Barriers can potentially be transformed into enablers through increased knowledge about attitudes and prerequisites.Aim In the present study boswellic acids-loaded chitosan nanoparticles were synthesized using ionic gelation technique. The influence of independent variables were studied and optimized on dependent variables using central composite design. this website Methodology & results The designed nanoparticles were observed spherical in shape with an average size of 67.5-187.2 nm and have also shown an excellent entrapment efficiency (80.06 ± 0.48). The cytotoxicity assay revealed enhanced cytotoxicity for drug-loaded nanoparticles in contrast to the free drug having an IC50 value of 17.29 and 29.59 μM, respectively. Flow cytometry confirmed that treatment of cells with 40 μg/ml had arrested 22.75 ± 0.3% at SubG0 phase of the cell cycle when compared with untreated A459 cells. The observed results justified the boswellic acids-loaded chitosan nanoparticles were effective due to greater cellular uptake, sustained intercellular drug retention and enhanced antiproliferative effect by inducing apoptosis. To better understand the processing of e-cigarette prevention messages, we conducted a content analysis of 1,968 participants' open-ended responses to one of four messages, which focused on industry manipulation (Big tobacco), financial and psychological cost of vaping (Can't afford), harmful chemicals in e-cigarettes (Formaldehyde), or uncertainty about the ingredients of e-liquids (Top secret). Health Belief Model (HBM) and perceived message effectiveness (PME) constructs were coded and the frequency of each variable was compared across message conditions. Among the HBM constructs, perceived health threat had the most mentions overall (38.8%). Self-efficacy of staying away from vaping had the fewest mentions across all messages (0.56%). For PME, participants more frequently mentioned message perceptions (15.75% positive message perceptions, 8.38% negative) than effect perceptions (3.46% positive effect perceptions, 1.37% negative). Big tobacco received the highest number of mentions for positive message perceptions and Formaldehyde received the highest number of mentions for positive effect perceptions. Future anti-vaping messages are recommended to address the efficacy element and to combine different themes to communicate harms of e-cigarettes.Contraception is a vital component of women's reproductive health, but not all women use it consistently and effectively. Many studies explore individual-level barriers to contraceptive use, yet interactional barriers are important to understand since contraception is primarily obtained through provider-patient interactions. link2 Thus, through interviews with 86 women and 51 providers in the United States, we employ a framework of biomedicalization to study how such interactions, including the knowledge bases that inform them, shape women's contraceptive decision-making. We find that when women's embodied knowledge and providers' biomedical knowledge differ, providers' preferences supersede women's. Providers, however, overlook this hierarchy, instead viewing their relationships with patients as empowering equal partnerships. This pattern precludes women from achieving their desired contraceptive method and highlights the process through which women's concerns become barriers to contraceptive use. Moreover, these findings reflect how provider-patient hierarchies continue to thrive despite purported patient-centered care models.Cardio-Oncology has blossomed as a new field in cardiovascular medicine, in large part due to new therapies, which may have cardiovascular sequelae. link3 Despite this, anthracyclines still serve as cornerstone therapy for most pediatric cancers, several solid tumors and hematological malignancies. Cardiotoxicity is the main limiting concern with anthracyclines, and this is particularly an issue in patients in extremes of age (both young and old patients). Pediatric hearts are susceptible for cardiotoxicity, while in older patients, concomitant risk factors may contribute to lower threshold for cardiotoxic effects. With increasing patient survival, a significant increase in elderly cancer patients and long-term cardiotoxicity effects of anthracyclines, a better mechanistic understanding of age-dependent processes-that define cardiotoxicity-is needed. This review sheds light on how age affects underlying molecular pathways of anthracycline-associated cardiotoxicity and aims to provide preventive strategies that can be used in clinical practice.
To explore the trends in actions and factors influencing families of children with hearing loss, regarding early treatment following the implementation of a newborn hearing screening (NHS) in Taiwan.

A retrospective study was conducted by extracting data from the treatment histories of families with children who had hearing loss and who were contacted and assessed by the non-profit organisation (NPO). Children born between 2012 and 2018 were included. The time lapse between initial NHS and early treatment sought by each family was documented and the factors predicting the timing of those actions were identified.

Data of 2095 families of children with hearing loss and who received treatment from an NPO for the annual birth cohort of 2012 through 2018 were included.

The median age at treatments initiation improved through the years. Parental educational level and the child's degree of hearing loss were significant indicators of the child's initial age at treatment intervention, age when hearing aids were fitted, and days taken to contact the organisation.

The NHS in Taiwan promoted earlier treatment for children with hearing loss. Furthermore, patient instructions and education may be important to enable parents to take actions for early intervention.

To describe the management and multimodal imaging of lattice corneal dystrophy type II (LCD-II) complicated by an infectious keratitis due to a bandage contact lens and to review current literature.

A 50-year-old female was diagnosed with Meretoja's Syndrome by the triad of facial palsy, loose skin (cutix laxa), and stromal corneal dystrophy. At slit lamp, bilateral lattice corneal dystrophy (LCD) was characterized by multiple linear refractile lines and subepithelial fibrosis along with Neurotrophic keratitis Mackie grade I. Findings of anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) were epithelial irregularity, subepithelial fibrosis, hyperreflectivity on anterior stromal layer, lobulated stromal surface. In vivo confocal microscopy (IVCM) showed hyperreflected deposits on the basal and Bowman layers, visible keratocytes; fine lines and streaks between corneal lamella. The sub-basal nerve plexus and the stromal nerves were no longer visible. She presented in emergency with a left red eye. A sevet corneal erosion. The use of bandage contact lens should be avoided in Meretoja's syndrome to prevent a possible infectious keratitis. It is estimated that 5.4 million Americans have some form of dementia and these numbers are expected to rise in the coming decades, leading to an unprecedented demand for memory care housing and services. At the same time, infectious disease outbreaks like the COVID-19 pandemic have raised great concerns for the future of care settings for people living with dementia. In searching for innovative options to create more autonomy and better quality of life in dementia care settings, while at the same time improving infectious disease control, repurposing existing structures, in particular vacant urban malls, may be one option for the large sites needed for the European model of dementia villages. This editorial paper makes the case for the Dementia Friendly City Center model for centralized dementia programs, medical services and housing. By working across multiple disciplines, this research team has simultaneously addressed numerous issues, including community revitalization, building sustainability, and the strengthening of infectious disease control in care sites which are inclusive, progressive and convergent with the needs of an aging population.Since the initiation of national healthcare reform in 2009, China's hospital market has witnessed significant change. To provide a brief description about its evolving process, China Health Statistical Yearbook data and Sichuan administrative data from 2009 to 2017 were used in this article. An overall upward trend of hospital delivery capacity was found in this study, which increased from 3.12 million beds and 1.09 million doctors in 2009 to 6.12 million and 1.80 million in 2017, respectively, while the primary healthcare institutions presented fairly slow development pace. Growing proportion of medical resources and patients gathered in hospitals, especially tertiary hospitals. While private hospitals demonstrated an increasingly important role in hospital market with growing share of capacity and service, their average capacity, especially the human resource, was found to be much lower than that of public hospitals and the gaps are still widening. The competition among hospitals grouped by homogeneous ownership types has predominated the increasingly intensified hospital market competition in China. In order to adapt to the raising demand of health care in China, it is highly recommended that strategies forged at governmental levels be focused on primary care promotion, guiding the development of private hospitals as well as on promoting orderly competition in the hospital market.Long-term control of the COVID-19 pandemic hinges in part on the development and uptake of a preventive vaccine. In addition to a segment of population that refuses vaccines, the novelty of the disease and concerns over safety and efficacy of the vaccine have a sizable proportion of the U.S. indicating reluctance to getting vaccinated against COVID-19. Among various efforts to address vaccine hesitancy and foster vaccine confidence, evidence-based communication strategies are critical. There are opportunities to consider the role of emotion in communication efforts. In this commentary, we highlight several ways negative as well as positive emotions may be considered and leveraged. Examples include attending to negative emotions such as fear and anxiety, raising awareness of emotional manipulations by anti-vaccine disinformation efforts, and activating positive emotions such as altruism and hope as part of vaccine education endeavors.Research shows child welfare cases involving caregiver domestic violence (DV) continue to produce punitive consequences for non-abusive adult victims. This occurs despite the adoption of a supportive policy framework that emphasizes perpetrator responsibility for DV-related harm to children. Risk assessment procedures have been implicated in punitive outcomes, but we know little about how they shape child welfare workers' decision-making practice. Focusing on a state with a supportive policy framework, this paper uses grounded theory to examine how policy contradictions, procedural directives around risk assessment, and informal interventions produce punitive consequences for adult victims of DV and unmitigated risk to children. Data include state policy and procedural documents and interviews with child welfare workers describing decision-making in their most recent completed case and most recent case involving DV. Findings point to the need for active alignment of policies and procedures, greater integration of knowledge across practice areas, renewed commitments to differential response, and greater inclusion of DV specialists in child welfare settings.
