Aims of the present study were to investigate a wide array of psychological symptoms through validated psychometric tests, before and after 5 weeks of deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (dTMS) in individuals with obesity, and to identify possible relationships with neuroendocrine parameters.

Forty-five patients with obesity (33 F, 12 M; age 48.8 ± 9.9 years; body wt 97.6 ± 14.2 Kg; BMI 36.2 ± 4.2) were randomized into two groups 26 received high frequency (HF) dTMS and 19 Sham stimulation for 5 weeks. At baseline and after the 5-week treatment, all patients underwent the following psychometric evaluations Food Cravings Questionnaire-Trait (FCQ-T) and its subscales, Barratt Impulsiveness Scale-11 (BIS-11), State and Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-y1 and STAI-y2), and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). Hormonal and neuroendocrine markers were assessed at the first and last dTMS session.

By adjusting for baseline variables and treatment arms, a significant decrease in body wt and BMI was found in HF grouplating neuroendocrine system, especially leptin.
Sodium chloride (NaCl) 23.4% solution has been shown to reduce intracranial pressure (ICP) and reverse transtentorial herniation. A limitation of 23.4% NaCl is its high osmolarity (8008mOsm/l) and the concern for tissue injury or necrosis following extravasation when administered via peripheral venous access. The use of this agent is therefore often limited to central venous or intraosseous routes of administration. Our objective was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of administration of 23.4% NaCl via peripheral venous access compared with administration via central venous access.

We reviewed pharmacy records to identify all administrations of 23.4% NaCl at our institution between December 2017 and February 2020. Medical records were then reviewed to identify complications, such as extravasation, soft tissue injury or necrosis, hypotension (mean arterial pressure less than 65mm Hg), pulmonary edema, hemolysis, and osmotic demyelination. We also compared the change in physiological variables, such as ICripheral venous administration of 23.4% NaCl is safe and achieves a reduction in ICP equivalent to that achieved by administration via central venous access.Cadmium (Cd), a heavy metal element, cumulates in the testis and can cause male reproductive toxicity. Although vitamin E (VE) as one of potential antioxidants protects the testis against toxicity of Cd, the underlying mechanism remained uncompleted clear. The aim of this study was to investigate whether the Nrf-2 pathway is involved with the protective effect of VE on testicular damages caused by sub-chronic Cd exposure. Thirty-two SD rats were divided into four groups and orally administrated with VE and/or Cd for 28 consecutive days control group, VE group (100 mg VE/kg), Cd group (5 mg CdCl2/kg), and VE + Cd group (100 mg VE/kg + 5 mg CdCl2/kg). The results showed that 28-day exposure of Cd caused accumulation of Cd, histopathological lesions, and alternations of sperm parameters (elevated rate of abnormal sperm, decreased count of sperm, declined motility, and viability of sperm). Moreover, the rats exposed to Cd showed significant oxidative stress (increased contents of MDA and decreased levels or activities of T-AOC, GSH, CAT, SOD and GSH-Px) and inhibition of Nrf-2 signaling pathway (downregulation of Nrf-2, HO-1, NQO-1, GCLC, GCLM and GST) of the testes. In contrast, VE treatment significantly reduced the Cd accumulation, alleviated histopathological lesions and dysfunctions, activated Nrf-2 pathway, and attenuated the oxidative stress caused by Cd in the testes of rats. In conclusion, VE, through upregulating Nrf-2 pathway, could protect testis against oxidative damages induced by sub-chronic Cd exposure.
Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) is an effective treatment method for refractory glaucoma (RG), however, additional surgical interventions may be required over the course of follow-up due to complications. Our aim is to investigate the causes, types, and outcomes of revisional surgical interventions apart from revisions aiming IOP control, following AGV implantation in patients with RG.

The pre- and postoperative month 1-3-6-12 and last visit examination findings of the patients who underwent various surgical revisions of AGV between January 2015 and April 2018 in our clinic were recorded, as well as the interval between AGV implantation-revision surgery and the presence of any other complications necessitating additional surgery. The success criteria were defined on the basis of need for additional procedures.

Twenty-six eyes of 24 patients were included. The follow-up time and the interval between AGV implantation-surgical revisions were median 12 (6-92) and median 9.7 (1-72) months, respectively. The most common complication requiring revision was tube exposure in 15 (57.7%) followed by tube malposition in 11 (42.3%) eyes. Further interventions were required only in one eye with recurrent exposure.

AGV implantation has early and late tube-related complications necessitating revisional surgical interventions; which makes it important to have extended follow-up period for patients with AGV implants. Revisional interventions for AGV implants with tube-related complications are efficient procedures for the majority of patients, but recurrence may occur requiring additional revisions.

The pathogenesis of ocular surface squamous neoplasia is not fully understood. Therefore, we evaluated the role of oncogenic viruses in the pathogenesis of ocular surface squamous neoplasia in Israel.

Patients with ocular surface squamous neoplasia were enrolled in this retrospective study. The specimens were taken during 2004-2015 from two big centers Emek Medical Center, Afula and the Hadassah Medical Center, Jerusalem. All the specimens (totally 26) were analyzed by immunohistochemistry for evidence of oncogenic viruses that included Human Papilloma virus, Herpes Simplex virus and Cytomegalovirus infection and 14 samples were examined by polymerase chain reaction. In addition, all the samples were examined for Epstein Barr virus infection by immunohistochemistry and Epstein Barr encoding region test.

Twenty-six patients were included with a mean age of 61.81 [Formula see text] 3.83years (mean [Formula see text]. Immunohistochemistry staining and Epstein Barr encoding region test did not detect any of the oncogenic viruses in the 26 samples. Human Papilloma virus-16 and -18, and Herpes Simplex virus were detected by polymerase chain reaction in 14.2%, 7% and 7%, respectively.

We conclude from our study that oncogenic viruses may play a role in the pathogenesis of ocular surface squamous neoplasia in Israel.

To track changes in the morphology of hyperemic blebs in eyes undergone trabeculectomy with mitomycin C 0.02% (MMC) after triamcinolone acetonide (TA) injection.

A total of 30 eyes of 30 patients with localized or diffuse hyperemia after trabeculectomy with MMC were enrolled in this prospective interventional case series. Two milligrams of TA were injected at the site of maximal injection. Bleb morphology was graded using Indiana Bleb Appearance Grading Scale (IBAGS), and the Moorfields Bleb Grading System (MBGS) 1week, 1month, 3months, 6months, and 1year after injection. Failure was defined as intraocular pressure (IOP) more than predefined target IOP for each eye, need for an additional surgical procedure, IOP less than 6mmHg, and loss of Light Perception (LP) vision.

A total of 27 patients completed a 1-year follow-up period and were included in the final analysis. The mean time interval from trabeculectomy to injection of TA was 5.98 ± 2.57weeks. The bleb height and vascularity in the IBAGS system decreased significantly after the intervention (p < 0.05), with an increase in bleb extension (p = 0.006). Using MBGS, the bleb area did not change significantly following TA injection (p = 0.056) but its height and vascularity significantly decreased in both central and peripheral areas and the surrounding conjunctiva (p = 0.032). The development of a mature cataract was the only complication that could be attributed to TA injection.

Injection of TA in hyperemic failing blebs improves bleb morphology by decreasing vascularity and height while increasing the extent with an acceptable safety profile.

The purpose of this study is to report the clinical manifestations and treatment outcomes in three patients diagnosed with vasoproliferative tumors (VPTs).

A retrospective, single-center case series was conducted, and retinal findings from three cases were documented by clinical examination and multimodal imaging.

Three patients presented with an elevated, yellow-white retinal lesion located at the peripheral retina and extensive retinal exudation. All three patients were closely monitored, and tumor-associated features included lipid exudates, cystoid macular edema (CMO), pre-retinal fibrosis and epi-retinal membrane (ERM). Clinical management relied on observation, cryotherapy, laser photocoagulation, intravitreal steroids and anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) treatment. Despite different clinical courses, two patients underwent vitreo-retinal surgery to address VPT-related complications of macular hole and vitreo-macular traction, whereas a patient underwent phacoemulsification to ties show that pars plana vitrectomy is sometimes the most appropriate choice to restore visual acuity.
The ER or donut-like structures localized aquaporin NIP5;1, which interacts with PIPs and alters their localization from plasma membrane to donut-like structures, regulates water permeability. NOD26-like intrinsic proteins (NIPs) play important roles in nutrient uptake and response to various stresses. However, there have been few studies of their functions in water transportation in citrus. Here, we demonstrate the functions of a novel citrus NIP aquaporin (CsNIP5;1) via multiple physiological and biochemical experiments. CsNIP5;1 showed high water permeability when expressed in Xenopus laevis oocytes and yeast. However, subcellular localization assays showed that this protein was localized in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) or donut-like structures in citrus callus and tobacco leaf. Meanwhile, overexpression of CsNIP5;1 led to a reduction in the water permeability of citrus callus. selleck inhibitor Protein-protein interaction experiments and subcellular localization assays further revealed that CsNIP5;1 physically interacted with PIPs (CsPIP1;1 and AtPIP2;1), which altered their subcellular localization from the plasma membrane to donut-like structures.
