A method for the microwave-assisted copper-mediated oxidative coupling reaction of different aldehydes and quinazolines/benzimidazoles has been developed for the synthesis of fused-polycyclic systems via new C-N bond formation. The current methodology involves the use of environmentally benign NH4OAc as the amine source in the presence of 2-propanol as the solvent. This novel tandem reaction approach offers a rapid and straightforward access to complex fused quinazoline derivatives in an efficient manner.4-Mercaptobenzoic acid (MBA) is introduced as a matrix for laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MS) analysis of metals, exhibiting matrix-interference-free background, greatly enhanced MS signal intensity, and excellent reproducibility. The developed method was successfully extended for the rapid screening and sensitive determination of ultratrace metals in fine particulate matter (PM2.5).Phlorizin is the main active ingredient of apple peel and has potential utilization value. Some recent studies have suggested that phlorizin may have antioxidant capacity and protect the liver. The injection of a low dose of d-galactose can cause some changes that resemble accelerated aging in mice. This study explored the protective effects of phlorizin on d-galactose-induced mice and PC12 cells. In this study, ICR mice were divided into a normal group (NOR), a d-galactose model group (d-gal) and phlorizin treatment groups (100 mg kg-1, 200 mg kg-1 and 400 mg kg-1). In addition to the NOR group, four other groups were injected with d-galactose (120 mg kg-1) for 12 weeks. The results showed that phlorizin reduced the decline of strength, coordination and spatial memory caused by aging, increased the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), increased total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), and reduced the content of malondialdehyde (MDA). On the other hand, phlorizin increased the levels of interleukin-2 (IL-2) and acetylcholine (ACh), reduced the release of interleukin-6 (IL-6), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and decreased the activity of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) in the brain, improved the expression of antioxidant genes related to the nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) pathway, and reduced the occurrence of morphological lesions in the hippocampus and liver. In addition, phlorizin improved cell viability and reduced the cytotoxicity of d-galactose-induced oxidative stress in PC12 cells. Meanwhile, the protective effect of phlorizin was abolished in Nrf2 gene knockdown PC12 cells. Furthermore, molecular docking showed that phlorizin could bind Keap1 protein, which can interact with Nrf2 protein. Therefore, these results suggest that phlorizin may delay senescence and enhance antioxidant capacity through the Nrf2 pathway. While occupational inhalation exposure to gaseous elemental mercury (GEM) has decreased in many workplaces as mercury is being removed from most products and processes, it continues to be a concern for those engaged in artisanal and small-scale gold mining or in recycling mercury-containing products. UNC5293 Recently, stationary and personal passive air samplers based on activated carbon sorbents and radial diffusive barriers have been shown to be suitable for measuring GEM concentrations across the range relevant for chronic health effects. Here, we used a combination of stationary and personal passive samplers to characterize the inhalation exposure to GEM of individuals living and working in two Ghanaian gold mining communities and working at a Norwegian e-waste recycling facility. Exposure concentrations ranging from 500 μg m-3 were observed, with the higher end of the range occurring in one gold mining community. Large differences in the GEM exposure averaged over the length of a workday between individuals can be rationalized by their activity and proximity to mercury sources. In each of the three settings, the measured exposure of the highest exposed individuals exceeded the highest concentration recorded with a stationary sampler, presumably because those individuals were engaged in an activity that generated or involved GEM vapors. High day-to-day variability in exposure for those who participated on more than one day, suggests the need for sampling over multiple days for reliable exposure characterization. Overall, a combination of personal and stationary passive sampling is a cost-effective approach that cannot only provide information on exposure levels relative to regulatory thresholds, but also can identify emission hotspots and therefore guide mitigation measures.Thermal quenching that is characterized by loss of light emission with increasing temperature is widely observed in luminescent materials including upconversion nanoparticles, causing problems in technological applications such as lighting, displays, and imaging. Because upconversion processes involve extensive intra-particle energy transfer that is temperature dependent, methods have been established to fight against thermal quenching in upconversion nanoparticles by engineering the energy transfer routes. In this minireview, we discuss the origin of thermal quenching and the role of energy transfer in thermal quenching. Accordingly, recent efforts in overcoming thermal quenching of upconversion are summarized.Thin-film transistors (TFTs) have been widely used in the increasingly advanced field of displays. However, it remains a challenge for TFTs to overcome the poor subthreshold swing in the fast switching and high-speed applications. Here, we provide a solution to the above-mentioned challenge via supercritical dehydroxylation, which combines a low temperature, environmentally friendly supercritical fluid technology with a CaCl2 treatment. An embedded structure of amorphous indium gallium zinc oxide (a-IGZO) TFTs with double-layer high-k dielectric containing Ta2O5 and SiO2 layers was first manufactured. The subthreshold swing of the fabricated TFTs treated with supercritical dehydroxylation was optimized to an ultra-low value of 72.7 mV dec-1. Moreover, other key figures of merits including threshold voltage, on/off ratio and field effect mobility all improved after the supercritical dehydroxylation. The bandgap of the gate dielectric material increased due to the supercritical dehydroxylation verified by the current conduction mechanism.
