Species abundance was measured in 1995, 1999, 2001 and 2013. Species composition changed significantly from original communities in the heath, but remained similar in mesic meadow. Experimental warming increased beta diversity in the heath. Bryophyte cover and species richness both declined with long-term warming, while Simpson diversity showed no significant responses. Over the 18-year period, bryophyte cover in warmed plots decreased from 43 % to 11 % in heath and from 68 % to 35 % in meadow (75 % and 48 % decline, respectively, in original cover), while richness declined by 39 % and 26 %, respectively. Importantly, the decline in cover and richness first emerged after 7 years. Warming caused significant increase in litter in both plant communities. Total bryophyte cover declined in both heath and mesic meadow under experimental long-term warming (by 1.5-3 °C), driven by general declines in many species. Principal response curve, cover and richness results suggested that bryophytes in alpine heath are more susceptible to warming than in meadow, supporting the suggestion that bryophytes may be less resistant in drier environments than in wetter habitats. Species loss was slower than the decline in bryophyte abundance, and diversity remained similar in both communities. Increased deciduous shrub and litter cover led to decline in bryophyte cover. However, there are no studies of a dormancy cline between levels of morphophysiological dormancy (MPD). We aimed to determine the class of seed dormancy of Narcissus yepesii exhibits in order to explore links between different dormancy levels, previously characterized in two closely related phylogenetic congeners, N. alcaracensis and N. longispathus. Experiments were carried out under both near-natural temperature and controlled laboratory conditions. The parameters calculated were mean embryo length, radicle and shoot emergence percentages. The effects of different periods of storage; and different periods with or without GA3 of warm, cold or warm plus cold were analysed. The Narcissus populations from the Baetic System of mountain ranges in south-eastern Spain show clinal variation in a northeast-southwest gradient from intermediate to non-deep complex MPD, through the coexistence of intermediate and non-deep complex MPD in N. yepesii (21 % and 74 %, respectively). In addition, 54 % of stored seeds were able to show both levels of MPD. Narcissus yepesii occupies an intermediate position between N. alcaracensis and N. longispathus in the geographical distribution and in the clinal germination ranges. It strongly suggests an evolutionary gradient, which connects the intermediate complex MPD with the non-deep complex MPD in southern Iberian daffodils. This is the first study showing a gradient in the evolution between levels of MPD. Our results demonstrate a cline in these levels in response to both an environmental gradient and genetic differences.The Malaysian state of Sabah on the Island of Borneo has recently emerged as a global hotspot of nickel hyperaccumulator plants. This study focuses on the tissue-level distribution of nickel and other physiologically relevant elements in hyperaccumulator plants with distinct phylogenetical affinities. The roots, old stems, young stems and leaves of Flacourtia kinabaluensis (Salicaceae), Actephila alanbakeri (Phyllanthaceae), Psychotria sarmentosa (Rubiaceae) and young stems and leaves of Glochidion brunneum (Phyllanthaceae) were studied using nuclear microprobe (micro-PIXE and micro-BS) analysis. The tissue-level distribution of nickel found in these species has the same overall pattern as in most other hyperaccumulator plants studied previously, with substantial enrichment in the epidermal cells and in the phloem. This study also revealed enrichment of potassium in the spongy and palisade mesophyll of the studied species. Calcium, chlorine, manganese and cobalt were found to be enriched in the phloem and also concentrated in the epidermis and cortex of the studied species. Whether pre-germinal center events are also required for transformation, and which additional events are required for disease progression is still matter of debate. As early treatment in asymptomatic phases is gaining traction in the clinic, a better understanding of the molecular pathogenesis of myeloma progression would allow stratification of patients based on their risk of progression, thus rationalizing efficacy and cost of clinical interventions. In this review, we will discuss the development of MM, from the cell of origin through asymptomatic stages such as monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance and smoldering MM, to the development of symptomatic disease. We will explain the genetic heterogeneity of MM, one of the major drivers of disease recurrence. In this context, moreover, we will propose how this knowledge may influence future diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.Meningioma-like dermal tumor with diffuse coexpression of CD34 and hcaldesmon is rarely reported. Herein, we report a case of a 58-years-old woman who complained of a solitary dome-shaped papule on the left hand. An ellipse of skin measuring 1 x 0.5 x 0.5 cm was excised and sent for histopathological evaluation. Upon sectioning, the specimen showed a whitish firm dermal nodule measuring 3 mm in its greatest dimension. Microscopic examination revealed a well-circumscribed barely encapsulated dermal lesion showing compact round whorled sheets formed of round to ovoid uniform cells with abundant pink cytoplasm. Occasional intranuclear vacuoles were seen. A minor capillary-sized vascular component was seen in the background. Immunohistochemical (IHC) study revealed a diffuse positivity of tumor cells to CD34 and h-caldesmon along with faint reaction to Smooth Muscle Actin (SMA) and ER. However, Desmin, S100, HMB45, EMA, Pan Cytokeratin, and Chromogranin were all negative. Ki67 was very low (1%). The main differential diagnoses of the current lesion are meningioma and glomus family tumors. While the current lesion is morphologically reminiscent of cutaneous meningioma; neither the location nor the IHC stains support that diagnosis. The glomus family is highly suggestive. The objective of the current study was to examine the burden, determinants, and impacts of Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) among a community sample of social media users in Saudi Arabia. The Internet-based cross-sectional study was conducted among social media users during January and February 2020. link3 BDD was assessed using a validated BDD Questionnaire. A total of 1010 participants were included in the current analysis. A total of 42 (4.2%) met the criteria of BDD, with higher prevalence in younger participants. The defects of high concerns were skin disfigurements (64.2%) and hair issues (42.3%). BDD was significantly associated with spending a longer time on Snapchat and Instagram and less interest in religious topics. BDD group was more likely to compare their appearance with famous people in social media. BDD group reported more harassment and more history of psychiatric problems. There is a need to educate the public about the risk of BDD and to promote safe social networking.In addition to the immediate casualties of armed conflicts, their indirect impact may bring even more damage by causing malfunctioning of health systems and impaired access to diagnosis and treatment. We conducted a population-based study, to assess the utilization rates of health services due to skin disorders, among civilians exposed to missile attacks and siren alarms during three military operations in Israel. The study was designed as a natural experiment, whereas periods of military operations were compared to the non-military times. During the military operations, when sirens and missiles were an everyday experience, the number of visits to dermatologists was 1.07-1.16 times lower [Relative Risk (RR)=0.86-0.92] as compared to the non-military periods, especially evident for patients residing closer to the military zone, where it dropped almost 2- folds (RR=0.52). Although perceived nonurgent in their majority, the routine care should not be delayed to prevent more serious skin conditions.
