are collected and then reported as shown. The articles are selected based on the year (i.e., the last three years). Also, different keywords were checked (e.g., COVID-19, COVID-19 Treatment, COVID-19 Symptoms, and COVID-19 and Anosmia).
Radiation-induced bystander effects are induced changes in cells that were not themselves directly irradiated but were in the vicinity of a radiation path. Such effects, which occur in the microenvironment of an irradiated tumor, remain poorly understood and depend on the cell type and irradiation quality. This study aimed to evaluate bystander effects in non-irradiated chondrocytes that received conditioned medium from irradiated chondrosarcoma cells.

SW1353 chondrosarcoma cells were irradiated with X-rays and carbon ions, each at 0.1 Gy and 2 Gy, and the conditioned media of the irradiated cells were transferred to T/C-28A2 chondrocytes and Human Umbilical Venous Endothelial Cells (HUVECs). The whole proteome of bystander chondrocytes was analyzed by label-free mass spectrometry, and a comparative study was performed by dose and irradiation quality. HUVECs were evaluated for inflammatory cytokine secretion.

The bystander response of chondrocytes to X-ray irradiation primarily affected the protein trant several interesting new mechanisms that are specific to particular irradiation doses and qualities.
All these accessions corresponded to a window of the proteins modulated in response to the bystander effect. Our chondrosarcoma model clarified the nature of the bystander response of chondrocytes and may suggest several interesting new mechanisms that are specific to particular irradiation doses and qualities.

Studies show that electric fields are used as therapy during nerve and tissue injuries along with trans-retinal stimulation. However, cellular and molecular changes induced by such treatments remain largely unknown especially in retinal photoreceptor cells.
studies show that direct current electric fields (dcEF) were known to influence cell division, polarity, shape, and motility. Here we could characterize for the first time the reactions of 661W, a retinal cone photoreceptor especially regarding organelle polarization, membrane polarization of mitochondria, O2 consumption, ATP/ADP ratio and gene expression.

The 661W cells were stimulated with a constant dcEF of field strength 5 V/cm during 30 min or 5 h depending on the parameters studied.

In response to dcEF, the cells aligned perpendicular to the field by forming a leading edge with extended membrane protrusions towards the cathode. Using immunofluorescence and live cell imaging, we show that the cell membrane depolarized at the cathodal side. Thhesis by 115.2% and oxygen consumption by 113.3% 3 h after dcEF stimulation. An analysis of differentially expressed genes by RNA sequencing revealed an upregulation of genes involved in cellular movement, cell to cell and intracellular signaling, molecular transport, assembly and organization.

The mechanisms found can enhance our understanding regarding the beneficial effects of EF treatment in retinal diseases.

Earlier studies reported alterations of the kynurenine (KYN) pathway of tryptophan (TRP) metabolism in Parkinson's disease (PD). The first rate-limiting enzymes indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO) and tryptophan dioxygenase were observed upregulated, resulting elevated KYN/TRP ratios in the serum and cerebrospinal fluid samples of patients with PD. More and more single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have been identified in a population of PD. However, little is known about the impact of genetic variations of the IDO on the pathogenesis of PD.

SNP analysis of IDO1 was performed by allelic discrimination assay with fluorescently labelled TaqMan probes and a subgroup analysis was conducted according to the age of PD onset. The frame shifts variant rs34155785, intronic variant rs7820268, and promotor region variant rs9657182 SNPs of 105 PD patients without comorbidity were analyzed and compared to 129 healthy controls.

No significant correlation was found in three SNPs between PD patients and healthy controls. However, the subgroup analysis revealed that A alleles of rs7820268 SNP or rs9657182 SNP carriers contribute to later onset of PD than non-carriers.

The study suggested that SNPs of IDO1 influenced the age onset of PD and genotyping of SNPs in certain alleles potentially serves as a risk biomarker of PD.

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are closely associated with the initiation, progression, metastasis, and recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). They could therefore serve as markers for the early diagnosis and for the prognosis of HCC patients.

This was an observational prospective cohort study. A total of 101 participants were included, comprising patients with HCC (n = 61), liver cirrhosis (LC) (n = 20), or healthy controls (HC) (n = 20). read more The baseline characteristics of participants in each group were compared. Serum levels of the lncRNAs HOTAIR, BRM and ICR were determined in each group by reverse transcription and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Correlations between the serum levels of the three lncRNAs and multiple clinical parameters were analysed. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to assess the diagnostic potential for HCC of each lncRNA individually, or in combination with AFP. Multivariate Cox regression analysis was used to evaluate the ar HCC. Upregulation of HOTAIR, BRM and ICR may facilitate early diagnosis and indicate poor prognosis for HCC. These lncRNAs could potentially serve as therapeutic targets for HCC. Combination of the three lncRNAs with AFP may increase the diagnostic accuracy for HCC. Further studies in larger cohorts of patients are needed to validate these findings.

Over the last 20 years, circulating highly pathogenic (HP) Asian H5 subtype avian influenza viruses have caused global pandemics in poultry and sporadic infections in humans. Vaccines are a desirable solution to prevent viral infections in poultry and reduce transmission to humans. Herein, we investigated the efficacy of an oil-adjuvanted inactivated H5N6 vaccine against highly pathogenic H5N6 and H5N1 influenza virus infections in chickens.

The polybasic amino acid cleavage site depleted
gene and
gene of A/Waterfowl/Korea/S57/2016 (clade 2.3.4.4) (H5N6) was assembled with the rest of the A/PR/8/34 (H1N1) genes to construct the vaccine virus. The vaccine virus was propagated in fertilized eggs, partially purified using a tangential flow filtration (TFF) system, and inactivated using formalin. The chickens were intramuscularly immunized with 384 HA, 192HA, and 96HA units of oil-adjuvanted inactivated H5N6 vaccine. Antibody titer, survival rate, and lung pathology were evaluated against the homologouscate that one dose of 384HA oil-adjuvanted inactivated H5N6 vaccine can induce a long-lasting immune response against both homologous H5N6 and heterologous H5N1 infections in chickens.
Epidemic encephalitis B is a common zoonosis that threatens both pigs and humans. Effective prevention and control of epidemic encephalitis B is difficult. The cellular defence mechanism is closely related to the body's resistance to viral invasion. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are involved in regulating various cellular activities. We previously found that lncRNA-SUSAJ1 could inhibit the proliferation of Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV). However, the mechanism underlying this suppression remains unclear.

We performed Western blotting and quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) analyses, as well as mitochondrial membrane potential, flow cytometry, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick-end labelling (TUNEL), RNA pull-down, and RNA immunoprecipitation assays.

JC-1 cationic dye staining showed that lncRNA-SUSAJ1 promoted the depolarisation of mitochondrial membrane potential; H2DCFDA probe staining showed that lncRNA-SUSAJ1 enhanced the level of reactive oxygen sto viral proliferation by promoting cell apoptosis, clarify the antiviral effect of lncRNA-SUSAJ1 on JEV.As we continually reflect on the wars of the 20th century, identification of the remains of victims takes an increasingly prominent position in ongoing research. Existing work on the identification of human remains from 20th century wars primarily covers the determination of phenotypic characteristics, kinship and geographic origins, supporting the establishment of genetic information databases. Compared with standard forensic methods, DNA analyses have revealed greater effectiveness. The process of DNA analysis includes DNA extraction, genetic marker testing and data analysis. Protocols from ancient DNA research can be applied to degraded remains, and next-generation sequencing (NGS) techniques can compensate for shortcomings in the most commonly-used PCR-capillary electrophoresis typing. As it stands, wide-ranging inter-governmental and inter-institutional collaboration is necessary in order to set up NGS-based public databases, and thereby promote the identification of human remains and archaeological forensics.
