This case series pilot study assessed the effects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO2) for treating rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
Ten RA subjects received 30 HBO2 treatments over 6 to 10 weeks. Serial rheumatologic evaluations (ie, the Disease Activity Scale [DAS28], the Routine Assessment of Patient Index Data 3, and the Pain and Sleep Quality Questionnaire) were completed at baseline, throughout the course of the study, and at the 6-month follow-up.
There was a statistically significant effect of HBO2 therapy over time on the DAS28-Global Health (p = 0.01), the DAS28-C-reactive protein (p = 0.002), and the DAS28-erythrocyte sedimentation rate (p = 0.008) measures; these analyses excluded 2 patients who were in clinical remission at baseline. Selected post hoc comparisons showed significantly lower DAS28-Global Health, DAS28-C-reactive protein, and DAS28-erythrocyte sedimentation rate scores at 3 and 6 months relative to baseline. In addition, statistically significant decreases in pain as measured by the Routine Assessment of Patient Index Data 3 and Pain and Sleep Quality Questionnaire were observed at the end of HBO2 relative to baseline.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is effective for joint pain in patients with RA based on data from multiple, validated clinical measures. Further research with more subjects and the use of a control group is necessary.

We present a newly developed approach to secondary intraocular lens (IOL) implantation, which uses an artificial bag with optic capture (i.e., ABC technique) in patients with IOL dislocation.
This is a retrospective, noncomparative, and interventional case series which reveals the results of secondary IOL implantation using an artificial bag with optic capture in four cases of IOL dislocation. All patients underwent the above-mentioned surgery and were followed up for at least 6 months.
The best corrected visual acuity of patients ranged from 20/30 to 20/20. IOL of all patients showed no tilting or decentration with normal intraocular pressure.
We believe that this method produces satisfactory results and will be especially beneficial to retinal surgeons for the management of patients with IOL dislocation.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory and degenerative disorder of the central nervous system with significant immune participation. It can cause a variety of symptoms that may impact quality of life. This study investigates sexual dysfunction (SD) in patients with MS in Cyprus and compares it with a sample of the general population.
The sample includes 107 patients with MS and 104 healthy controls. Recruitment was based on simple random sampling during their follow-up at a neurology clinic. Data collection for this study was carried out from May to September 2019.
Among patients with MS, 29.9% experienced SD symptoms (40.0% men and 23.9% women), whereas in the healthy population, the percentage with SD was 12.5%. Although 10 women with MS expressed SD symptoms, they did not categorize themselves as having sexual problems. Almost 90% of all patients reported that they have never been tested for SD.
Patients with MS have a higher rate of SD than the healthy control population, especially for the female population. DN02 in vivo There is a growing need for clinical advice on the issue of SD.

A 22-year-old man was diagnosed as having schizophrenia last year in his first admission, with symptoms of auditory hallucinations, persecutory delusions, and associated social withdrawal. His positive symptoms did not improve despite being treated with risperidone, olanzapine, and paliperidone. Oral clozapine monotherapy was planned, and the daily dose was increased to provide a therapeutic plasma clozapine concentration and measured as effective (545 mg/dL). Aripiprazole long-acting injection 400 mg monthly was combined with the ongoing clozapine treatment for augmentation. One week after the third injection, a psychiatric examination revealed a significant improvement in the positive symptoms, and his caregivers confirmed an increase in the social interaction of the patient. Although we cannot postulate on a single exact mechanism for the increased efficacy of clozapine and aripiprazole combination, we may suggest that, at least for a subgroup of patients with schizophrenia who respond clinically to clozapine at a suboptimal level, combination with aripiprazole may be an effective therapeutic strategy.Sexual dysfunction is a common adverse effect in selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors users. We report a case of substantial improvement in sexual function with cariprazine at very low dosage.Trigeminal neuralgia is a pain condition that is frequently misdiagnosed and challenging to manage. We present the case of a patient with trigeminal neuralgia with multiple misdiagnoses and poorly managed pain. Despite the presence of trigger zones both inside and outside her mouth, complete symptom resolution was ultimately achieved through onabotulinumtoxinA injections, delivered solely intraorally.Although lithium is widely used as a first-line treatment for mood disorders, its mood-stabilizing effects remain not fully understood. A growing body of data are stressing that lithium seems to show broader properties, including neuroprotective effects. Lithium's ability to inhibit glycogen synthase kinase 3β, an enzyme that participates in the phosphorylation of τ, a microtubule-associated protein, stimulated interest in its possible therapeutic role in Alzheimer disease and other neurodegenerative disorders. Preliminary data also support exploration of lithium's potential therapeutic role in multiple sclerosis, an autoimmune disorder that is associated with co-occurring mood disorders. Lithium is associated with teratogenic risks to the developing fetus; however, recently revised downward estimates of its teratogenic risk of causing fetal cardiac malformation suggest that its potential therapeutic benefit to both mothers with bipolar disorder and their offspring should be considered in at least some cases.
