. Imaging modalities enable evaluation of the character and extent of pulmonary lesions and monitoring of the disease course. The aim of this study was to verify the prognostic value of chest CT in COVID-19 patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS We conducted a retrospective review of clinical data and CT scans of 156 patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection confirmed by real-time reverse-transcription polymerase-chain-reaction (rRT-PCR) assay hospitalized in the Central Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of the Interior in Warsaw and in the Medical Centre in Łańcut, Poland. The total severity score (TSS) was used to quantify the extent of lung opacification in CT scans. RESULTS The dominant pattern in discharged patients was ground-glass opacities, whereas in the non-survivors, the dominant pulmonary changes were consolidations. The non-survivors were more likely to have pleural effusion, pleural thickening, lymphadenopathy, air bronchogram, and bronchiolectasis. There were no statistically significant differences among the 3 analyzed groups (non-survivors, discharged patients, and patients who underwent prolonged hospitalization) in the presence of fibrotic lesions, segmental or subsegmental pulmonary vessel enlargement, subpleural lines, air bubble sign, and halo sign. CONCLUSIONS Lung CT is a diagnostic tool with prognostic utility in COVID-19 patients. The correlation of the available clinical data with semi-quantitative radiological features enables evaluation of disease severity. FG-4592 concentration The occurrence of specific radiomics shows a positive correlation with prognosis. The global pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has identified thousands of genome sequences of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). On 31st May 2021, the Virus Evolution Working Group of the World Health Organization (WHO) announced its recommendations for revised naming of SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern (VOCs) and variants of interest (VOIs). This new nomenclature system may improve infection monitoring, infection control, and sharing of research data on viral genomics and epidemiology. This Editorial aims to present an update on the current revised WHO terminology for the genomic VOCs and VOIs of SARS-CoV-2.BACKGROUND Traumatic rupture of the ascending aorta is a life-threatening injury, with a survival rate of around 15% to 20%. Treatment with open surgical repair is the criterion standard. However, open surgical repair is associated with high mortality and morbidity in patients with multiple traumas. There are no systematic data on traumatic thoracic rupture and aorta rupture in a cohort of patients who had undergone partial or total replacement of the thoracic aorta. We can only speculate about the mechanisms and consequences of such an injury. Therefore, even unorthodox endovascular techniques are a welcome advancement in this field and should be considered, providing they do not compromise patient safety. CASE REPORT A 61-year-old man presented with polytrauma after a fall from height. Since the patient had a history of a Bentall procedure, hypertension, coronary disease, and nicotinism, we quickly excluded open surgery as a treatment option. However, the patient's condition, additional injuries, and anatomical features prompted us to perform coil pseudoaneurysm, reducing his operative trauma and allowing for his faster recovery and early rehabilitation. The patient has remained under careful clinical supervision. The result of the patient's 1-year follow-up was satisfactory. CONCLUSIONS In this case, the endovascular approach was an effective, if temporary, option to open or hybrid surgery. This demonstrates that minimally invasive surgery can be helpful in some patients and can also be helpful as a bridge therapy. A good rapport between the surgeon and the patient is crucial to understanding the advantages and disadvantages of such treatment.BACKGROUND At present, the association between blood pressure, regional cerebral blood flow, and white matter lesions is not well understood. MATERIAL AND METHODS A total of 147 subjects aged from 40 to 80 years were assessed by the Fazekas score for white matter lesions, CT perfusion imaging for regional cerebral blood flow, and 24-h ambulatory blood pressure monitoring for blood pressure level and rhythm. Logistic regression analysis was used to obtain the odds ratio and 95% confidence interval between Fazekas scores and relevant factors. The relationship between blood pressure index and regional cerebral blood flow was analyzed through cubic curve estimation. RESULTS Fazekas score was negatively correlated with regional cerebral blood flow (r=-0.801; r=-0.831, P less then 0.001). For subcortical lesion, the regional cerebral blood flow of Fazekas grade 0 was 1.976 times that of Fazekas grade 3 (OR=1.976, 95% CI=1.576-2.477), and for periventricular lesion, the regional cerebral blood flow of Fazekas grade 0 was 2.034 times that of Fazekas grade 3 (OR=2.034, 95% CI=1.602-2.583). Increased nighttime systolic blood pressure may be more dangerous (OR=1.112, 95% CI=1.059-1.169). The day-night systolic blood pressure ratio (OR=0.801, 95% CI 0.711-0.902) and the day-night diastolic blood pressure ratio (OR=0.876, 95% CI 0.807-0.950) were significantly correlated with Fazekas score. CONCLUSIONS The decrease of white matter regional cerebral blood flow caused by hypertension is probably one of the important causes of white matter lesions. Patients with white matter lesions should also pay attention to the rhythm of blood pressure when controlling hypertension, especially if their blood pressure is too high or too low at night.
Gdovin, JR, Galloway, R, Tomasiello, LS, Seabolt, M, and Booker, R. External training load monitoring and the impact on training load management in collegiate male soccer players. J Strength Cond Res XX(X) 000-000, 2021-Soccer is a physically demanding sport within the National Collegiate Athletic Association and continuously increases in popularity. To ensure athletes are adequately prepared for weekly physical stressors, coaches can use global positioning system technology to monitor external workloads and exercise intensity. These data can subsequently help coaches and practitioners better implement individualized training programs to ensure athletes are properly balancing the overreaching and overtraining paradigm. Therefore, the purpose of this observational study was to retrospectively analyze 3 consecutive seasons of external workload (total and high intensity distance) and injury data, which were derived from all training sessions and matches in 46 Division-I collegiate male soccer players. A coach'tionality behind load management and how it prepares athletes for the physical stressors placed on them throughout a season. Two separate 3 × 3 repeated measures ANOVAs were conducted to determine differences between total distance and distance at high-intensity with an alpha level set at 0.05. Total distance between preseason and in-season (p = 0.003), acute high-intensity distance (p less then 0.001), and chronic high-intensity distance (p less then 0.001) yielded significant differences. These results conclude the demands of each athlete change weekly and between seasons. It is recommended that sport coaches and practitioners develop individualized training programs by workload monitoring while considering variables such as a team's style of play, experience, position, role within a program, training intensity, and the length of time between conditioning sessions, practices, and matches.Food-related quality of life is defined as achieving adequate nutrition, deriving pleasure, and maintaining social activities through eating and drinking. The objective of this qualitative study was to characterize the parental perspective about eating experiences and family functioning after diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease in their child in order to describe how these experiences may impact food-related quality of life. Semistructured interviews were completed with 10 parents of a child with inflammatory bowel disease. Conventional content analysis was conducted with steps to ensure trustworthiness. Family Systems Theory was the interpretive framework. Ambiguous nutrition information emerged as the main theme. Families experienced various and conflicting viewpoints regarding the role of diet, which presented a challenge after diagnosis. Parents reported frustration regarding the lack of uniform and personalized nutrition guidance. Our results support that families desire shared decision-making in regard to medication and diet, which is an important clinical practice implication for the entire gastroenterology medical team.
