Benefits associated with β-escin upon muscles regrowth within rat type of bone muscle tissue damage.
Photoperiod (day-length) has enduring effects on an organism's physiological functions like metabolism and behavioral phenotypes including cognition and affect. Circadian rhythm manipulations are potentially effective non-pharmacological strategies in the management of central nervous system insults. In our previous study, we demonstrated the efficacy of short photoperiod regime (SPR; 06/18 hr light-dark cycle) in establishing functional recovery in ventral subicular lesion (VSL) rats. The present study further demonstrates the efficacy of SPR in mitigating anxiety and depression as well as facilitating socio-cognitive behavior in VSL rats. VSL elevated the basal plasma corticosterone levels, increased anxiety, anhedonia, and behavioral despair with decreased self-care. The VSL rats also exhibited a considerable degree of impaired social cognition, in terms of altered social preference and social novelty. Exposure to SPR for 21 days mitigated the anxiety- and depressive-like phenotypes as well as improved social cognition significantly. Thus, the study demonstrated the effectiveness of SPR strategy in reversing most of the behavioral deficits caused by VSL. SPR, perhaps, would have regulated the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal axis responsiveness as we observed a decrease in plasma corticosterone levels following SPR in VSL rats. The study implies the need for developing a task-dependent SPR strategy to achieve complete behavioral recovery as the functional demands of each behavior is distinct. In summary, the study highlights the efficacy of photoperiod manipulation as a novel, non-pharmacological approach in mitigating the affective and cognitive deficits associated with neuropsychiatric disorders such as bipolar disorder and Alzheimer's disease wherein circadian rhythm alterations are implicated. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.OBJECTIVES To investigate prenatal imaging findings supporting a diagnosis of suspected septo-optic dysplasia (SOD) by fetal ultrasound (US), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or both. METHODS A retrospective review identified 11 patients with SOD 9 had a clinical diagnosis of SOD postnatally, and 2 were terminated on the basis of suspicious prenatal imaging. Prenatal and neonatal imaging of the cavum septi pellucidi (CSP), frontal horns (FHs), and lateral ventricles was evaluated. RESULTS The appearance of the CSP varied on US and MRI. Complete ("fused") FHs or partial absence of the CSP was reported in 6 of 11 patients by fetal US and 7 of 8 patients by fetal MRI. The diagnosis of SOD was prospectively suspected prenatally in 6 of 11 and in an additional 5 of 11 cases retrospectively. Fetal MRI incorrectly initially reported normal morphologic abnormalities for 2 cases with partial absence of the CSP, whereas US accurately identified the morphologic abnormalities in 1 of these cases before MRI. Imaging features were first suggested at anatomic US (4 patients) and follow-up prenatal US (2 patients). Neonatal imaging was concordant in all 9 live births 5 completely absent CSP, 3 partially absent CSP, and 1 completely present CSP. Clinical manifestations included optic nerve hypoplasia (9 of 9), panhypopituitarism (5 of 9), and neurodevelopmental delays. CONCLUSIONS Primary imaging features of SOD are "continuous" FHs with complete or partial absence of the CSP. Septo-optic dysplasia can be suspected in utero and can appear isolated but has substantial associated central nervous system anomalies identified on fetal MRI or after birth. Partial absence of the CSP can be a prenatal sign of suspected SOD, although fetal MRI lacked the spatial resolution to identify it accurately in all cases. © 2020 by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.BACKGROUND CircRNAs have been found to play crucial roles in multiple tumor including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Here, we researched the correlation between circRNA_103762 and chemotherapy resistance. METHODS RT-PCR assay was performed to detect circRNA_103762 and DNA damage inducible transcript 3 (CHOP) expression. CCK8 assay was performed to examine cell proliferation and IC50 of different drug. Migration and invasion assay was used to detect cell migration and invasion. buy Trichostatin A RESULTS In our study, circRNA_103762 expression was upregulated in NSCLC tissues and cell. Knockdown of circRNA_103762 can inhibited cell proliferation, migration and invasion in NSCLC. In addition, downregulation of circRNA_103762 promoted CHOP expression and inhibited multidrug resistance (MDR) in NSCLC. CONCLUSION Together, we demonstrated that circRNA_103762 is upregulated in NSCLC and functions as an oncogene in NSCLC, and circRNA_103762 enhanced MDR by inhibited CHOP expression in NSCLC cells. These results will help us understand the MDR of NSCLC, providing better effective therapy strategies for patients. © 2020 The Authors. MATERIALS AND METHODS A Delphi process was used to perform the content validity of the DC/TMD Axis I. One hundred eighty-nine 7- to 11-year-old children were assessed with the adapted instrument. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used to investigate construct validity of the DC/TMD for children. A baseline one-factor model was compared against a two-factor (Model 2) and a seven-factor (Model 3) models based on the original DC/TMD. Root mean squared error of approximation (RMSEA), comparative fit index (CFI), chi-square, change in chi-square and Cronbach's α were used to analyse the data. All analyses were performed in STATA© version 13.0. RESULTS Items of the DC/TMD were reduced, "history time" was changed to 2 weeks, pain intensity was assessed through a face scale, and language was adapted to be better understood by children. The amount of muscle pressure was maintained as in the original DC/TMD Axis I. The CFA led to a two- and a seven-factor model, with good fit. The internal consistency of Model 2 was .91 and of Model 3, .94. CONCLUSION The results of this study provide evidence to support a seven-factor representation of the DC/TMD Axis I for 7- to 11-year-old children, as well as a two-factor structure. Such findings will begin to provide researchers with confidence in the properties of this instrument when considering its inclusion in clinical research. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.BACKGROUND Infantile hemangiomas (IHs) involving the lip are of special concern because of the susceptibility of complications, including ulceration, obstruction and disfigurement. The available data for the relationship between their clinical characteristics and ulcerations are limited. OBJECTIVES To describe the clinical characteristics of lip IHs and to evaluate the main risk factors for ulceration. METHODS A retrospective study was designed that included infants with lip IHs during an 8-year period, the clinical data of participants were collected, and univariable and multivariable logistic models were used to determine the relationships between the clinical characteristics of lip IHs and ulcerations. Location, size and type were investigated as potential independent factors influencing the development of ulceration. RESULTS A total of 69 lip IHs were identified including 40 girls and 29 boys. Ulcerations were found in 37(53.6%) lip IHs. Lip hemangiomas experiencing ulceration had a mean size(SD) of 3.49(2.82)cm2 compared with 1.08(0.96)cm2 for those without ulceration. Twenty-eight (52.8%) of the 53 localized hemangiomas and 9 (56.3%) of the 16 segmental hemangiomas experienced ulcerations. Univariable analyses of all investigated factors revealed significant associations of location and size with increased risk of ulceration, and these significant associations remained after adjusting for sex and age[OR8.61(95% CI, 2.24-33.13) and2.62(95% CI, 1.46-4.72), respectively]. The duration before ulceration was between 4 and 70 days after the occurrence of lip IHs, with a median of 28 (19,41) days. Most ulcers occurred within 45 days of IH occurrence. CONCLUSIONS Ulceration is a common complication of lip IHs at an earlier stage. A swollen with pale or bright crimson appearance of the lip IH surface could be an important signal of subsequent ulceration. Location of the IH on the lower lip and lip IH size are risk factors for the occurrence of ulceration. This article is protected by copyright. A wide variety of lesions, including malignant and benign tumors, may develop around the orbit; hemangioma, lymphangioma, and optic nerve meningioma are the most common. Counseling for the prognosis and postnatal treatment depends on antenatal suspicion. Glial heterotopia should also be considered for the differential diagnosis. Integration of antenatal ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging characteristics could help in the differential diagnosis. For the first time to our knowledge, a literature review on fetal orbital tumors was performed, along with a systematic description of imaging characteristics, treatment, and the prognosis. © 2020 by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.BACKGROUND Classical organic acidemias (OAs) result from defective mitochondrial catabolism of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs). Abnormal mitochondrial function relates to oxidative stress, ectopic lipids and insulin resistance (IR). We investigated whether genetically impaired function of mitochondrial BCAA catabolism associates with cardiometabolic risk factors, altered liver and muscle energy metabolism, and IR. PATIENTS AND METHODS In this case-control study, 31 children and young adults with propionic acidemia (PA), methylmalonic acidemia (MMA) or isovaleric acidemia (IVA) were compared with 30 healthy young humans using comprehensive metabolic phenotyping including in vivo 31 P/1 H magnetic resonance spectroscopy of liver and skeletal muscle. RESULTS Among all OAs, patients with PA exhibited abdominal adiposity, IR, fasting hyperglycemia and hypertriglyceridemia as well as increased liver fat accumulation, despite dietary energy intake within recommendations for age and sex. In contrast, patients with MMA more frequently featured higher energy intake than recommended and had a different phenotype including hepatomegaly and mildly lower skeletal muscle ATP content. In skeletal muscle of patients with PA, slightly lower inorganic phosphate levels were found. However, hepatic ATP and inorganic phosphate concentrations were not different between all OA patients and controls. In patients with IVA, no abnormalities were detected. CONCLUSIONS Impaired BCAA catabolism in PA, but not in MMA or IVA, was associated with a previously unrecognized, metabolic syndrome-like phenotype with abdominal adiposity potentially resulting from ectopic lipid storage. These findings suggest the need for early cardiometabolic risk factor screening in PA. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. Several papers have considered the effectiveness of eosinophils and immunoglobulin A (IgA) in goats but differences in the induction of responses have not been studied in the same detail. The aim of this study was to look at the induction of eosinophil and IgA responses in Boer goats reared indoors under intensive conditions. METHODS AND RESULTS The goats were experimentally infected with a low dose of 2400 Haemonchus contortus, Trichostrongylus spp. and Oesophagostomum spp. at a 611 ratio. Faecal egg counts (FEC), packed cell volume (PCV), IgA activity against third-stage larvae and peripheral eosinophilia were measured twice a week for eight weeks. The infection generated an IgA response but did not significantly increase peripheral eosinophilia in the 25 infected kids compared with the 4 control animals. FEC was not associated with IgA activity or eosinophilia.
