What is Pragmatics?
A person who understands pragmatics can politely hedge a request, cleverly read between the lines, or even negotiate turn-taking norms in conversation. Pragmatics takes into account cultural, social and situational aspects when using language.

Definition
The term "pragmatic" describes people who are logical and practical. People who are pragmatic concentrate on what is working in the real-world and don't get bogged by idealistic theories.
The word"pragmatic" is derived from the Latin praegere which means "to grasp." Pragmatism is a philosophical tradition that holds that understanding the world and agency are interdependent. It also recognizes the nature of knowledge as a process of learning it through experiences, and is focused on how knowledge can be used in the course of action.
William James characterized pragmatism as an alternative name for old methods of thinking in 1907 with his series of lectures "Pragmatism: A New Name for Some Old Ways of Thinking." He began by identifying what he called 'The Present Dilemma in Philosophy'--a fundamental and seemingly unsolvable conflict between two different ways of thinking, the empiricist with a tough-minded commitment to experience and going through the facts, versus the soft-hearted tendency to a priori principles that appeal to rationalization. He promised that pragmatism would be able to bridge this gap.
He defined 'praxy an idea or truth that is rooted in an idealized theory but in the present world. He argued that the pragmatism approach was the most natural and authentic way to solve human issues. Other philosophical theories according to him were flawed.
In the early 1900s, a number of philosophers also developed pragmatist perspectives that included George Herbert Mead, W.E.B Du Bois, and Alain Locke. They developed pragmatist views on the structure of education, science and public policy. John Dewey articulated pragmatist views on topics such as education democratic, democracy, and public policy.
Currently, pragmatism is still in the process of influencing the design of educational programs, curriculums, and technological and scientific applications. There are also a variety of philosophical movements that are pragmatic, like neopragmatism and classical pragmatism, and others. There are also computational and formal pragmatics, game theory, theoretical clinical, experimental, and neuropragmatics; and intercultural and interlinguistic pragmatics among others.

In the final years of his career, he began to see pragmatism in terms of the philosophy of democracy.
The most recent pragmatists have formulated new areas of enquiry like computational pragmatics (the study of computer systems that make use of context to better understand their users' intentions) Game-theoretic and neuropragmatics and experimental pragmatics. These areas of pragmatics assist to develop a more accurate understanding of how information and language are used.
