To evaluate protein C (PC) activity after intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (IHPSS) percutaneous transvenous coil embolization (PTCE) in dogs; to identify if PC is associated with clinical status after intervention, and to compare PC with standard biochemical values.
Retrospective case series.
Forty-seven client-owned dogs with IHPSS undergoing PTCE.
Records were reviewed for preoperative and postoperative PC, hematocrit (HCT), mean corpuscular volume (MCV), albumin (ALB), and blood urea nitrogen (BUN). Ultimate clinical status was classified as excellent, fair, or poor, based on ongoing medical management and the presence of clinical signs. Intrahepatic portosystemic shunt was considered to be completely or incompletely occluded intraoperatively based on angiography.
Postoperative PC activity increased in 37/47 (78.7%) dogs with a mean increase of 38.7% ± 2.1%. Ultimate postoperative clinical status was excellent in 16/43 (37.2%), fair in 19/43 (44.2%), and poor in 8/43 dogs (18.6%). No association was detected between preoperative PC (46.8% ± 1.8%) and ultimate clinical status but mean postoperative PC (75.7% ± 1.4%), HCT, MCV, ALB, and BUN were higher in dogs with excellent clinical status. Postoperative PC activity was higher when shunts were completely occluded (96.3% ± 10.9%), which was a finding associated with excellent status.
Postoperative, but not preoperative, PC activity was higher in dogs with better ultimate clinical status. Similar trends were noted in standard hematological and biochemical values. Complete occlusion of shunts was associated with a higher postoperative PC and superior ultimate clinical status.
Postoperative PC may provide valuable information about the success of PTCE for IHPSS as it relates to the ultimate status and the need for additional procedures.

To estimate the prevalence of sexual dysfunction in women with type 1 diabetes (T1D) compared with women without diabetes and to analyse associations between sexual dysfunction and the presence of chronic physical diabetes complications, diabetes distress and depression in women with T1D.
This cross-sectional study was conducted in Norway, and 171 women with T1D and 60 controls completed the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). Diabetes distress was assessed with the Problem Areas in Diabetes (PAID) scale. Data on diabetes complications were retrieved from medical records. We performed logistic regression to estimate differences in the prevalence of sexual dysfunction (defined as FSFI ≤26.55) between women with T1D and women without diabetes and to examine associations of sexual dysfunction with chronic diabetes complications, diabetes distress and depression in women with T1D.
The prevalence of sexual dysfunction was higher in women with T1D (50.3%) compared with the controls (35.0%; unadjusted odds ratio [OR] 1.89 [95% confidence interval (CI) 1.06-3.37]; adjusted OR 1.93 [1.05-3.56]). In women with T1D, sexual dysfunction was associated with both diabetes distress (adjusted OR 1.03 [1.01-1.05]) and depression (adjusted OR 1.28 [1.12-1.46]), but there were no clear associations with chronic diabetes complications (adjusted OR 1.46 [0.67-3.19]).
This study suggests that sexual dysfunction is more prevalent in women with T1D compared with women without diabetes. The study findings emphasize the importance of including sexual health in relation to diabetes distress and psychological aspects in diabetes care and future research.

In this study, a rapid and sensitive ultra high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) method was established for simultaneous quantification of six lignans, namely (-)-(7R,8R)-machilin D (1), verrucesin (2), rel-(7S,8S,7'R,8'R)-3,3',4,4',5,5'-hexamethoxy-7.O.7',8.8'-lignan (3), manassantin A (4), manassantin B (5), and saucerneol F (6) in rats plasma. It was validated with acceptable linearity (r≥0.9922), accuracy (80.42-95.17%), precision (RSD≤12.08%), and extraction recovery (80.36-93.45%). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/Vorinostat-saha.html The method was successfully applied to the comparative pharmacokinetic study of the six lignans in normal and diabetic rats after oral administration of SC extract. Results showed that the areas under the plasma concentration-time curve (AUC0→t and AUC0→∞ ) of (-)-(7R,8R)-machilin D, rel-(7S,8S,7'R,8'R)-3,3',4,4',5,5'-hexamethoxy-7.O.7',8.8'-lignan, manassantin B and saucerneol F in diabetic rats were significantly increased, the plasma clearance (CL) of (-)-(7R,8R)-machilin D in diabetic rats was significantly decreased. However, the AUC0→t and AUC0→∞ of verrucesin were significantly decreased, and its CL was significantly increased in diabetic rats compared with those in normal rats. These results indicated that there were remarkable differences in the pharmacokinetic parameters between the normal and diabetic rats. The pharmacokinetic studies might be benefit for the clinical use of SC as hypoglycemic agent.
In order to improve the drying efficiency and reduce the drying energy consumption of Pleurotus eryngii, microwave hot-air flow rolling drying (MHARD) coupled with ultrasonic pretreating time (0, 20, 40, and 60 min) was used to investigate the drying profile, thermal characteristics, water migration, microstructure and rehydration dynamics of P. eryngii using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (LF-NMR) analysis and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
Results showed that the drying time of P. eryngii was 80, 70, 60 and 50 min, accordingly. Energy consumption was significantly reduced by ultrasonic pretreatment, and moisture effective diffusivity (D
) was increased with the increase of ultrasonic pretreating time. DSC curves showed that the drying process was accelerated by ultrasonic pretreatment significantly by enhancing the heat transfer. Meanwhile, SEM images showed that the cell was broken and numbers of irregular holes appeared in the ultrasound-pretreated samples. In terms of rehydration dynamics, Page model could well model the rehydration kinetics of dried P. eryngii with R
> 0.99.

Recent studies have suggested the role of MYC2 as a negative regulator of salicylic acid (SA)-mediated defense against bacterial pathogens. By using myc2 mutant and constitutively MYC2-expressing plants, we further show that MYC2 also positively influences SA-mediated defense; whereas, myc2 mutant plants are resistant to virulent pathogens only, MYC2 over-expressing plants are hyper-resistant to multiple virulent and avirulent strains of bacterial pathogens. MYC2 promotes pathogen-induced callose deposition, SA biosynthesis, expression of PR1 gene, and SA-responsiveness. Using bacterially produced MYC2 protein in electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA), we have shown that MYC2 binds to the promoter of several important defense regulators, including PEPR1, MKK4, RIN4, and the second intron of ICS1. MYC2 positively regulates the expression of RIN4, MKK4, and ICS1; however, it negatively regulates the expression of PEPR1. Pathogen inoculation enhances MYC2 association at ICS1 intron and RIN4 promoter. Mutations of MYC2 binding site at ICS1 intron or RIN4 promoter abolish the associated GUS reporter expression. Hyper-resistance of MYC2 over-expressing plants is largely light-dependent, which is in agreement with the role of MYC2 in SA biosynthesis. The results altogether demonstrate that MYC2 possesses dual regulatory roles in SA biosynthesis, SA signaling, pattern-triggered immunity (PTI), and effector-triggered immunity (ETI) in Arabidopsis.Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a heterogeneous disease characterized by lack of hormone receptor expression and is known for high rates of recurrence, distant metastases, and poor clinical outcomes. link2 TNBC cells lack targetable receptors; hence, there is an urgent need for targetable markers for the disease. Breast cancer stem-like cells (BCSCs) are a fraction of cells in primary tumors that are associated with tumorigenesis, metastasis, and resistance to chemotherapy. Targeting BCSCs is thus an effective strategy for preventing cancer metastatic spread and sensitizing tumors to chemotherapy. link3 The CD44hi CD24lo phenotype is a well-established phenotype for identification of BCSCs, but CD44 and CD24 are not targetable markers owing to their expression in normal tissues. The ganglioside GD2 has been shown to be upregulated in primary TNBC tumors compared with normal breast tissue and has been shown to identify BCSCs. In this review, we discuss GD2 as a BCSC- and tumor-specific marker in TNBC; epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition and the signaling pathways that are upstream and downstream of GD2 and the role of these pathways in tumorigenesis and metastasis in TNBC; direct and indirect approaches for targeting GD2; and ongoing clinical trials and treatments directed against GD2 as well as future directions for these strategies.In a context of rising violence and long-lasting impunity, in 2008, Mexico's criminal justice system underwent a radical change from an inquisitorial model to an adversarial one, to make it more effective, transparent, and expeditious. The new system tasked judges with publicly determining the admissibility of forensic evidence, as well as assessing its technical quality and probative value-tasks for which they currently receive little to no training. With the aim of contributing to the consolidation of the adversarial model, a comparative framework-in the form of a checklist-of the analysis of fingerprints, DNA samples, and voice recordings was created. To do so, a review of the academic literature, published reports, and guidelines was performed. The collected data were synthesized and submitted to a panel of Mexican judges, who provided feedback on its adequacy. The framework focuses on the steps on which quality assurance of forensic evidence depends, organized in five discrete stages that span from the collection of samples at the scene of a crime to the presentation of evidence at trial, specifying the main technical criteria experts should state to allow a decision maker to examine its accuracy and reliability.
