Turn Back, the band's third studio album it was a return to a classic sextet structure and it was a more consistent, more powerful effort that had a more grittier edge. The edgier sound of Turn Back was a reflection of the development of the group. The drummer Bobby Kimball's increasing ability to play was evident in the vocals of Joseph Williams, who had become more confident and mature.
