Our findings suggest that clinicians should be alerted to the adverse outcomes of antibiotic use in infants with VLBWs.The focus of this research was to understand the effects of formulation and processing variables on the very-rapidly dissolving printlets of isoniazid (INH) manufactured by the selective laser sintering (SLS) three-dimensional (3D) printing method, and to characterize their physicochemical properties, stability, and pharmacokinetics. Fifteen printlet formulations were manufactured by varying the laser scanning speed (400-500 mm/s, X1), surface temperature (100-110 °C, X2), and croscarmellose sodium (CCS, %, X3), and the responses measured were weight (Y1), hardness (Y2), disintegration time (DT, Y3), and dissolution (Y4). Laser scanning was the most important processing factor affecting the responses. DT was very rapid (≥3 s), and dissolution (>99%) was completed within 3 min. The root-mean-square error in the studied responses was low and analysis of variance (ANOVA) was statistically significant (p less then 0.05). X-ray micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) images showed very porous structures with 24.6-34.4% porosity. X-ray powder diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry data indicated partial conversion of the crystalline drug into an amorphous form. The printlets were stable at 40 °C/75% RH with no significant changes in assay and dissolution. Pharmacokinetic profiles of the printlets and compressed tablets were superimposable. The U.S. FDA has approved three monoclonal antibody drugs, and there are numerous candidates in the preclinical or clinical trial stages. This article reviews recent advances in the research and development of anti-bacterial monoclonal antibody drugs in order to provide a valuable reference for future studies in this area. Interestingly, some representatives are also shown to import peptide-based antifungals in certain Candida species. Thus, the identification and characterization of PTR transporters serve as an essential first step for their potential usage as antifungal peptide uptake systems. Herein, we present a genome-wide inventory of the PTR transporters in five prominent Candida species. Our study identifies 2 PTR transporters each in C. albicans and C. dubliniensis, 1 in C. glabrata, 4 in C. parapsilosis, and 3 in C. auris. Medical compression stockings (MCS) are indicated for chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) of all stages and are an indispensable component in lymphedema therapy. In all, 8% of the German population has been prescribed MCS by a physician-more women than men (12% vs. 5%), and especially persons aged 60 years and older (17%). Patient adherence is relevant for successful treatment with MCS. We examined MCS use from the patient's perspective.

This study examined the quality of care through structured interviews with 414 representative users in 2019. Findings are discussed taking into consideration scientific evidence on the efficacy of MCS.

Venous conditions are the most common reason for prescription (44%), followed by lymphedema (22%) or multiple indications (27%). Patients generally wear MCS daily and on average 11 h/day. In all, 89% of patients were satisfied or very satisfied with MCS, whereby efficacy was dependent on the indication. This reflects the extensive scientific evidence on the clinical efficacy of MCS. An important factor for patient adherence is physician training and education.

In particular, short- and long-term effects, the safety profile and the patient's concomitant diseases represent key factors for shared decision-making with regard to select the optimum personalized therapy option.
Patients with diabetes have a relatively high risk of fracture due to osteoporosis. However, the risk of osteoporosis associated with the use of oral hypoglycemic drugs and dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor (DPP-4i) by patients with diabetes is unclear. This study aimed to explore the effect of DPP-4i on the risk of osteoporosis in Taiwanese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

This study enrolled 6339 patients on DPP-4i (DPP-4i group) and 25 356 patients without DPP-4i (non-DPP-4i group). They were matched by 14 propensity score matching, using confounding variables including sex, age, comorbidities, medication, and index year. Cox proportional hazards analysis was used to compare hospitalization and mortality during an average follow-up period of 7 years.

The mean age of patients in the two groups was 66 years. Men were slightly higher in number (51.79%) than women. We investigated prospectively among community-dwelling older adults aged 65 years and older whether a larger kyphosis angle is associated with poorer physical performance (balance, muscle strength, or both), and whether this association is unidirectional.

Male and female participants performed a multicomponent physical performance test with subscores for gait, muscle strength, and balance at baseline and after 2 years. Hand grip strength was also measured at baseline and at follow-up. The Cobb angle was measured on DXA-based Vertebral Fracture Assessments, made at the baseline and follow-up visit. Through linear and logistic regression analysis, we investigated the association between the kyphosis angle and physical performance and vice versa. We stratified for sex, and tested for effect modification by age and study center.

The mean kyphosis angle was 37° and 15% of the participants (n = 1 220, mean age 72.9 ± 5.7 years) had hyperkyphosis (Cobb angle ≥50°). A larger kyphosis angle at baseline was indepis angle, thereby potentially preserving physical performance.
Late capsular blockage syndrome (CBS) is a rare phenomenon which is found after cataract surgery. The mechanism, anterior segment optical coherence tomography (OCT) presentation, and clinical characteristics are not well studied.

We studied patients who developed late CBS in Taipei Veterans General Hospital from 2012 to 2019. Age, sex, systemic disease, ocular disease, interval between cataract surgery and CBS, axial length, type of intraocular lens implanted, grading of posterior capsular opacity, refraction, visual acuity, and anterior segment OCT findings were documented. Patients are categorized into two groups according to anterior segment OCT findings. NGI-1 All patients underwent NdYAG laser capsulotomy and were prescribed a low-dose topical steroid for 7 days. Postcapsulotomy refraction and visual acuity were recorded. All the clinical data were compared in the two groups.

This study included 18 eyes with late CBS. Patients' median age was 80 (range, 54-92) years. The mean duration between cataract surgery and CBS diagnosis was 80.
