De Novo Polycomb Employment: Lessons via Latent Herpesviruses.
ARDS patients.
There is a negative association between the baseline eosinophils and short-term mortality in ARDS patients, and the differences in eosinophils increased over time between the survivors and non-survivors. Higher increase in eosinophils is associated with decreased short-term mortality, and dynamic monitoring of eosinophils could better predict the survival of ARDS patients.
The study aimed to determine the prevalence and risk factors of frailty among a Chinese cohort of hemodialysis patients and to assess the degree to which frailty was associated with all-cause mortality.

We enrolled a group of older adults (≥60 years old) in a prospective cohort study of cognitive impairment in Chinese patients undergoing hemodialysis (registered in Clinical Trials.gov, ID NCT03251573). We assessed the prevalence of frailty using Fried's definition in the Cardiovascular Health Study, then we evaluated the associated risk factors of frailty using multivariate logistic regression analysis. Finally, we assessed the association of frailty and all-cause mortality with multivariable Cox proportional hazard regression analyses.

The prevalence of frailty in these 204 enrolled hemodialysis patients was 72.1%. Patients with frailty were more inclined to have composite abnormal components that included poor physical functioning, exhaustion, low physical activity, and undernutrition. Multivariable lure studies should focus on exploring effective interventions aimed to prevent or attenuate frailty in the older hemodialysis population.
Frailty is extremely common and is associated with serious clinical outcomes among older hemodialysis patients. Based on those clinical features of frailty, future studies should focus on exploring effective interventions aimed to prevent or attenuate frailty in the older hemodialysis population.
In-hospital falls, especially among older patients, are a major and underestimated problem. Several studies have suggested a possible association between anticholinergic drug use and falls, but the results are inconclusive and studies focusing on in-hospital falls are scarce. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether anticholinergic drug exposure on admission is associated with in-hospital falls.

This retrospective chart review study was conducted in the Erasmus MC University Medical Center, Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Patients aged 65 years and older, who were acutely admitted to the geriatric ward between 2012 and 2015, were included. Anticholinergic drug exposure was determined with the Anticholinergic Risk Scale (ARS), the Anticholinergic Cognitive Burden scale (ACB) and the list of Chew. Logistic regression was used to investigate the possible association between anticholinergic drug exposure and in-hospital falls. Analyses were adjusted for age, sex, fall history, fall as reason for admission, number of drugs on admission, use of a mobility aid and delirium.

A total of 905 patients were included, of which 94 patients experienced one or more in-hospital falls. Each additional anticholinergic drug in use, according to the ARS, was associated with an increased odd of experiencing a fall (OR = 1.49, 95% CI 1.06-2.10). Other measures, ie anticholinergic drug use (yes/no) and different categories of anticholinergic drug burden, measured with the ARS, ACB and list of Chew, were all not associated with in-hospital falls.

Anticholinergic drug exposure on admission is possibly not a main risk factor for in-hospital falls among older patients.

Characterization of such underutilized crops has important implications for their utilization. Thus, this study was conducted to assess the genetic diversity of okra genotypes in Ethiopia using agromorphological and biochemical markers. Thirty-six okra genotypes were evaluated for 29 agromorphological and biochemical traits. The results of the analysis of variance showed significant differences among genotypes for most of the traits, except for the number of flower epicalyx and fruit diameter. Results of the principal component analysis indicated that the first eight principal component axes accounted for 3.83 to 30.54% and 82.44% of the total variability. Genetic distances estimated by Euclidean distances from 27 traits ranged from 3.55 to 14.49. The 36 genotypes were grouped into four distinct clusters from the Euclidean distance matrix using the unweighted pair group method with arithmetic mean (UPGMA). The first cluster contained 24 (66.66%) genotypes, and the second cluster contained 10 (27.77%) of the genotypes. This study showed the presence of considerable genetic variation among the genotypes for most of the traits, including fruit yield, seed yield, and nutrient content of seeds, indicating the possibility of using these genotypes to develop okra varieties with high fruit-yielding and good nutritional content.Mycobacterium kyorinense (M. kyorinense) was first reported in patients with pulmonary infection or lymphadenitis in 2009. To date, fewer than 20 cases of pulmonary or extra-pulmonary infections have been reported with the bacterium, and the clinical features remain unclear. We report a case of pulmonary M. kyorinense infection in a 45-year-old man who had a history of cavitary pulmonary tuberculosis seven years ago. The patient visited a hospital due to hemosputum and a prolonged productive cough. Chest computed tomography revealed large and thick-walled cavities, with surrounding parenchymal infiltration in the right upper and lower lung lobes. The microbiological diagnosis of M. kyorinense was based on positive culture results from multiple respiratory tract specimens. The patient's treatment started with antimycobacterial medicines, clarithromycin, moxifloxacin, and intravenous amikacin, in accordance with the drug susceptibility profile and previous case reports. The treatment stabilized the patient's symptoms and improved the thoracic imaging. In addition, the sputum culture was negative after the treatment. We reviewed the literature and summarized the clinical features of M. kyorinense infection in 18 patients. All patients with extrapulmonary infections were immunocompromised. In contrast, pulmonary infection occurred in immunocompetent patients who often had a predisposing lung disease. Cavitary lesions were observed at diagnosis only in patients with prior cystic or cavitary lung disease, including pulmonary tuberculosis. This study contributes to the body of case knowledge of M. kyorinense infection and summarizes the clinical features in the literature. Most parents consider private supplementary tutoring (PT) as an effective means of improving academic achievement. However, previous studies on this method have produced either partial or inconclusive results on its effectiveness. Thus, in the present study we conducted a comprehensive analysis of the learning of middle school students in China, with specific focus on the final year of middle school. The analysis was based on a specially designed longitudinal survey of private supplementary tutoring in mathematics. An analysis using hierarchical linear regression showed that regular private tutoring, throughout the school years, could have a minor effect on students' mathematical achievements by the final year of middle school. These results suggest that parents should make careful choices for their children's private tutoring, and the government must issue comprehensive, professional guidelines to regulate the private tutoring industry. Moreover, other countries could find major take-aways from the Chinese experience of private tutoring for enhancing students' mathematical performances. The impact of pre-transplant anti-severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccine in 20 recipients of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (Allo-HSCT) and/or their donors is reported here, showing that the persistence of anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies can be detected in almost all patients, whatever the type of vaccine used, and up to 9 months post transplant. Also, an anti-SARS-CoV-2 spike glycoprotein CD3+ T-cell response could be detected in six (35%) of 17 evaluable patients. This study provides a rationale to consider anti-SARS-CoV-2 vaccination of both recipients and donors before Allo-HSCT.
Propofol is a widely used intravenous anesthetic in clinical practice. Lidocaine pretreatment is currently the most commonly used methodto reduce the pain of propofol injection. However, propofol injection pain has not been eliminated and its incidence remains high. Transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation is a green therapy that combines transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation therapy with the traditional acupuncture therapy of our motherland. This study investigated the effectiveness of transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation (TEAS) combined with lidocaine in preventing propofol injection pain and determined whether it can reduce postoperative complications and promote rapid postoperative recovery of patients.

A total of 220 women scheduled to undergo hysteroscopic surgery were enrolled in the study. The included patients were randomly divided into four groups of 55 patients each normal saline group (group K), lidocaine group (group L), TEAS group (group T), and lidocaine + TEAS group (ausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, and abdominal distension, shorten postoperative bleeding days, and accelerate the postoperative recovery of patients.
TEAS combined with lidocaine pre-injection reduced the incidence of propofol injection pain and significantly reduced patients' pain levels compared with single lidocaine pre-injection. Zeocin cell line TEAS can also reduce the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, and abdominal distension, shorten postoperative bleeding days, and accelerate the postoperative recovery of patients.Service platform has developed rapidly in car-sharing, consumers often buy or own cars but not fully utilize and share them. Since the coronavirus pandemic has affected sales and people's attitudes towards car-sharing, which brought both opportunities and challenges to the platform and changed the operating mode of manufacturers, some traditional manufacturers have motivated to cooperate with third-party platform. In this paper, we develop an analytical framework to examine the pricing decisions and optimal mode selection of manufacturer under the COVID-19 epidemic. Considering the supply chain consists of a manufacturer and a third-party sharing platform. We analyze three scenarios including no sharing, customers-to-customers, and mixed sharing, then employ a game theoretic approach to get equilibrium solutions and analytically derive the optimal mode choice. Our analysis shows that when the operation and maintenance cost is low, manufacturer will join the third-party platform, and the sharing price increase in operation and maintenance cost, while the selling price decrease in operation and maintenance cost. When the value perception factor less than the threshold, the manufacturer will retain sales channel, and the selling demand decrease in value perception factor in the growing market, the sharing demand has the same trend, vice versa. Furthermore, we find that if the operation and maintenance cost is low and value perception factor is high, mixed sharing is the best choice for the manufacturer, while the manufacturer will choose no car-sharing when the value perception factor is relatively low.
