Lateral lumbar interbody fusion (LLIF) is a novel, minimally invasive technique for the surgical treatment of lumbar diseases. The aim of this study was to identify the incidence and risk factors of lateral cage migration (LCM) occurred after the first-stage LLIF.

The hypothesis was that LCM occurred after the first-stage LLIF was associated with some demographic characteristics, surgical variables and radiographic parameters.

Between June 2016 and August 2020, 335 patients (901 levels) underwent staged LLIF were retrospectively reviewed. Patients were classified into LCM and non-LCM group based on the experience of LCM before the second-stage posterior instrumentation. 100 patients in non-LCM were randomly sampled as a control group. Incidence of LCM was determined; demographic characteristics, surgical variables and radiographic parameters associated with LCM were compared between the LCM and control group. Univariate analyses and multivariable logistic regression analysis were used to identify the risk factors.

LCM occurred after the first-stage LLIF was found in 19 (5.7%) patients. Bony endplate injury (OR, 106.255; 95% CI, 1.265-8924.765; p=0.039) and greater preoperative range of motion (ROM) (OR, 2.083, 95% CI, 1.068-4.066, p=0.031) were high risk factors for LCM. LCM occurred mainly 3 days later after the first-stage LLIF, while 4 cases experienced severe neural symptoms, intolerable low back pain and finally underwent reoperation.

LCM occurred after the first-stage LLIF was significantly associated with bony endplate injury and greater preoperative ROM. Second-stage posterior fixation should be performed as soon as possible or a supplement lateral fixation/self-locking cage should be used in high-risk patients.

The aim of this study was to evaluate potential changes in choroidal flow in patients with newly diagnosed obsessive-compulsive disorder based on optical coherence tomography angiography findings and to investigate the relationship between subfoveal choroidal thickness and choriocapillaris flow area.

This prospective study included newly diagnosed obsessive-compulsive disorder patients and healthy controls. All patients underwent enhanced depth imaging-optical coherence tomography imaging to assess the subfoveal choroidal thickness and optical coherence tomography angiography imaging to evaluate the choriocapillaris flow area.

A total of 55 patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder and 50 controls were included. The mean subfoveal choroidal thickness was significantly greater in the obsessive-compulsive disorder group compared to the control group (p˂0.001). Regarding the choriocapillaris flow area, the values for area with a radius of 1 mm, 2 mm and 3 mm were significantly lower in the obsessive-compulsive disorder group than in the control group (p=0.019, p=0.014, and p=0.004, respectively). There was a significant negative correlation between subfoveal choroidal thickness and choriocapillaris flow area with a radius of 1mm (r=-0.387, p=0.024).

Thermal photodynamic disinfection procedures have been proposed for adjunctive endodontic treatment. This study assessed photothermal disinfection relative to root dentin temperature and the thermal effects of simulated periodontal blood flow.

Thirty freshly extracted human single-rooted teeth were prepared endodontically using a 45/.02 master apical file. The root surfaces were coated with wax and covered with thermoforming sheets, leaving a circumferential space of 0.25mm after wax removal. The sheets were perforated to allow fluid circulation through the simulated periodontal space. Irradiation was performed in two groups of 30 I, 810nm laser (1.5W, continuous wave), 4×5 s; II, photothermal group indocyanine green and 810nm laser (200mW, continuous wave), 20s. Thermographic measurements were performed at different water flow rates (6, 2.6, 0mL/min) with a baseline temperature of 37°C. Nonparametric statistical analysis was performed (Wilcoxon).

The highest temperature change (median 7.52°C, range 0.82-18.32°C) was with 810nm laser irradiation in group I, without any simulated blood flow. Fluid circulation resulted in a significant reduction in temperature changes in this group (median 2.14°C, range 0.37-9.83°C; p <0.05). The lowest temperature changes were in the photothermal group with a water flow rate of 6mL/min (median 0.79°C, range 0.00-3.88°C; p<0.05).

Although high-resolution structures of CALR exist, it has not yet been established how different regions and individual amino acid residues contribute to structural stability of the protein. We used a Saccharomyces cerevisiae expression system to express and purify 50 human CALR mutants, which were analysed for several parameters including secretion titer, melting temperature (Tm), stability and oligomeric state. Our results revealed the importance of a previously identified small patch of conserved surface residues, amino acids 166-187 ("cluster 2") for structural stability of the human CALR protein. Two residues, Tyr172 and Asp187, were critical for maintaining the native structure of the protein. Mutation experiments found that opening the roof of tunnel structure increased the hydrolysis efficiency of RmChiA, but the thermostability of the mutants decreased. Chitosan nanoparticles (CS-TPP NPs) were prepared by ionotropic gelation and their features were appropriate for use as oral delivery system. Therefore, pPDPimpdh was protected with chitosan Cgnificantly increased in fish vaccinated orally with CS-TPP+pPDPimpdh NPs at 11 dpc. These data indicate that oral vaccination with CS-TPP+pPDPimpdh NPs could be acting through the non-specific immune responses as well as the specific humoral and cell mediated immunity and provide the first step toward a development of an oral DNA nanovaccine against Phdp in sole.
