Current research supports that both psychological/physical maltreatment by parents and parent-child relationship quality strongly correlate with children's psychopathology. Less research has examined the interaction effects among these variables, especially in emerging adults. The current study analyzed the association between psychological/physical maltreatment experienced from one parent and antisocial behaviors displayed by emerging adults, as well as the moderating effect of the other parent's parent-child relationship quality. This sample included 1,364 emerging adults (953 females, 411 males) who reported on past year psychological and physical maltreatment and parent-child relationship quality. Results indicated that, when considered together, parent-child relationship quality was a stronger predictor of emerging antisocial problems than maltreatment, with the exception of the father-son dyad. Memantine purchase Additionally, overall findings suggested that having a high-quality relationship with one caregiver was associated with lower antisocial problems in the context of high maltreatment from the other caregiver. Nevertheless, there were deviations from this norm. Since our sample might not represent our entire population of interest, which is emerging adults, it is important for future studies to examine these relationships across more diverse emerging adults. Practical implications are discussed.The emergence of new fungal pathogens through hybridization represents a serious challenge for agriculture. Hybridization between the wheat mildew (Blumeria graminis f.sp. tritici) and rye mildew (B.g. f.sp. secalis) pathogens have led to the emergence of a new mildew form (B.g. f.sp. triticale) growing on triticale, a man-made amphiploid crop derived from crossing rye and wheat which was originally resistant to the powdery mildew disease. The identification of the genetic basis of host-adaptation in triticale mildew has been hampered by the lack of a reference genome. Here we report the 141.4 Mb reference assembly of triticale mildew isolate THUN-12 derived from long-read sequencing and genetic map-based scaffolding. All eleven triticale mildew chromosomes were assembled from telomere-to-telomere and revealed that 19.7% of the hybrid genome was inherited from the rye mildew parental lineage. We identified lineage-specific regions in the hybrid, inherited from the rye or wheat mildew parental lineages, that harbour numerous bona fide candidate effectors. We propose that the combination of lineage-specific effectors in the hybrid genome is crucial for host-adaptation, allowing the fungus to simultaneously circumvent the immune systems contributed by wheat and rye in the triticale crop. In line with this we demonstrate the functional transfer of the SvrPm3 effector from wheat to triticale mildew, a virulence effector that specifically suppresses resistance of the wheat Pm3 allelic series. This transfer is the likely underlying cause for the observed poor effectiveness of several Pm3 alleles against triticale mildew and exemplifies the negative implications of pathogen hybridizations on resistance breeding.Cardiac transplantation is the gold standard for treatment for select patients with end-stage heart failure, yet donor supply is limited. Delayed referral or lack of referral in patients who are likely to derive benefit from an advanced HF evaluation can have important adverse consequences for patients and their families. A 2-step process can be used by practitioners when considering referral of a patient with advanced HF for consideration of advanced therapies, focused on recognizing the clinical clues associated with stage D HF and assessing potential benefits of referral to an advanced HF center. Although patients are often referred to an advanced HF center to undergo evaluation for advanced therapies such as heart transplantation or implantation of a left ventricular assist device, there are other reasons to refer, including access to the infrastructure and multidisciplinary team of the advanced HF center that offers a broad range of expertise. The intent of this statement is to provide a framework for practitioners and health systems to help identify and refer patients with HF who are most likely to derive benefit from referral to an advanced HF center.
This observational study examined the effects of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) on suicide and all-cause mortality risk in older psychiatric patients.
Participants were Medicare-insured psychiatric inpatients age 65 or older. Patients receiving ECT were exact-matched to control subjects (in a 13 ratio) on age, gender, principal hospital diagnosis, past-year psychiatric hospitalizations, past-year suicide attempts, and Elixhauser comorbidity index. Cox proportional hazard models were risk-adjusted for race, year of hospitalization, rural-urban continuum code, year of index hospitalization, median income of zip code, and all matched covariates to estimate hazard ratios with 95% confidence intervals.
A total of 10,460 patients in the ECT group and 31,160 in the control group were included in the analyses (total N=41,620; 65.4% female; mean age, 74.7 years [SD=7.09]). Compared with the control group, patients receiving ECT had lower all-cause mortality for up to 1 year following hospital discharge (adjusted hazard ratio=0.61, 95% CI=0.56, 0.66). For death by suicide, 1-year survival analysis showed no group difference. A significant association was observed with suicide in the first months following ECT, but this pattern waned over time (1 month hazard ratio=0.44, 95% CI=0.21, 0.91; 2 months hazard ratio=0.52, 95% CI=0.29, 0.92; 3 months hazard ratio=0.56, 95% CI=0.37, 0.92; 6 months 0.87, 95% CI=0.59, 1.28; 12 months 0.92, 95% CI=0.68, 1.25).

Coronary microvascular dysfunction has been described in patients with autoimmune rheumatic disease (ARD). However, it is unknown whether positron emission tomography (PET)-derived myocardial flow reserve (MFR) can predict adverse events in this population.

In 101 patients with ARD (88% female, age 62±10 years), when compared with matched patients without ARD (n=101), global MFR was significantly reduced (median 1.68 [interquartile range 1.34-2.05] versus 1.86 [interquartile range 1.58-2.28]) and reduced MFR (<1.5) was more frequent (40% versus 22%).
