Limited information exists about the nature of late-onset asthma (LOA) without medication intervention when compared to early-onset asthma (EOA). https://www.selleckchem.com/ Our goal was to understand how EOA and LOA affect clinical and pathophysiological features.

A population-based cross-sectional study was carried out in Zhongshan Hospital (Shanghai, China). EOA and LOA were based on age of diagnosis (before and after age 40 years, respectively). Clinical variables were collected with an emphasis on allergic features, analyzed, related, and compared using one-way ANOVA or Kruskal-Wallis test. Correlations between blood basophils and clinical data were evaluated by Spearman's rank test. Statistical analyses were conducted with SPSS v24.0.

Of a total of 12,760 adults with cough, sputum, or chest tightness, 90 subjects with EOA (mean age ± standard deviation (SD)28.73 ± 5.89), 111 with LOA (mean age ± SD 60.25 ± 9.85), and 106 with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) (mean age ± SD 61.58 ± 10.95) were selected. FEV
/FVC eosinophils were significantly correlated owing to pathophysiological differences between the two forms of the disease.
LOA is a distinct clinical entity from EOA. In LOA, atopy was less frequent and spirometry values were lower when compared to EOA. In EOA, blood basophils and eosinophils were significantly correlated owing to pathophysiological differences between the two forms of the disease.
Asthma and sleep-related breathing disorders (SRBD) are common chronic respiratory diseases in children. The relationship between asthma and SRDB is bidirectional. However, only a few studies have analyzed the relationship between asthma control status and risk of SRBD. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between asthma control and SRBD and further assess the relationship between therapy/atopy/lung function of children with asthma and SRBD.

A total of 209 children aged 3-16 years were enrolled in this study. Pediatric sleep questionnaire (PSQ) scores were used to identify children at high risk of developing SRBD. Data on asthma control status, therapy, allergy, lung function, and exhaled nitric oxide were collected.

A significantly higher risk of SRBD was found among children with poorly controlled asthma (34.25% vs. 13.97%,
 < 0.01) and allergic rhinitis (AR) (34.29% vs. 13.92%,
 < 0.01) than among children with well-controlled asthma and AR. The prevalence of SRBD was also significantly higher in asthmatic children with obesity than that with just obesity (42.11% vs. 20.00%,
 < 0.05). Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that poorly controlled asthma (OR, 2.746 (95% CI, 1.215-6.209);
 < 0.05) and poorly controlled AR (OR, 3.284 (95% CI, 1.430-7.544);
 < 0.01) increased the odds of having SRBD.

Poorly controlled asthma and AR increase the risk of SRBD. A routine check of the level of asthma control and appropriate use of medication for AR are important because of their influence on SRBD.

This systematic review aimed to investigate the effect of different breathing exercises on respiratory muscle function, 6-minute walk test (6MWT), and quality of life (QoL) in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

We searched online databases including PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Ovid for randomized controlled trials that assessed the efficacy of breathing exercises on patients with COPD. Patient outcome parameters included changes in respiratory muscle function, 6MWT, and QoL. The Cochrane Collaboration tool was used to assess the risk of bias for each included study. Subgroup analyses concerning different interventions and outcome measurements were conducted as necessary. PROSPERO registration number is CRD42018118367.

A total of 17 studies were included for final analysis. Meta-analysis based on the relevant studies showed that breathing exercises had a significant total effect on pulmonary function PImax (mean difference (MD) = 8.65, 95% confidence interval (CI) 3.13-14.16,
=0.002), as well as 6MWT (MD = 27.70, 95% CI 5.45-49.94,
=0.01) in patients with COPD.

This systematic review summarized the use of breathing exercises for treating patients with COPD. Breathing exercises were found to be an effective tool for treating patients with COPD by improving inspiratory muscle strength and 6MWT. However, breathing exercises showed no significant improvements on the QoL of patients with COPD.

Intracranial aneurysm (IA) is a fatal disease owing to vascular rupture and subarachnoid hemorrhage. Much attention has been given to circular RNAs (circRNAs) because they may be potential biomarkers for many diseases, but their mechanism in the formation of IA remains unknown.

circRNA expression profile analysis of blood samples was conducted between patients with IA and controls. Overall, 235 differentially expressed circRNAs were confirmed between IA patients and the control group. The reliability of the microarray results was demonstrated by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR).

Of 235 differentially expressed genes, 150 were upregulated, while the other 85 were downregulated. Five miRNAs matched to every differential expression of circRNAs, and related MREs were predicted. We performed gene ontology (GO) analysis to identify the functions of their targeted genes, with the terms "Homophilic cell adhesion via plasma membrane adhesion molecules" and "Positive regulation of cellular process" showing the highest fold enrichment.

This study demonstrated the role of circRNA expression profiling in the formation of IA and revealed that the mTOR pathway can be a latent therapeutic strategy for IA.

Previous studies have controversial results about the prognostic role of soluble suppression of tumorigenicity 2 (sST2) in chronic kidney disease (CKD). Therefore, we conduct this meta-analysis to access the association between sST2 and all-cause mortality, cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality, and CVD events in patients with CKD.

The publication studies on the association of sST2 with all-cause mortality, CVD mortality, and CVD events from PubMed and Embase were searched through August 2020. We pooled the hazard ratio (HR) comparing high versus low levels of sST2 and subgroup analysis based on treatment, continent, and diabetes mellitus (DM) proportion, and sample size was also performed.

There were 15 eligible studies with 11,063 CKD patients that were included in our meta-analysis. Elevated level of sST2 was associated with increased risk of all-cause mortality (HR 2.05; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.51-2.78), CVD mortality (HR 1.68; 95% CI, 1.35-2.09), total CVD events (HR 1.88; 95% CI, 1.26-2.80), and HF (HR 1.35; 95% CI, 1.11-1.64). Subgroup analysis based on continent, DM percentage, and sample size showed that these factors did not influence the prognostic role of sST2 levels to all-cause mortality.

Our results show that high levels of sST2 could predict the all-cause mortality, CVD mortality, and CVD events in CKD patients.

DNA2 nuclease acts parallel to homologous recombination (HR). Here, we investigated the detailed clinical attribute of DNA2 in breast cancer and the role of DNA2 in breast cancer cells' growth. We found that elevated expression of DNA2 was obviously linked to poor prognosis in breast cancer. Further, DNA2 expression was increased in the ER-negative group, PR-negative group, HER2-positive group, and high-grade group via analyzing 2,509 breast cancers in "cBioportal" and 3,063 breast cancer data in "bc-GenExMiner." Besides, the immunohistochemical staining in 26 breast cancer tissues also showed that elevated expression of DNA2 was correlated with ER-/PR-/HER+. To further detect the role of DNA2 in breast cancer cells, we took GESA, GO, and KEGG analyses and found that DNA2 was enriched in cell cycle and DNA replication pathways. Furthermore, silencing of DNA2 inhibited cell growth in T47D and MD-MB-231 breast cancer cells and suppressed tumor growth in vivo, indicating DNA2 functioned importantly in breast cancer progression and maybe a potential prognostic marker in breast cancer. Our research reveals that DNA2 is a biomarker for diagnosis and prognosis in breast cancer from multiple perspectives and gives a new clue for further preclinical and clinical investigation.We investigated whether the personality of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) before subthalamic brain stimulation differed from patients receiving drug treatments and whether the personality of patients affected surgical decisions. We recruited 38 patients with advanced PD scheduled for deep brain stimulation (DBS), 40 patients with PD receiving the very best medical treatment, and 51 healthy control subjects. All participants were evaluated by the Minnesota multiphasic personality inventory-1 (MMPI-1). PD patients who were candidates for DBS did not exhibit any significant differences in personality when compared with PD patients who were treated with drugs. Compared with healthy controls, patients with PD had remarkably higher MMPI-1 scores for spiritual quality, neuroticism, and introversion, but significantly lower scores for socialization. In addition, patients with PD were more submissive, more dependent on others, and less active in social activities. Our data indicated that the main deciding factor relating to whether to undergo DBS was the disease itself and not the pathological personality. However, neurotic and psychotic symptoms accompanying PD may influence the effect of DBS. We found that greater benefit is obtained by surgical or medical interventions if abnormal neurotic characteristics are considered early in the course of PD.The phase stability of a 140GHz, 1kW pulsed gyro-amplifier system and the phase dependence on the cathode voltage were experimentally measured. To optimize the measurement precision, the amplifier was operated at 47 kV and 1 A, where the output power was ∼ 30W. The phase was determined to be stable both pulse-to-pulse and during each pulse, so far as the cathode voltage and electron beam current are constant. The phase variation with voltage was measured and found to be 130±30°/kV, in excellent agreement with simulations. The electron gun used in this device is non-adiabatic, resulting in a steep slope of the beam pitch factor with respect to cathode voltage. This was discovered to be the dominant factor in the phase dependence on voltage. The use of an adiabatic electron gun is predicted to yield a significantly smaller phase sensitivity to voltage, and thus a more phase-stable performance. To our knowledge, these are the first phase measurements reported for a gyro-amplifier operating at a frequency above W-band.
