This study aimed to characterize cytokine gene expression in the chicken peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) stimulated with purified TLR ligands and live probiotics. PBMC were isolated from the whole blood. PBMC were stimulated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS), CpG ODN, Pam3CSK4, Zymosan, galactooligosaccharides (GOS), Lactococcuslactis subsp. cremoris (L. lactis), and Saccharomyces cerevisiae at 42.5 °C and 5% CO2 for 3 h, 6 h, and 9 h. After each time-point, PBMC were harvested for RNA isolation. Relative gene expression was analyzed with RT-qPCR for cytokine genes (IL-1β, IL-2, IL-3, IL-4, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-12p40, and IFN-ɣ) and reference genes (ACTB and G6PDH). Genes were clustered into pro-inflammatory genes, Th1/Th2 genes, and Th1-regulators. The gene expression differed between treatments in IL1-β, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, and IL-12p40 (p less then 0.001). The genes IL-1β, IL-6, and IL-8 had the highest fold change of mRNA expression at 3 h in response to TLR ligands. L. lactis up-regulated the pro-inflammatory genes at the 6 h time-point. L. lactis did not activate the anti-inflammatory IL-10 gene, but activated IL-12p40 at 6 h. Hereby, L. lactis was proven to exert immunostimulatory properties in PBMC.Sleep problems are frequently associated with the principal diagnostic criteria for many mental disorders. Sickness absence is used as a predictor for morbidity and mortality, but besides the health status of an individual, sickness absence is influenced by demographic, socio-economic factors, and work environment factors. Conflicts at work are a common psychosocial risk factor that can affect sickness absence. The aim of the study was to investigate the association between different types of workplace conflict and self-reported medically certified sickness absence using cross-sectional survey data pooled from four periodic national surveys-Work conditions and risks in Latvia (2006-2018). The sample is representative of the working population of Latvia, as respondents were randomly drawn from different regions and industries. In total, the study sample (n = 8557) consisted of employees between 16 a (OR = 1.39, CI 1.27-1.52 and OR = 1.11, CI 1.01-1.23, respectively). Our findings suggest that tailored interventions at a company level for reducing workplace conflicts as risk factors of sickness absence are required. Orthohepevirus A is the most numerous species of the genus Orthohepevirus and consists of eight different HEV genotypes that can cause infection in humans. HEV is a pathogen transmitted via the fecal-oral route, most commonly by consuming fecally contaminated water. A particular danger is the HEV-1 genotype, which poses a very high risk of vertical transmission from the mother to the fetus. Several outbreaks caused by this genotype have been reported, resulting in many premature births, abortions, and also neonatal and maternal deaths. The use of several nutritional and medicinal products, including antibiotics, is crucial for efficient and safe poultry production. Accumulation of drug residues in meat and eggs from inappropriate drug use is a major concern to public health. Recently, enrofloxacin was detected (2.4-3.8 ppb) in edible eggs produced in Jeju Island, Korea. Although the farm from which the enrofloxacin-contaminated eggs were collected did not use enrofloxacin-containing products, they reported extensive use of a nutritional product (NPJ). Accordingly, in this study, we investigated whether enrofloxacin contamination had occurred accidentally in various widely used veterinary pharmaceutical products. Enrofloxacin content (4.57-179.08 ppm) in different lots of the NPJ was confirmed by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) analysis. Furthermore, 76 veterinary pharmaceutical products that are widely used in poultry farms in Korea and claim to not contain enrofloxacin were collected and analyzed by LC-MS/MS. Among them, a florfenicol product and a sulfatrimethoprime product were found to contain 3.00 and 0.57 ppm enrofloxacin, respectively.
