86) and 5 × 30 mBest (r = -.92), respectively. The YYIR1 was moderately to largely associated with 5 × 30-m variables and 30 seconds, respectively. A nearly perfect association was observed between 5 × 30 mBest and 5 × 30 mMean (r = .97). Conclusions Elite female soccer players' sprint endurance variables are characterized by remarkable variability. Associations between sprint endurance variables suggest physiological interdependence and a likelihood of a general ability in sustaining sprinting in this population.Outdoor fitness equipment (OFE) is installed in parks to promote health, particularly among seniors. However, no quantitative study has investigated its effectiveness. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the effectiveness of 12 weeks of OFE training on functional fitness in seniors. Forty-two active seniors were recruited and randomly assigned into OFE and control groups. The OFE group underwent 12 weeks of training using popular OFE for cardiorespiratory function, flexibility, and strength, whereas participants in the control group were asked to maintain their previous lifestyles. The senior fitness test was assessed before and after the 12-week period. Unexpectedly, the results showed no significant improvement within or between the groups after the 12-week training in all parameters (p > .05). In conclusion, the 12-week OFE training failed to enhance functional fitness among active seniors. Potential reasons for the limited training effects might be lack of resistance components and diversity of the OFE design and installation. Objective To determine the optimal threshold, based on cadence and lifestyle counts per minute, to detect outdoor walking in mobility-limited older adults. Methods Older adults (N = 25, median age 77.0 years, interquartile range 10.5) wore activity monitors during 80 outdoor walks. Walking bouts were identified manually (reference standard) and compared with identification using cadence thresholds (≥30, ≥35, ≥40, ≥45, and ≥50 steps/min) and >760 counts per minute using low frequency extension analysis. selleck kinase inhibitor Results Median walking bout duration was 10.5 min (interquartile range 4.8) and median outdoor walking speed was 0.70 m/s (interquartile range 0.20). Cadence thresholds of ≥30, ≥35, and ≥40 steps/min demonstrated high sensitivity (1.0, 95% confidence intervals [0.95, 1.0]) to detect walking bouts; estimates for specificity and positive predictive value were highest for ≥40 steps/min. Conclusion A cadence threshold of ≥40 steps/min is recommended for detecting sustained outdoor walking in this population. Background The increasing global use of smartphones has contributed to the growing use of apps for various health conditions, showing promising results. Through mobile apps, it is possible to perform chronological and iconographic follow-up of wounds, such as pressure ulcers, using a simple and practical tool. However, numerous surveys have pointed out issues related to the functionality, design, safety, and veracity of app information. Objective The objective of this study was to perform a systematic review of published studies regarding mobile apps and a systematic survey in app stores looking for apps developed to identify, evaluate, treat, and/or prevent pressure ulcers in adults, and to evaluate those apps based on software quality characteristics. Methods This review followed Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. The main bibliographic databases were searched between January 1, 2007 and October 15, 2018, and an app survey was performed in app stores. The However, the evaluated studies provided important insights for future research. It is of utmost importance that future surveys develop apps jointly with users, using collaborative and cocreative processes and assess patients in real-world situations across different service settings, and they should consider different ethnicities, so that apps are useful to end users, such as patients, family members, health professionals, and students, in the health area. In addition, it is necessary for studies to describe the methodological course of app development in a clear and objective way in order to ensure reproducibility of the study and to offer inputs to allow future research to approach the development of ideal apps that are geared to positively impact the health of end users. AMPK is widely expressed in the kidney and involved in mitochondrial protection and biogenesis upon acute renal ischemia, AMPK activity being blunted in metabolic disease-associated kidney disease. Since little is known about AMPK in the regulation of renal blood flow, the present study aimed to assess the role of AMPK in renal vascular function. Functional responses to the selective AMPK activator A769662 were assessed in intrarenal small arteries isolated from the kidney of renal tumour patients and Wistar rats and mounted in microvascular myographs to perform simultaneous measurements of intracellular calcium [Ca2+]i and tension. Superoxide (O2.-) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) production were measured by chemiluminescence and fluorescence and protein expression by Western blot. Activation of AMPK with A769662 increased AMPKα phosphorylation at Thr-172 and induced potent relaxations compared to AICAR in isolated human and rat intrarenal arteries, through both endothelium-dependent mechanisms involving nitric oxide (NO) and intermediate-conductance calcium-activated potassium (IKCa) channels, as well as activation of ATP-sensitive (KATP) channels and sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca2+-ATPase (SERCA) in vascular smooth muscle (VSM). Furthermore, AMPK activator reduced NADPH oxidase 4 (Nox4) and Nox2-derived reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. These results demonstrate that A769662 has potent vasodilator and antioxidant effects in intrarenal arteries. The benefits of AMPK activation in rat kidney are reproduced in human arteries and therefore vascular AMPK activation might be a therapeutic target in the treatment of metabolic disease-associated kidney injury.Introduction Penile calciphylaxis is a rare disease whose diagnosis is not easy. It is associated with chronic renal failure. It is a result of media calcification and blood vessels' fibrosis such as penile arteries that eventually lead to gangrene formation in extremities and penis. Calcific uremic arteriolopathy is commonly associated with secondary hyperparathyroidism and high level of calcium and phosphate. Presentation of case In this paper, we report a case of penile necrosis induced by calciphylaxis associated with chronic renal failure and diabetic macroangiopathy. We performed a partial and total amputation in two stages because of the wound infection. The patient died one week after a total penectomy. Discussion The skin biopsy is the gold standard for the diagnosis despite being a risky process. In most cases, appropriate medical management is advocated. The treatment of this pathology is still controversial. Conclusion The management of this rare situation is controversial, and its diagnosis is still difficult due to the scarcity of reported cases.Introduction Metastatic intraluminal cancer arising from gastrointestinal tract cancer is very rare. In this report, we describe a case of an 82-year-old man with sequentially metastatic gastric and jejunal cancer originating from primary colon cancer. Presentation of case An 82-year-old Korean male patient with a history of right colon cancer was initially treated with extended right hemicolectomy. The tumour was classified as pT3N0M0 and stage II. After nine months, a gastroscopy revealed an infiltrating ulcerative mass in the cardia of the stomach, a colonoscopy revealed no specific findings in the previous operation site, and a positron emission tomography-computed tomography scan revealed no distant metastasis. The patient underwent radical total gastrectomy, and the final pathologic diagnosis was T3N2M0, stage IIIA. During follow-up without chemotherapy, a gastroscopy revealed tumours in the blind jejunal loop of Roux-en-Y anastomosis, and an endoscopic biopsy confirmed adenocarcinoma. The patient then underwent segmental resection of the blind loop jejunal cancer. Finally, further pathological examination of the resected specimen confirmed that the lesion represented a sequentially metastatic gastric and jejunal cancer originating from colon cancer. Discussion The exact mechanism of intraluminal metastasis of gastrointestinal tract cancer is not known. Immunohistochemical staining might prove useful in sequentially metastatic cases when a differential diagnosis must be assessed on consecutive biopsies. Conclusion Although intraluminal metastasis of gastrointestinal tract cancer is very rare, researchers should be aware of this uncommon intraluminal metastasis.Introduction Gossypiboma denotes a mass of cotton retained in the body following surgery. Migration of gossypiboma from initial site is a rare entity and could pose some diagnostic difficulties. Migration of gauze sponge has been reported to occur in several organs of the body. There have been few reported cases but the true incidence may be much higher due to under reporting for fear of litigation. Presentation of case We present an unusual case of a 58-year-old grand multiparous woman who had gauze retention for 5 years following a hysterectomy and presented with acute urinary symptoms. The gauze sponge transmigrated from the peritoneal cavity to the bladder and was partially extruded through the external urethral meatus. She had laparotomy for the removal of gauze sponge with good outcome. Discussion Retained foreign body especially surgical sponges (gossypiboma) infrequently occurs and can be a source of great concern to the surgeon and patient. Foreign bodies inside the body cavities and organs can presethral meatus following a hysterectomy is a rare occurrence and can present diagnostic difficulties. High index of suspicion, prompt diagnosis and management will help reduce the high morbidity that is associated with the condition as in the case reported. In this work, systematic density functional theory (DFT) calculations were performed to study the interactions of various metal ions (Al3+, Fe3+, Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, and Zn2+) and the clinically useful chelating agent called deferiprone (DFP) at the M05-2X/6-31G(d) level of theory. The thermodynamic parameters of metal-deferiprone complexes were determined in water. Based on the obtained data, the theoretical binding energy trend is as follows Al3+ > Fe3+ > Cu2+ > Ni2+ > Co2+ > Zn2+, confirming that [Al(DFP)3] has the most interaction energy. Moreover, Natural bond orbital analysis was employed to determine and analyze the natural charges on different atoms and charge transfer between the metal ions and ligands (oxygen atoms) as well as the interaction energy (E(2)) values. The calculated value of ƩE(2) (donor-acceptor interaction energy) for [Al(DFP)3] complex is higher than other complexes, which is according to energy analysis. To confirm the type of effective interactions and bonding properties in the water, the quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM) analysis was applied.
