Additionally, when a dielectric layer is added to the triboelectric material, the enhanced TENG output is related to the volume conductivity of the triboelectric material, but not to its electronegativity or surface structure. Finally, the optimized TENG developed in this work demonstrates energy harvesting capabilities and can function as a self-powered sensor applied in an intelligent housing system and as an emergency fall detection/alert system for the elderly and the sick.Bioinspired hydrogels have promising prospects in applications such as wearable devices, human health monitoring equipment, and soft robots due to their multifunctional sensing properties resembling natural skin. However, the preparation of intelligent hydrogels that provide feedback on multiple electronic signals simultaneously, such as human skin receptors, when stimulated by external contact pressure remains a substantial challenge. In this study, we designed a bioinspired hydrogel with multiple conductive capabilities by incorporating carbon nanotubes into a chelate of calcium ions with polyacrylic acid and sodium alginate. The bioinspired hydrogel consolidates self-healing ability, stretchability, 3D printability, and multiple conductivities. It can be fabricated as an integrated strain sensor with simultaneous piezoresistive and piezocapacitive performances, exhibiting sensitive (gauge factor of 6.29 in resistance mode and 1.25 kPa-1 in capacitance mode) responses to subtle pressure changes in the human body, such as finger flexion, knee flexion, and respiration. Furthermore, the bioinspired strain sensor sensitively and discriminatively recognizes the signatures written on it. Hence, we expect our ideas to provide inspiration for studies exploring the use of advanced hydrogels in multifunctional skin-like smart wearable devices.

Financial distress is a persistent problem in U.S. hospitals, leading them to close at an alarming rate over the past two decades. Given the potential adverse effects of hospital closures on healthcare access and public health, interest is growing in understanding more about the financial health of U.S. hospitals. In this study, we set out to explore the extent to which relevant organizational and environmental factors potentially buffer financially distressed hospitals from closure, and even at the brink of closure, enable some to merge with other hospitals. We tested our hypotheses by first examining how factors such as slack resources, environmental munificence, and environmental complexity affect the likelihood of survival versus closing or merging with other organizations. More than 600 Catholic hospitals operating in the United States face pressures for efficiency and effectiveness as well as compliance with demands of the Roman Catholic Church. They have responded to the pressures in various ways that have led to mixed models of organizational ownership and management. The purpose of this study was to describe and analyze the status of Catholic hospital ownership and management, especially the strategic and structural features of the parent health systems. Longitudinal data (2008-2017) were acquired and analyzed using repeated-measures analysis. Descriptive statistics were prepared using cross-sectional matched pairing for 2008 and 2017 data. Of 4,253 hospitals studied, 534 changed ownership or management. More Catholic Church-operated hospitals, regardless of type of ownership (for-profit, not-for-profit, church), became decentralized to a greater degree over the 8-year period and took on more attributes of non-Catholic hospitals.The 21st century Catholic hospital is more likely to be partnered with a non-Catholic hospital or to be owned by a for-profit system than to be solely partnered with or operated by another Catholic system.
