Fatigue is a key symptom in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and regulatory bodies recommend its assessment in clinical trials of SLE therapies.

This post hoc pooled analysis of the three BeLimumab In Subjects with Systemic lupus erythematosus (BLISS) Phase 3 randomised, double-blind, parallel-group controlled trials evaluated the measurement properties of the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy (FACIT)-Fatigue. Patients (N= 2520) completed the FACIT-Fatigue every 4 weeks from baseline until the end of each study period. Internal consistency, test-retest reliability, convergent validity, and ability to detect changes in SLE were evaluated for the FACIT-Fatigue.

The FACIT-Fatigue showed good internal consistency reliability (Cronbach's alpha > 0.90), very good test-retest reliability (0.76 ≤ intraclass correlation coefficient ≤ 0.92), and moderate-strong convergent validity (0.49 ≤ |r| ≤ 0.86) against scale and summary measure scores from the Short Form 36 Health Survey V01). The range of important (i.e. meaningful) change in FACIT-Fatigue, based on multiple anchors, was 3-6 points.

The FACIT-Fatigue demonstrated adequate psychometric properties in patients with SLE. The body of evidence from the three BLISS trials (both pooled and individually) supports the FACIT-Fatigue as a reliable and valid measure of SLE-related fatigue in clinical trials.

Using genome-wide SNP association mapping, a total of 77 and 7 loci were identified for rice bacterial blight and bacterial leaf streak resistance, respectively, which may facilitate rice resistanceimprovement. Bacterial blight (BB) and bacterial leaf streak (BLS) caused by Gram-negative bacteria Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo) and X. oryzae pv. oryzicola (Xoc), respectively, are two economically important diseases negatively affecting rice production. To mine new sources of resistance, a set of rice germplasm collection consisting of 895 re-sequenced accessions from the 3000 Rice Genomes Project (3K RGP) were screened for BB and BLS resistance under field conditions. Higher levels of BB resistance were observed in aus/boro subgroup, whereas the japonica, temperate japonica and tropical japonica subgroups possessed comparatively high levels of resistance to BLS. A genome-wide association study (GWAS) mined 77 genomic loci significantly associated with BB and 7 with BLS resistance. The phenotypic varianc genes and one for BLS resistance overlapped with a previously reported BLS resistance QTL. A search for the candidates in other novel loci revealed several defense-related genes that may be involved in resistance to BB and BLS. High levels of phenotypic resistance to BB or BLS could be attributed to the accumulation of the resistance (R) alleles at the associated loci, indicating their potential value in rice resistance breeding via gene pyramiding. The GWAS analysis validated the known genes underlying BB and BLS resistance and identified novel loci that could enrich the current resistance gene pool. The resources with strong resistance and significant SNPs identified in this study are potentially useful in breeding for BB and BLS resistance.Breastfeeding is an effective way to protect and promote the health of the infant and mother. Cultural, social, economic, medical, or psychological factors might interfere with successful breastfeeding. There is limited knowledge about the breastfeeding practices of mothers with EDs. We performed a systematic review to generate more evidence in this area. A search was conducted in PubMed and PsycINFO, and several journals were hand searched for relevant publications. Of N = 3904 hits, 13 full texts were included in the qualitative analysis. The findings on total duration of BF between mothers with and without EDs were mixed, but women with EDs showed more negative experiences and emotional problems during BF. There was not enough evidence to conclude on breastfeeding initiation, or on the duration of exclusive breastfeeding. Maternal EDs might have a negative impact on BF practices with possible negative effects on the maternal-child feeding environment. Further studies with comparable data and information on the women's partners' attitudes about breastfeeding are needed.The aim of this study was to explore staff perceptions of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on mental health service delivery and outcomes for women who were pregnant or in the first year after birth ('perinatal' women). Secondary analysis was undertaken of an online mixed-methods survey open to all mental health care staff in the UK involving 363 staff working with women in the perinatal period. Staff perceived the mental health of perinatal women to be particularly vulnerable to the impact of stressors associated with the pandemic such as social isolation (rated by 79.3% as relevant or extremely relevant; 288/363) and domestic violence and abuse (53.3%; 192/360). As a result of changes to mental health and other health and social care services, staff reported feeling less able to assess women, particularly their relationship with their baby (43.3%; 90/208), and to mobilise safeguarding procedures (29.4%; 62/211). While 42% of staff reported that some women engaged poorly with virtual appointments, they also found flexible remote consulting to be beneficial for some women and helped time management due to reductions in travel time.
