Lindane (γ-Hexachlorocyclohexane) has been used extensively as a pesticide all over the world. The production of Lindane entails the formation of four major Hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) isomers, that is, alpha, beta, gamma, and delta as muck. These have been used as Technical HCH in developing countries as an inexpensive alternate source. However, HCH isomers pose a severe environmental hazard due to their highly persistent nature and toxicity. In this study, the effect of HCH application on the soil microbial diversity was studied. The species which could persist even after prolonged exposure at high HCH concentration, was isolated, screened, and enriched as potential t-HCH degraders. The selected isolate could degrade 88.05%, 92.19%, 91.54%, and 82.85% of the alpha, gamma, beta, and delta isomers, respectively at 100 mg/L HCH concentration. Identification of the isolate by 16s rRNA sequencing was similar to Cupriavidus malaysiensis. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first study to observe this particular strain's ability to simultaneously degrade the four isomers, especially the most recalcitrant beta isomer. Therefore, the degradative capability of this strain, as a sole carbon source at higher HCH concentration (100 mg/l), can be exploited for bioremediation of HCH contaminated sites.Most agronomic traits of rice (Oryza sativa), such as grain length, are complex traits controlled by multiple genes. Chromosome segment substitution lines (CSSLs) are ideal materials for dissecting these complex traits. We developed the novel rice CSSL 'Z414', which has short, wide grains, from progeny of the recipient parent 'Xihui 18' (an indica restorer line) and the donor parent 'Huhan 3' (a japonica cultivar). Z414 contains four substitution segments with an average length of 3.04 Mb. Z414 displays seven traits that significantly differ from those of Xihui 18, including differences in grain length, width, and weight; degree of chalkiness; and brown rice rate. We identified seven quantitative trait loci (QTL) that are responsible for these differences in an F2 population from a cross between Xihui 18 and Z414. Among these, six QTL (qPL3, qGW5, qGL11, qRLW5, qRLW11, and qGWT5) were detected in newly developed single-segment substitution lines (SSSLs) S1-S6. In addition, four QTL (qGL3, qGL5, qCD3, and qCD5) were detected in S1 and S5. Analysis of these SSSLs attributed the short, wide grain trait of Z414 to qGL11, qGL3, qGL5, and qGW5. Substitution mapping delimited qGL11 within an 810-kb interval on chromosome 11. Sequencing, real time quantitative PCR, and cell morphology analysis revealed that qGL11 might be a novel QTL encoding the cyclin CycT1;3. Finally, pyramiding qGL3 (a = 0.43) and qGL11 (a =  - 0.37) led to shorter grains in the dual-segment substitution line D2 and revealed that qGL11 is epistatic to qGL3. In addition, S1 and D2 exhibited different grain sizes and less chalkiness than Z414. In conclusion, the short grain phenotype of the CSSL Z414 is controlled by qGL11, qGL3, and qGL5. qGL11 might be a novel QTL encoding CycT1;3, whose specific role in regulating grain length was previously unknown, and qGL11 is epistatic to qGL3. S1 and D2 could potentially be used in hybrid rice breeding.The distribution of ticks is essentially determined by the presence of climatic conditions and ecological contexts suitable for their survival and development. One of the biggest problems in the detection of Pseudomonas is that several species are seemingly identical. Currently, antibiotic resistance is one of the most significant challenges facing the world's health and food security. Therefore, this study was designed to apply an accurate technique for eliminating the identification discrepancy of Pseudomonas species and to study their resistance against various antimicrobials. A total of 320 chicken meat specimens were cultivated, and the isolated bacteria' were phenotypically recognized. Protein analysis was carried out for cultured isolates via Microflex LT. The resistance of Pseudomonas isolates was recorded through Vitek® 2 AST-GN83 cards. Overall, 69 samples were identified as Pseudomonas spp. and included 18 Pseudomonas lundensis (P. lundensis), 16 Pseudomonas fragi (P. fragi), 13 Pseudomonas oryzihabitans (P. oryzihabitans), 10 Pseudomonas stutzeri (P. stutzeri), 5 Pseudomonas fluorescens (P. fluorescens), 4 Pseudomonas putida (P. putida), and 3 Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) isolates. Microflex LT identified all Pseudomonas isolates (100%) correctly with a score value ≥ 2.00. PCA positively discriminated the identified isolates into various groups. The antimicrobial resistance levels against Pseudomonas isolates were 81.16% for nitrofurantoin, 71% for ampicillin and ampicillin/sulbactam, 65.22% for cefuroxime and ceftriaxone, 55% for aztreonam, and 49.28% for ciprofloxacin. The susceptibilities were 100% for cefotaxime, 98.55% for ceftazidime, 94.20% for each piperacillin/tazobactam and cefepime, 91.3% for cefazolin. In conclusion, chicken meat was found to be contaminated with different Pseudomonas spp., with high incidence rates of P. lundensis. Microflex LT is a potent tool for distinguishing Pseudomonads at the species level.
The benefits of adjuvant radiotherapy (ART) in gallbladder cancer (GBC) treatment remain inconclusive owing to the rarity of GBC and lack of randomized studies.

PubMed, Medline, Embase, and Cochrane Library were systematically searched until March 2021. The primary endpoint was overall survival (OS). Comparative clinical studies that reported survival outcomes in GBC patients treated with or without ART were included. The comparability of each study was assessed by considering all possible clinical indicators (group 2 ART arm with poor clinical profile; group 1 ART arm with statistically similar profile or no evidence of having inferior clinical factors compared to non-ART arm).

Twenty-one studies involving 6876 GBC patients were reviewed. In pooled analyses of OS, the odds ratio (OR) was 1.26 (p = 0.111) neither favoring ART or non-ART arms. In subgroup analyses considering comparability, the OR significantly favored the ART arm (1.92, p = 0.008) among comparability group 1 studies, whereas it was 1.03 (p = 0.865) in comparability group 2 studies. The pooled rate of 5-year OS in the ART vs. non-ART arms was 44.9% vs. 20.9% in group 1 and 34.1% vs. 40.0% in group 2. With ART, significant reduction in locoregional recurrence (OR 0.21, p = 0.001) but not in distant metastasis (OR 1.32, p = 0.332) was noted.

ART not only showed benefits in patients with a similar clinical profile to those treated without ART but also yielded comparable survival in patients with an inferior clinical profile. Our results suggest the more active application of ART in GBC treatment.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) recovery prediction remains challenging. The purpose of the present study is to develop and validate prediction models for AKI recovery at hospital discharge in critically ill patients with ICU-acquired AKI stage 3 (AKI-3).

Models were developed and validated in a development cohort (n = 229) and a matched validation cohort (n = 244) from the multicenter EPaNIC database to create prediction models with the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (Lasso) machine-learning algorithm. We evaluated the discrimination and calibration of the models and compared their performance with plasma neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) measured on first AKI-3day (NGAL_AKI3) and reference model that only based on age.

Complete recovery and complete or partial recovery occurred in 33.20% and 51.23% of the validation cohort patients respectively. The clinical benefits of insulin glargine 300U/mL (Gla-300) have been confirmed in randomised clinical trials (EDITION programme and BRIGHT) and real-world studies in the USA and Western Europe. ATOS evaluated the real-world effectiveness and safety of Gla-300 in wider geographic regions (Asia, the Middle East, North Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe).

This prospective observational, international study enrolled adults (≥ 18years) with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) uncontrolled [haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) > 7% to ≤ 11%] on one or more oral anti-hyperglycaemic drugs (OADs) who had been advised by their treating physician to add Gla-300 to their existing treatment. The primary endpoint was achievement of a pre-defined individualised HbA1c target at month 6.

Of the 4550 participants included, 4422 (51.8% female) were eligible for assessment. The mean ± standard deviation (SD) age was 57.2 ± 10.8years, duration of diabetes was 10.2 ± 6.2years and baseline HbA1c was 9.28 ± 1.0%. The proportion of participants reaching their individualised glycaemic target was 25.2% [95% confidence interval (CI) 23.8-26.6%] at month 6 and 44.5% (95% CI 42.9-46.1%) at month 12. At months 6 and 12, reductions were observed in HbA1c (-1.50% and -1.87%) and fasting plasma glucose (-3.42 and -3.94mmol/L). Hypoglycaemia incidence was low, and body weight change was minimal. Adverse events were reported in 283 (6.4%) participants, with 57 (1.3%) experiencing serious adverse events.

In a real-world setting, initiation of Gla-300 in people with T2DM uncontrolled on OADs resulted in improved glycaemic control and low rates of hypoglycaemia with minimal weight change.
