There is increasing interest in the potential uses of mobile health (mHealth) technologies, such as wearable biosensors, as supplements for the care of people with neurological conditions. However, adherence is low, especially over long periods. If people are to benefit from these resources, we need a better long-term understanding of what influences patient engagement. Previous research suggests that engagement is moderated by several barriers and facilitators, but their relative importance is unknown.

To determine preferences and the relative importance of user-generated factors influencing engagement with mHealth technologies for 2 common neurological conditions with a relapsing-remitting course multiple sclerosis (MS) and epilepsy.

In a discrete choice experiment, people with a diagnosis of MS (n=141) or epilepsy (n=175) were asked to select their preferred technology from a series of 8 vignettes with 4 characteristics privacy, clinical support, established benefit, and device accuracy; each of thesest interest. However, there are individual differences, and people who are less accepting of technology may need far greater reassurance about data privacy. People with lower levels of education value greater clinician involvement. These patient preferences should be considered when designing mHealth technologies.
Adolescent health promotion is important in preventing risk behaviors and improving mental health. Health promotion during adolescence has been shown to contribute to the prevention of late onset of the mental health disease. However, scalable interventions have not been established yet.

This study was designed to test the efficacy of two adolescent health promotion interventions a well-care visit (WCV) with a risk assessment interview and counseling and self-monitoring with a smartphone cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) app. Our hypothesis was that participants who had received both WCV and the CBT app would have better outcomes than those who had received only WCV or those who had not received any intervention. We conducted a prospective multi-institutional randomized controlled trial.

Their activity needs to be precisely controlled to prevent cell lysis. In Escherichia coli, amidase activity is controlled by three regulatory proteins NlpD, EnvC and ActS. However, recent studies linked the outer membrane lipoprotein DolP (formerly YraP) as a potential upstream regulator of NlpD. In this study we explored this link in further detail. To our surprise DolP did not modulate amidase activity in vitro and was unable to interact with NlpD in pull-down and MST (MicroScale Thermophoresis) assays. Next, we excluded the hypothesis that ΔdolP phenocopied ΔnlpD in a range of envelope stresses. However, morphological analysis of double deletion mutants of amidases (AmiA, AmiB AmiC) and amidase regulators with dolP revealed that ΔamiAΔdolP and ΔenvCΔdolP mutants display longer chain length compared to their parental strains indicating a role for DolP in cell division. Overall, we present evidence that DolP does not affect NlpD function in vitro, implying that DolP is not an upstream regulator of NlpD. However, DolP may impact daughter cell separation by interacting directly with AmiA or AmiC, or by a yet undiscovered mechanism.
Tooth decay is a significant public health problem globally. The caries-arrest effectiveness of 38% silver diamine fluoride (SDF) has been well documented. However, information on the caries-preventive effect of SDF on primary teeth is insufficient.

The aim of this trial is to investigate the effectiveness of semiannual application of 38% SDF and that of 5% sodium fluoride (NaF) varnish when compared with placebo control for preventing occlusal caries in the primary molars of preschool children over 30 months.

This 3-arm, parallel design, double-blind, randomized controlled trial involves 791 preschool children. Children are randomly allocated to receive 1 of 3 interventions as follows Group 1, 38% SDF; Group 2, 5% NaF varnish; and Group 3, placebo control (tonic water). The intervention and dental examination will be carried out every 6 months. Digital interventions are interventions supported by digital tools or technologies, such as mobile apps, wearables, or web-based software. Digital interventions in the context of public health are specifically designed to promote and improve health. Recent reviews have shown that many digital interventions target physical activity promotion; however, it is unclear how such digital interventions are evaluated.

We aimed to investigate evaluation strategies in the context of digital interventions for physical activity promotion using a scoping review of published reviews. We focused on the target (ie, user outcomes or tool performance), methods (ie, tool data or self-reported data), and theoretical frameworks of the evaluation strategies.

A protocol for this study was preregistered and published. From among 300 reviews published up to March 19, 2021 in Medline, PsycINFO, and CINAHL databases, 40 reviews (1 rapid, 9 scoping, and 30 systematic) were included in this scoping review. Two authors independently eld.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) ranks third globally in smartphone use. Smartphones have made many aspects of life easier. However, the overuse of smartphones is associated with physical and psychosocial problems.

The aim of this paper is to estimate the prevalence and associated factors of problematic use of smartphones among adults in the Qassim region of KSA.

We enrolled 715 participants using cluster random sampling for this cross-sectional survey. We assessed the problematic use of smartphones using the short version of the Smartphone Addiction Scale.

We estimated the prevalence of problematic smartphone use among adults at 64% (453/708). Multivariable logistic regression analysis suggested that students are 3 times more likely to demonstrate problematic use compared with unemployed individuals (P=.03); adults using more than five apps are 2 times more likely to demonstrate problematic use compared to those using a maximum of three apps (P=.007). Protective factors against problematic smartphone use include using apps for academic (odds ratio [OR] 0.66; P=.04) or religious needs (OR 0.55; P=.007) and having a monthly family income of 5001-10,000 SAR (Saudi Riyal; US $1300-$2700; OR 0.46; P=.01) or 10,001-20,000 SAR (US $2700-$5400; OR 0.51; P=.03) compared to the <1501 SAR (US $400) income group.

Monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) against calcitonin gene-related peptides (CGRP) are novel treatments for migraine prevention. Based on a previous functional imaging study which investigated the CGRP receptor mAb (erenumab), we hypothesized that (i) the CGRP ligand mAb galcanezumab would alter central trigeminal pain processing; (ii) responders to galcanezumab treatment would show specific hypothalamic modulation in contrast to non-responders; and (iii) the ligand and the receptor antibody differ in brain responses.

Using an established trigeminal nociceptive functional magnetic imaging paradigm, 26 migraine patients were subsequently scanned twice before and 2-3 weeks after administration of galcanezumab.

We found that galcanezumab decreases hypothalamic activation in all patients and that the reduction was stronger in responders than in non-responders. Contrasting erenumab and galcanezumab showed that both antibodies activate a distinct network. We also found that pre-treatment activity of the spinal trigeminal nucleus (STN) and coupling between the STN and the hypothalamus covariates with the response to galcanezumab.

These data suggest that despite relative impermeability of the blood-brain barrier for CGRP mAb, mAb treatment induces certain and highly specific brain effects which may be part of the mechanism of their efficacy in migraine treatment.

Tourists are at risk of experiencing health problems during their travel. However, even though tour guides have the potential to become travel health promoters, their participation has not been optimal.

This study aims to develop a comprehensive travel health education model to help tour guides improve health information delivery to tourists.

This is an exploratory sequential mixed methods research. The first phase consisted of a qualitative study with an informed grounded theory design. In-depth interviews were carried out with tour guides from all language divisions and policymakers of the Indonesian Tour Guide Association Bali Branch or Himpunan Pramuwisata Indonesia Daerah Bali (HPI Bali). The interview guidelines were developed based on the theory of planned behavior and identity theory. Qualitative data were analyzed thematically. In the interim phase, a travel health education model and questionnaire were developed based on the qualitative findings. Indoor air quality is an important environmental factor that triggers and exacerbates asthma, the most common chronic disease in children. A mobile app to monitor indoor air quality could help occupants keep their indoor air quality clean. However, no app is available that allows children to monitor and improve their indoor air quality.

Previously, we conducted a series of user-centered design studies to identify user needs and design requirements toward creating a mobile app that helps children with asthma to engage in monitoring and improving indoor air quality as part of their asthma management. Based on the findings from these studies, we created AirBuddy, a child-friendly app that visualizes air quality indoors and outdoors.

This paper reports on the findings from a field deployment with 7 pediatric asthma patients, where we evaluated AirBuddy's usability and usefulness in real-world settings by conducting weekly semistructured interviews for 8 weeks.

All participants positively responded to the usefulness and usability of AirBuddy, which we believe is thanks to the iterative, user-centered design approach that allowed us to identify and address potential usability issues early on and throughout the design process.
