The purpose of this study was threefold to explore the causal attributions of breast cancer, examine underlying factors of the attributes, and determine their relationship to quality of life among Korean breast cancer survivors.

The study used a descriptive correlational design, which included quantitative survey questionnaires and an open-ended question to complement the study. Three hundred and three breast cancer survivors were recruited from two university hospitals in South Korea, between January and April 2018. The causal attributions were explored using the Illness Perception Questionnaire Revised and an open-ended question. The survivors' quality of life was assessed using the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy for Breast Cancer. The quantitative analysis was performed using the SPSS 25.0 software package; the ATLAS.ti 8 software was used for thematic analysis.

Quantitative and qualitative data of 321 and 238 breast cancer survivors, respectively, were analyzed. "Stress and worry" and "diet or eating habits" were believed to be the two most likely causes of breast cancer. Eleven new causal attributes emerged from the analysis. Being diagnosed with breast cancer at an older age (p<.05), having received chemotherapy (p<.05), and holding nonbehavioral causal attributes (p<.001), were significantly related to lower quality of life.

There were differences between the survivors' beliefs on their causes of disease, and causal factors available from the literature. As the survivors' causal attributes were significantly related to their quality of life, healthcare providers should individually assess and incorporate these attributes into their care.

Species of the genus Vepris are used in traditional African pharmacopeia for the treatment of various conditions, including chronic diseases and other parasitic. Further uses are against whooping cough and colic in children and as an antidote against snakebite. Data presented will enable the interested scientists to work on this genus applying the so-called "ethnopharmacologic approach", which may lead towards the discovery of the effective, safe plant medicinal products.

This review article aims to collate and analyse the available information on the traditional uses, phytochemistry, pharmacology, and toxicological aspects of Vepris species in order to explore the trends and perspectives for further studies.

Platycodi radix is widely used in traditional herbal medicine for bronchitis, asthma, pulmonary tuberculosis, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes. However, data on safety of Platycodi radix are insufficient.

The present study was performed to evaluate the potential subchronic toxicity of Platycodi radix water extract through a 13-week repeated oral dose experiment in Sprague-Dawley rats.

Forty male and 40 female rats were randomly assigned to four experimental groups three treatment groups receiving 300, 1000, and 3000mg/kg/day of Platycodi radix water extract and a vehicle control group receiving sterile distilled water for 13 weeks.

Repeated oral administration of the Platycodi radix water extract to rats resulted in an increased incidence of centrilobular hepatocellular hypertrophy in the liver, diffuse follicular cell hypertrophy in the thyroid gland, and squamous hyperplasia of the limiting ridge in the stomach at dose levels of ≥500mg/kg/day of both genders. However, these findings are considered be adaptive non-adverse changes because these findings were observed without organ weight change or clinical pathology alterations. No treatment-related effects on clinical signs, body weight, food and water consumption, ophthalmic examination, urinalysis, hematology, serum biochemistry, necropsy findings, and organ weights were observed at any dose tested.

Propolis has been used in folk medicine to treat gastric disorders for centuries. However, although studies have been conducted to validate the gastroprotective and anti-ulcer activity of some types of propolis, red propolis activity remains unknown.

The present study aimed to evaluate the gastroprotective effect of the hydroalcoholic extract of red propolis (HERP), its mode of action, and the main compounds involved in its activity, therefore contributing to validate the chemical and pharmacological potential of this product.

The effect of HERP (30, 100 and 300mg/kg p.o. and 30mg/kg i.p.), and the isolated compounds vestitol (VS), neovestitol (NV), methylvestitol (MV), medicarpin (MD), and oblongifolin AB (OB) (10mg/kg p.o.) were evaluated on gastric ulcers induced by 60% ethanol/0.3M HCl (5mL/kg, p.o.) in mice. Histological changes and mucin levels were assessed by HE and PAS, respectively. Moreover, oxidative stress parameters and myeloperoxidase activity were analyzed on ulcerated tissue. The effectand MD may have an essential role in the activity of HERP. Our data contribute to validate the traditional use of propolis for gastric disorders.
