Thus, cervical ribs may exert excessive pressure upon these structures, producing a variety of symptoms that may be considered as a neuro-vascular complex. Cervical ribs are not uncommon in the catalogue of anatomic abnormalities in modern medicine, but few cases have been reported from historic skeletal material. We conducted a review with the existent articles published in palaeopathological literature, the historical background with the most important milestones regarding the studies on cervical ribs, the embryological processes in their development, and their prevalence and principal clinical features. Finally, we described a case of a cervical rib that was observed in the skeletal remains of a young individual from the late medieval cemetery of Corfinio (12th-13th century CE, Italy).The purpose of this study was to assess the sexual dimorphism of body proportions and body composition among 16-19-year-olds from South Asia (India) and Central Europe (Poland). The study group consisted of the results of anthropometric measurements of 2008 youths (16-19-year-olds). 1098 of them came from Kolkata (India) and 910 from Kraków (Poland). For each of the analyzed anthropometric characteristics, the index of sexual dimorphism was calculated, basing on mean and standard deviation values. The body height was one of the most dimorphic features, in both populations. Also, the dimorphism in body adiposity, upper and lower limb, as well as trunk adiposity, pelvi-acromial and frame indicators was similar in both populations. Limbs-to-trunk adiposity index and trunk-to-total adiposity ratio were more dimorphic among the South Asian population, while the muscle mass was notably more dimorphic in the Polish adolescents. Such differences in the values of the Mollison's index may have been associated with the discrepancies in overall body fat ratio, which is much greater in the South Asians. Additionally, it may be related to different models of sexual preferences and attractiveness perception in both, culturally significantly varying, populations.The organic acceptor, 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ), has been the subject of much research over the past few decades. Due to the π-conjugation of the quinodal structure, TCNQ as well as TCNQ based charge transfer compounds, exhibit some remarkable conducting properties. We present a study of the neutral TCNQ using inelastic neutron spectroscopy (INS) and show the first temperature dependent INS data collected on TCNQ allowing us to probe the temperature dependence of the low energy vibrational states, which have been shown to have an effect on charge delocalisation. Computational calculations have been used to help understand the data and the combination with the INS allows us to understand the phonon states. A complimentary experiment on deuterated TCNQ was also performed that allows a brief comparison of the isotopic substitution. This work utilises novel techniques to aid the understanding of the bulk properties of TCNQ in its neutral state that can be fed into work on other TCNQ based materials, including the exploration of deuteration as a technique to tune the properties of the parent compound.SemiSynBio is an emerging topic toward the construction of platforms for next-generation information processing. Recent research has indicated its promising prospect toward information processing including algorithm design and pattern manipulation with the DNA TMSD reaction, which is one of the cores of the SemiSynBio technology route. The DNA TMSD reaction is the process in which an invader strand displaces the incumbent strand from the gate strand through initiation at the exposed toehold domain. Also, the DNA TMSD reaction generally involves three processes toehold association, branch migration and strand disassociation. Herein, we review the recent progress on information processing with the DNA TMSD reaction. We highlight the diverse developments on information processing with the logic circuit, analog circuit, combinational circuit and information relay with the DNA origami structure. Additionally, we explore the current challenges and various trends toward the design and application of the DNA TMSD reaction in future information processing.Organic aerosols, a major constituent of fine particulate mass in megacities, can be directly emitted or formed from secondary processing of biogenic and anthropogenic volatile organic compound emissions. https://www.selleckchem.com/erk.html The complexity of volatile organic compound emission sources, speciation and oxidation pathways leads to uncertainties in the key sources and chemistry leading to formation of organic aerosol in urban areas. Historically, online measurements of organic aerosol composition have been unable to resolve specific markers of volatile organic compound oxidation, while offline analysis of markers focus on a small proportion of organic aerosol and lack the time resolution to carry out detailed statistical analysis required to study the dynamic changes in aerosol sources and chemistry. Here we use data collected as part of the joint UK-China Air Pollution and Human Health (APHH-Beijing) collaboration during a field campaign in urban Beijing in the summer of 2017 alongside laboratory measurements of secondary organic aerosol from oxidation of key aromatic precursors (1,3,5-trimethyl benzene, 1,2,4-trimethyl benzene, propyl benzene, isopropyl benzene and 1-methyl naphthalene) to study the anthropogenic and biogenic contributions to organic aerosol. For the first time in Beijing, this study applies positive matrix factorisation to online measurements of organic aerosol composition from a time-of-flight iodide chemical ionisation mass spectrometer fitted with a filter inlet for gases and aerosols (FIGAERO-ToF-I-CIMS). This approach identifies the real-time variations in sources and oxidation processes influencing aerosol composition at a near-molecular level. We identify eight factors with distinct temporal variability, highlighting episodic differences in OA composition attributed to regional influences and in situ formation. These have average carbon numbers ranging from C5-C9 and can be associated with oxidation of anthropogenic aromatic hydrocarbons alongside biogenic emissions of isoprene, α-pinene and sesquiterpenes.
