We aimed to investigate whether DuraSeal®(DS) has a potent adjunctive effect on delayed closure of gastric perforation comparing with 2-octly-cyanoacrylate(CYN) in an experimental model.

Sixty rats were randomly divided into 6 groups. All subjected to gastric perforation, subsequently perforation areas were repaired by primary suturing, delayed repair was performed 12 h after surgery. According to DS or CYN application on anastomosis, the groups were classified as control(C), delayed control(CD), closure with CYN(CYN), delayed closure with CYN(D-CYN), closure with DS(DS), delayed closure with DS(D-DS).After euthanization on POD 7,anastomotic bursting pressure(ABP) were measured. Tissue samples were taken for histopathological examination and hydroxyproline(TH) assessment.

A total of 34 patients with radiation-induced HC of grade 2-4 were treated with intravesical instillation of KFL combined with thrombin and EGF until the complete disappearance of hematuria and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). Gentamicin was added if white blood cells were detected and bacterial culture was positive in the urine. All patients were followed up for 2 years to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of the treatment regimen. Patients with and without recurrent hematuria (n = 3, 9% and n = 31, 91%, respectively) were completely recovered from hematuria and LUTS by intravesical instillation treatment for 6-22 days. No adverse event was reported during the treatment and the 2-year follow-up for all patients. Thus, intravesical instillation of KFL combined with thrombin and EGF is an effective and safe therapeutic regimen for radiation-induced HC of grade 2-4 in patients with cervical cancer.
Intratympanic dexamethasone is commonly conducted to treat refractory sudden sensorineural hearing loss (RSSNHL). However, no consensus has been reached on its effectiveness.

The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of otoendoscope-assisted salvage intratympanic dexamethasone treatment (IDT) on RSSNHL with different audiogram patterns after failure of initial therapy.

A total of 108 patients with unilateral RSSNHL were classified into 4 groups according to audiogram patterns. Hearing results were evaluated by pure-tone audiometry (PTA), which was performed at baseline and one month after otoendoscope-assisted salvage IDT. The effectiveness of otoendoscope-assisted salvage IDT was assessed in each group.

The efficiency in low-frequency, high-frequency, flat, and deaf group was 48%, 24.1%, 46.2%, 17.9%, respectively. The efficacy did not differ between the high-frequency and deaf group. Notably, the efficacy in the low-frequency and flat group was significantly higher than that in the deaf group.

Otoendoscope-assisted salvage IDT is a safe and effective treatment for RSSNHL. This treatment provided better results for patients with low-frequency damaged and flat curve audiogram than patients with other audiogram patterns.

Audiogram patterns should be considered in the clinical management of patients with RSSHNL prior to salvage IDT.

This study demonstrates that the concentrations of myeloperoxidase (MPO) in stool and intestinal fatty acid-binding protein (an indicator of compromised intestinal epithelial integrity) in serum, significantly increased following ETEC infection in both diarrhea and asymptomatic cases and the magnitudes and kinetics of MPO are dose and clinical outcome dependent. Cytokines IL-17A and IFN-γ were significantly increased in serum post-ETEC challenge. In addition, higher pre-challenge concentrations of cytokines IL-10 and GM-CSF were associated with protection from ETEC diarrhea. Interestingly, higher MPO concentrations were associated with higher intestinal colonization of ETEC and lower seroconversions of colonization factor I antigen, but the reverse was noted for seroconversions to heat-labile toxin B-subunit. Together this study has important implications for understanding the acute and long-term negative health outcomes associated with ETEC infection.
