Cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury, the most common form of stroke, has high mortality and often brings persistent and serious brain dysfunction among survivors. Administration of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ASCs) has been suggested to alleviate the I/R brain injury, but the mechanism remains uncharacterized. Here, we aimed at investigating the mechanism of ASCs and their extracellular vesicles (EVs) in the repair of or protection from I/R injury.

We established the middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) model and oxygen-glucose deprivation/reperfusion (OGD/RP) neuron model. ASCs or ASC-derived EVs (ASC-EVs) were co-cultured with neurons. RT-qPCR and Western blot analyses determined microRNA (miRNA)-22-3p, BMP2, BMF, and KDM6B expression in neurons upon treatment with ASC-EVs. Bioinformatics analysis predicted the binding between miR-22-3p and KDM6B. Using gain- and loss-of-function methods, we tested the impact of these molecules on I/R injury in vivo and in vitro.

Treatment with Ahe BMP2/BMF axis. These findings compelling indicate a novel treatment strategy for cerebral ischemic injury.
An active play is designed to increase children's physical activity levels and fundamental movement skills through outdoor play and is well-suited to the needs of children with intellectual disabilities. However, no active play interventions have included children with intellectual disabilities. selleck This study aims to investigate the feasibility of a school-based active play intervention for children with intellectual disabilities.

Children aged 7-12 years who had intellectual disabilities and were independently ambulatory were eligible. This single-group 17-week intervention was implemented in two additional support needs schools. It consisted of a weekly 1-h active play session incorporating 30 min of structured games and 30 min of free play. Feasibility of recruitment/retention, adherence, and outcome measures were investigated. Outcome measures included school-based physical activity (ActiGraph GT3X+ accelerometer), fundamental movement skills (Test of Gross Motor Development-2), and social interactions (tool to measure social interactions was not feasible. The only significant increase post-intervention was for social interactions during structured play (pre-post mean difference -1.46, 95% CI -1.99, -0.93). Staff feedback was positive with the intervention well received by schools and potential benefits post-intervention identified by teachers.

The Go2Play Active Play intervention is feasible for children with intellectual disabilities. Future research should further investigate feasibility and implementation on a larger scale using a pilot cluster randomised controlled trial.

Recently, electronic cigarette (e-cig) usage has increased significantly, making it a potentially effective smoking cessation tool. In Muslim countries, most people who use e-cigarettes fast the month of Ramadan, which results in intermittent fasting. This study aims to reveal the severity of e-cig withdrawal symptoms among users during this intermittent fasting period.

A self-administered survey was developed and validated to solicit anonymous responses from e-cig users living in Jordan, through a cross-sectional study design. Participants were recruited through social media resources. Severity scores of physical (out of 11) and psychological (out of 8) withdrawal symptoms for each participant were assessed and calculated for each participant, depending on the symptoms reported.

A convenience sample (n = 523) of e-cig adult users were recruited. The majority of the participants were males (96.4%) aged between 18 and 40years (86.4%). Many participants replaced tobacco smoking with e-cig (53.5%) in orderinterventions would help clarify the effect of e-cigs and help determine alternative ways to cease smoking.
Nepal's poultry industry has increased with a growing middle class, which has translated to an increase in antimicrobial consumption and thus a rise in antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Describing and understanding antimicrobial use practices among commercial poultry producers in Nepal may help minimize the risks of AMR development in both humans and animals and determine the effectiveness of relevant policies.

From July to August 2018, poultry farmers were randomly recruited from Nepal's Chitwan District to participate in a cross-sectional study. The lead producer in each poultry operation was administered a quantitative structured-survey via a 30-min interview. Participants were asked to provide demographics, production practices, and knowledge about their antimicrobial use practices. Descriptive data analysis was performed to obtain frequencies and compare practices.

In total, 150 commercial poultry producers of whom raised between 300 and 40,000 birds completed the interviews. Only 33% (n = 49) of proacities, paired with increased veterinary resources and extensive monitoring in operations and retail meat products, may increase AMR awareness and policy enforcement.
Many Nepalese poultry producers lack overall antimicrobial use and AMR awareness, which is evidenced by low antimicrobial withdrawal period compliance, use of antimicrobials for growth promotion, and the sustained use of critically important antimicrobials. Improved outreach and educational capacities, paired with increased veterinary resources and extensive monitoring in operations and retail meat products, may increase AMR awareness and policy enforcement.
Belonging to the anopluran family Echinophthiriidae, Echinophthirius horridus, the seal louse, has been reported to parasitise a broad range of representatives of phocid seals. So far, only a few studies have focused on the vector function of echinophthiriid lice, and knowledge about their role in pathogen transmission is still scarce. The current study aims to investigate the possible vector role of E.horridus parasitising seals in the Dutch Wadden Sea.

E.horridus seal lice were collected from 54 harbour seals (Phoca vitulina) and one grey seal (Halichoerus grypus) during their rehabilitation period at the Sealcentre Pieterburen, The Netherlands. DNA was extracted from pooled seal lice of individual seals for molecular detection of the seal heartworm Acanthocheilonema spirocauda, the rickettsial intracellular bacterium Anaplasma phagocytophilum, and the cell wall-less bacteria Mycoplasmaspp. using PCR assays.

Seal lice from 35% of the harbour seals (19/54) and from the grey seal proved positive for A.spirocauda.
