Use of anticoagulation in patients on ECMO, especially in Chinese, has always been difficult. This study aimed to review the incidence of bleeding, thrombosis, and transfusion requirement in Chinese ECMO patients and to identify risk factors for bleeding complications.

This was a retrospective observational study of a tertiary hospital from 2010 to 2018. Patients aged ⩾18 years who received ECMO were included. The primary outcome was incidence of bleeding. Secondary outcomes included ICU mortality, hospital mortality, and length of the ICU and hospital stay.

Of the 130 patients, 55(42.3%) had at least one bleeding events and thrombosis occurred in 37(28.5%). A lower fibrinogen level (adjusted OR 0.56 (0.36-0.86),
 = 0.009), bloodstream infection (adjusted OR 2.76 (1.01-7.53),
 = 0.047) and longer duration on ECMO (adjusted OR 1.14 (1.02-1.27),
 = 0.018) were independently associated with occurrence of bleeding. APTT (adjusted OR 0.99 (0.97-1.01),
 = 0.370) and platelet count (adjusted OR 1.00 (0.98-1.01),
 = 0.632) were not statistically significant risk factors for bleeding events.

In the present study, efficient plant regeneration protocol and transformation method were developed for J. curcas. Because the regeneration efficiency of adventitious bud from cotyledon explants of J. curcas induced by traditional methods is low, and it takes a long time to get complete plants. It is necessary to establish a new regeneration system to improve regeneration efficiency. Purmorphamine Smoothened agonist Cotyledon explants were dipped into TDZ solution at different concentrations respectively for various times to obtain higher efficiency of adventitious bud regeneration. This new regeneration method was then applied to genetic transformation of J. curcas. Cotyledon explants were precultured for 1 day after treated with high concentration of Thidiazuron (TDZ) solution (20 mg/L for 40 min), followed by Agrobacterium tumefaciens infection. After co-cultured for 2 days, the explants were placed on the induction hormone-free media for bud regeneration and resistant screening. After 30 days, selected shoot buds were transferred onto elongation medium for 15 days. Young leaf sections of the regenerated shoots were used for PCR (Polymerase chain reaction) detection of the transgenic shoots. The PCR positive shoots were isolated and used for in vitro grafting. The intact plants were obtained within 20 days. GUS (β-Glucosidase) staining and Southern analysis confirmed the transformation events. Briefly, a transformation efficiency of 34.32% was achieved and an intact transgenic plant could be obtained within 65 days.
To describe steps related to intraoperative C-arm orientations that can be taken during preoperative planning of thoracic stent-graft repair to facilitate the deployment of EndoAnchors in the distal aortic arch.

Previous experience from transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) may be helpful in addressing issues with C-arm orientation. In TAVI, preoperative computed tomography (CT) images are routinely obtained to generate a patient-specific curve that represents a virtually complete rotation of the C-arm perpendicular to the annulus. The curve clearly demonstrates that each adjustment in cranial or caudal view needs parallax correction in the left or right anterior oblique direction to remain perpendicular, and vice versa. This experience can be translated to the preoperative planning of EndoAnchor use in the aortic arch. By placing markers along the circumference of the proximal landing zone of the preoperative CT scan, the required C-arm orientations can be determined for each marker.

Therefore, rapid detection of S. aureus infection is of great significance. In this study, a microfluidic platform was introduced to detect S. aureus by fluorescence labeling method and a self-made microfluidic chip, which has immune spheres were used to study the effect of capturing S. aureus. Through this experiment, we found that the platform can be used for microbial culture, and S. aureus antibody coated on the diameter of 50 ~ 90 μm microspheres for detection. On the premise of optimizing the sample flow rate and detection time, the bacterial detection was quantitatively monitored. Results showed that our platform can detect S. aureus at injection rate of 5 μL·min-1 reacted for 4 min and the detection limit of bacteria is 1.5 × 101 CFU/μL. However, the detection time of traditional method is 24 hs to 72 hs, and the operation is complex and cumbersome. These findings indicated that the microfluidic chip in this study is portable, sensitive, and accurate, laying a good foundation for further research on the application of rapid bacterial detection platform.Background Aortic stenosis-related mortality might vary across demographic subsets, regions, and states in the United States. Methods and Results We reviewed the death certificate data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Wide-Ranging OnLine Data for Epidemiologic Research database to examine aortic stenosis-related mortality trends from 2008 to 2018. Crude and age-adjusted mortality rates (AAMRs) per 100 000 people and annual percentage change with 95% CIs were calculated. Between 2008 and 2018, AAMR reduced from 12.7 to 11.5 (average annual percentage change, -1.0 [95% CI, -1.5 to -0.5]), because of an accelerated decline between 2015 and 2018 (annual percentage change, -4.4 [95% CI, -6.0 to -2.7]). Older (aged >85 years), male, and White patients had higher death rates than younger, female, and non-White patients, respectively. Although mortality reduction was similar across sexes, significant mortality reduction was limited to White patients only. The AAMRs were higher in rural than urban areas.
